ENIL Navigates Q3 FY26 with Digital Surge Amidst Ad Market Headwinds
Entertainment Network (India) Limited (ENIL) has released its Q3 FY26 performance, revealing a quarter marked by strategic shifts and contrasting fortunes across its business segments. While the traditional advertising market continued to pose challenges, the company's digital and intellectual property (IP) ventures demonstrated robust growth, signaling a clear pivot towards new revenue streams. The consolidated total income for the quarter stood at 164.96 crore, reflecting a modest 3.8% year-on-year growth. However, this growth was overshadowed by a significant 49.6% decline in consolidated EBITDA, which came in at 15.35 crore, leading to a consolidated PBT of (11.87) crore and a PAT of (6.31) crore.
The domestic revenue, aligning closely with standalone figures, grew by 4.0% year-on-year to 159.8 crore. This performance was primarily driven by the momentum in ENIL's non-FCT (non-traditional ad revenue) business and the digital segment. The existing business, which encompasses traditional radio and related solutions, contributed 129.1 crore, while the digital platform added 30.8 crore. The international business segment reported a revenue of 5.38 crore. Notably, the digital platform's revenue nearly doubled, soaring by 99.9% year-on-year, underscoring its rapid expansion and increasing contribution to the overall revenue mix.
Digital and IP: The Growth Engines
ENIL's strategic focus on digital assets and intellectual properties is clearly paying off. The digital platform, including the Gaana app, saw its revenue reach 30.8 crore, contributing significantly to the company's top line. Management highlighted that Gaana's revenue alone was approximately 20.8 crore for the quarter. The IP business also demonstrated strong growth, with revenues climbing to 35.35 crore. These segments are now individually contributing approximately 50% of the core radio business, indicating a successful diversification strategy.
To further bolster its digital offerings, ENIL has rolled out several enhancements for the Gaana app. These include 'Top Charts,' India's first user-driven artist and song rankings based on weekly stream volume, a faster and more personalized playlist creation flow, and 'Collaborative Playlists' that allow users to invite friends to co-manage song lists. The 'Coming Soon' feature ensures users never miss new releases by setting reminders and automatically adding the content to their library. These product innovations are designed to enhance user engagement and drive subscriber growth.
Navigating the Traditional Landscape
While digital and IP segments thrive, the traditional radio business continues to face a challenging advertising environment. The ad market remains under stress, with advertising activity being weak, partly due to a strong base in the previous year and a shift in the festive season. Radio ad rates are still estimated to be 25-30% below pre-COVID levels, and volume growth has remained largely flat. Despite these headwinds, ENIL maintains its position as a market leader in the radio industry, holding a robust 25% volume share and consistently outperforming its peers.
ENIL's non-FCT business, which includes events and solutions, has shown strong growth, helping to offset some of the pressures on traditional ad revenue. The company executed several high-impact events and campaigns during the quarter, such as the Mumbai Station Inauguration by the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, the SBI Green Marathon across 17 cities, and the SBI Life - Spell Bee S15, a nationwide hunt for India's best spellers. These initiatives not only generated significant PR and digital reach but also fostered community engagement and strengthened brand recall.
Strategic Outlook and Management Commentary
Management is focused on driving profitable growth and long-term value creation. A key objective is to achieve breakeven for Gaana within the next few quarters. Following the completion of UI/UX investments, the nature of marketing spend for Gaana in FY27 is expected to shift more towards subscriber growth. ENIL also plans to expand Gaana's international presence, particularly targeting the highly profitable U.S. and North American markets, leveraging the South Asian diaspora.
The company's robust balance sheet, with a cash balance of 372.5 crore as of December 31, 2025, provides a strong foundation to support its growth initiatives. While acknowledging the muted subscriber growth in Q3 due to competitive pressures and a generally muted economy, management remains committed to its disciplined approach, balancing growth with cost efficiency. The overall strategy emphasizes a diversified portfolio, rapid digital scale-up, and continuous investment in content and user experience to reinforce its growth trajectory.
ENIL's Q3 FY26 performance underscores a company in transition, successfully leveraging its digital and IP strengths to counteract challenges in traditional media. The strategic focus on product innovation, market expansion, and disciplined investment positions ENIL for sustained growth in the evolving entertainment landscape.
