CIE India Q1 CY2026: Record Consolidated Quarter, Margin Recovery in Europe
Ask Iris
CIE Automotive India delivered a strong Q1 CY2026, with consolidated sales of INR 25,411 million and EBITDA of INR 4,303 million. Both grew 16 percent year on year, and the consolidated EBITDA margin held steady at 16.9 percent. Management stated that the company recorded its highest ever absolute quarterly consolidated sales and consolidated EBITDA.
The quarter combined two stories. India continued to grow broadly in line with the domestic market, while Europe saw a sharp improvement in profitability after restructuring actions taken in CY2025. At the same time, management repeatedly highlighted uncertainty from geopolitical tensions, especially through energy and metal price volatility and the risk of supply chain disruptions.
India: Growth in line with market, margin impacted by costs and one-offs
India operations reported sales of INR 16,190 million, up 15 percent versus Q1 CY2025. EBITDA was INR 2,854 million, up 9 percent, with an EBITDA margin of 17.6 percent. Management said the year on year margin decline versus 18.6 percent in Q1 CY2025 was driven by three factors: higher gas and material costs linked to the Iran geopolitical situation, an energy tariff increase in Maharashtra, and a one-off benefit in Q1 CY2025 of INR 87 million from a subsidy at the Zaheerabad stamping unit.
On a sequential basis, India margin improved versus Q4 CY2025, which management attributed to internal initiatives to reduce the impact of input cost increases.
Europe: FX-driven INR growth, restructuring benefits visible in margins
Europe operations reported sales of INR 9,221 million, up 17 percent year on year. Management clarified that the growth was attributable to a favourable exchange rate, while euro-denominated sales were flat and aligned with market conditions.
Profitability improved meaningfully. Europe EBITDA rose to INR 1,449 million, and EBITDA margin increased to 15.7 percent versus 13.9 percent in Q1 CY2025 and 12.7 percent in Q4 CY2025. Management attributed this to restructuring activities implemented in CY2025, and said the current quarter reflects the post-restructuring run-rate without restructuring costs.
Financial snapshot
What management focused on: orders, capex, and managing inflation
A key theme on the call was order momentum and capacity creation in India. The CEO said Q1 CY2026 new order allocation was strong, citing around INR 3.5 billion of annual turnover run-rate new orders, with approximately 11 percent linked to the EV sector.
Management also discussed a step-up in India capex to support demand and new projects. They said India investments in the quarter were a little over INR 900 million, and indicated India capex for CY2026 could be around INR 4 billion to INR 5 billion. Capacity additions cited included at least three new forging lines, a metal stamping line, and an iron casting molding line.
Input cost inflation was discussed with specific reference to aluminum prices and energy. Management said commodity costs are generally pass-through, but acknowledged timing lags can temporarily affect margins. They also indicated that higher pass-through can dilute percentage margins because turnover rises while absolute EBITDA may remain similar.
Corporate actions and simplification
In the SEBI notes, the board approved a restructuring proposal involving the merger of CIE Aluminium Casting India Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary, with and into the company, subject to regulatory approvals. Management also confirmed this intent on the call.
The board had earlier recommended a final dividend of INR 7 per equity share for the year ended 31 December 2025.
Takeaways
CIE India’s Q1 CY2026 reflects strong consolidated execution. India delivered healthy growth but faced cost pressures and a tough base effect due to a prior-year subsidy. Europe margins improved sharply as restructuring actions began to show up in reported performance.
Management’s near-term focus is on ramping new orders, expanding capacity in India, and navigating energy and metal price volatility. While the market tone was optimistic, the company also acknowledged risks from geopolitics, inflation and supply chain disruptions, suggesting that execution and cost management will remain central themes through CY2026.
