Galaxy Surfactants Navigates Headwinds with Strategic Resilience in Q3 FY26
Ask Iris
Galaxy Surfactants Limited, a prominent player in the specialty chemicals sector, has demonstrated strategic resilience in its third quarter and nine-month performance for the financial year 2025-26. Despite facing multiple market headwinds, the company reported a robust consolidated revenue of ₹1,334.3 crore for Q3 FY26, marking a 27.6% year-on-year growth. For the nine-month period, total revenue reached ₹3,955.4 crore, an increase of 27.7% over the previous year. This performance underscores the company's agility and strategic positioning amidst a dynamic global economic landscape.
The quarter's performance was characterized by a flat consolidated volume year-on-year, with significant shifts between its core segments. The Performance Surfactants segment experienced a high single-digit decline, primarily due to reformulation pressures from a key Tier 1 account in India, driven by persistently high feedstock prices. This challenge was, however, effectively cushioned by the stellar performance of the Specialty Care Products segment, which delivered a robust 35% year-on-year volume growth in India and strong high single-digit growth overall. This segment's resilience, coupled with strong traction from non-Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3, and direct-to-consumer (D2C) customers, helped mitigate the impact of Tier 1 softness and reinstated momentum across various customer tiers.
Profitability also saw a healthy uplift, with Q3 FY26 EBITDA increasing by 13.3% year-on-year to ₹124.2 crore. Consequently, EBITDA per metric ton improved to ₹20,156/MT, up from ₹17,527/MT in Q3 FY25, reflecting a favorable product mix and disciplined cost management. This improvement was further supported by lower logistics costs and the successful execution of multiple cost efficiency initiatives across the group. The company also recognized exceptional items of ₹11.9 crore related to the new labor code for gratuity and leave encashment, which are one-time adjustments.
Regional Performance and Strategic Initiatives
Regionally, the AMET (Africa, Middle East, and Turkey) market conditions remained challenging, with the region recording a double-digit year-on-year decline in high teens. This was primarily driven by market share losses in key Tier 1 accounts and heightened competitive intensity from backward-integrated and local players. However, management anticipates a recovery in volume traction from Q4 FY26 onwards. In contrast, the Rest of the World (ROW) region continued to support portfolio resilience, delivering mid-single digit year-on-year volume growth, led by healthy demand across Latin America and Europe in both Performance and Specialty segments. This performance partially offset the tariff-induced softness linked to North American specialty exports from India, highlighting the success of Galaxy's geographic diversification strategy.
A significant positive development for Galaxy Surfactants is the recent bilateral update between India and the United States, which has led to a reduction in the reciprocal tariff on Indian exports from 50% to 18%. This tariff normalization is expected to restore competitiveness, create a more level playing field in the U.S. market, and strategically strengthen Galaxy's long-term position in North America. Management expects this to rebuild traction in the near term, accelerate penetration in high-value specialty opportunities, and unlock new avenues for growth, with effects reflecting from late Q4 FY26 and early Q1 next year.
Innovation and Outlook
Innovation remains a core focus for Galaxy Surfactants. In line with its Strategy 2030, the company launched five new second-generation products in the GalSORB and SunBliss ranges for sun care and leave-on segments in November. These molecules are designed to offer high photostability, broad-spectrum UV protection, and improved sensory performance, with commercialization expected from Q4 FY26. The TRI-K subsidiary, specializing in high-end prestige products, also delivered a strong performance, further enhancing the group's EBITDA profile.
On the cost and supply side, while freight offered some relief, operational frictions like port congestion persisted. Fatty alcohol prices, though briefly softening, remained buoyant, keeping reformulation risk elevated. However, Galaxy maintains a robust risk management framework to mitigate the impact of raw material price fluctuations. Looking ahead, management expressed confidence in regaining growth momentum, driven by an improving India growth story, gradual AMET volume recovery, incremental profitability from the U.S.-India tariff revision, and continued premiumization of the Specialty portfolio. The company maintains its long-term volume growth guidance of 6% to 8%, acknowledging the current market flux but remaining optimistic about future quarters.
