Financial Highlights: A Snapshot
Strategic Expansion and Brand Power
Ethos's growth narrative is strongly anchored in its expansion strategy. The company successfully increased its retail footprint from 73 boutiques as of March 31, 2025, to 89 boutiques currently. This expansion includes a strategic entry into Ranchi, Jharkhand, extending its presence to 27 cities across 19 states, thereby solidifying its nationwide reach. This aggressive store rollout strategy is focused on high-quality, premium locations designed to enhance brand visibility and improve store-level productivity.
The company's curated luxury brand portfolio, comprising over 80 brands with 49 exclusive offerings, continues to be a significant strength. The lifestyle vertical, in particular, demonstrated strong performance, reinforcing Ethos's positioning as a destination for global luxury. This was further bolstered by the successful onboarding of Messika and the continued scale-up of Rimowa. During 9MFY26, Ethos also added four new exclusive brands—Fabergé, D1 Milano, Unimatic, and FPM Milano—further diversifying its premium lifestyle offerings and leveraging its existing customer base.
Navigating Headwinds and Operational Adjustments
Despite the robust top-line growth, Ethos faced certain challenges that impacted its margins. Foreign exchange volatility, particularly the appreciation of the Swiss Franc against the Indian Rupee, was a key external headwind. The INR depreciated by approximately 19.0% over twelve months, with a cumulative depreciation of about 25.1% by January 31, 2026. This led to an estimated adverse forex-related gross margin impact of Rs 14.3 crore, comprising Rs 3.8 crore from creditor restatement and Rs 10.5 crore from notional exchange losses and higher cost of goods sold. Management adopted a calibrated approach, partially passing on higher costs via pricing to protect long-term brand equity and customer relationships, which consequently impacted margins.
Furthermore, the Government's notification of the Labour Code, effective November 21, 2025, necessitated a restatement of gratuity, resulting in a one-time impact of approximately Rs 1.8 crore recognized in Q3 and 9M FY26. It is also noteworthy that 17 new boutiques opened between April and December 2025 are still in their nascent stages of revenue generation, which temporarily impacts overall profitability as they scale up operations.
Outlook and Future Focus
Ethos Limited remains steadfast in its strategic objectives. The management is committed to accelerating its store rollout strategy, prioritizing high-quality, premium locations to maximize brand visibility and store-level productivity. Concurrently, there is a strong emphasis on attracting, developing, and retaining high-quality talent, recognizing that human capital is pivotal to executing the company's growth strategy in the dynamic retail landscape. The company's ability to expand its network, diversify its brand portfolio, and manage operational challenges positions it well to capitalize on the growing luxury market in India, ensuring sustained long-term value creation for its stakeholders.
