Indian Terrain Fashions FY26: A channel mix reset delivers a profitability turnaround
Indian Terrain Fashions ended FY26 with a clear message: the year was about execution, stabilisation, and recovery. The company reported revenue from operations of 377.67 crore in FY26 versus 340.60 crore in FY25, and Q4 revenue of 106.53 crore versus 89.53 crore a year ago. The headline change, however, was profitability. FY26 gross margin expanded to 42.18 percent from 37.76 percent, and EBITDA swung to 36.43 crore with a 9.65 percent margin versus a negative EBITDA in FY25. Profit before tax also turned positive at 2.71 crore for the year, compared to a loss of 41.01 crore in FY25.
In Q4, the operating improvement was visible again. Gross margin rose to 44.44 percent from 43.29 percent, and EBITDA margin improved to 11.28 percent from 5.16 percent. The company also reported a Q4 PBT of 3.54 crore compared with a loss of 3.84 crore in Q4 FY25. Management attributed the improvement to better gross margins, cost rationalisation, inventory optimisation, and operational efficiencies. It also emphasised that, over the last two years, the company has shifted focus from chasing scale to building a healthier and more sustainable business.
The channel story: MBO rises as EBO moderates
A notable feature of FY26 was the continuing shift in channel mix. The company’s net sales tables show that Multi Brand Outlets became the strongest growth driver, while Exclusive Brand Outlets declined year on year.
For FY26, MBO net sales rose to 112.38 crore from 60.34 crore in FY25. In Q4, MBO net sales increased to 46.34 crore from 28.72 crore. The presentation describes MBO as a scalable, asset-light growth engine and highlights deeper distribution penetration and improved retail partner productivity.
EBO, by contrast, declined in FY26 to 129.82 crore from 149.02 crore in FY25. Large Format Outlets also softened, with FY26 LFO net sales at 50.69 crore versus 54.37 crore. The channel mix slides reinforce the intent behind this. The company states that dependence on the EBO channel is being gradually reduced, supported by a meaningful expansion in MBO contribution. This reflects a strategic tilt toward distribution-led growth, which can be more scalable if managed with the right inventory and receivables discipline.
Online grew as well, with FY26 online net sales at 30.07 crore versus 26.22 crore. Q4 online sales were 3.13 crore compared with 0.46 crore a year ago. The company attributes the Q4 spike to improved digital traction and notes an expansion of the outright model business with Flipkart from a conventional sale-or-return model.
Product mix stays anchored in shirts, with meaningful breadth
The category split shows the business remains anchored in shirts, which contributed 47 percent of FY26 revenue and 48 percent in Q4. Trousers contributed 24 percent for the year and 26 percent in Q4, while T-shirts remained steady at 19 percent for both periods. Denim contributed 6 percent for FY26 and 4 percent in Q4, indicating higher full-year traction than the quarter-end snapshot.
The company positions this as consistent with its smart-casual identity, while also pointing to a broader architecture of sub-labels. The refreshed architecture includes Indian Terrain for smart casual, Terrain Jeans for youth casuals, Constructed for premium occasion wear, and Terrathlete for everyday lifestyle. While the presentation does not quantify revenue by sub-label, it links category traction to ongoing efforts in assortment planning and product positioning.
Working capital and store network: progress, but still a constraint
Operational discipline is a recurring theme in the presentation, and the working capital slide provides the clearest evidence. Net working capital days improved to 237 in Mar-26 from 266 in Mar-25, while gross working capital days reduced to 311 from 329. Inventory days improved to 72 from 76, and receivables days improved to 239 from 254. The company attributes this to continuous monitoring, structured credit policies, and tighter governance.
Even with the improvement, the absolute level of receivables remains high. With receivables at 239 days as of Mar-26, the cash cycle remains extended, which can cap the pace of growth or increase reliance on working capital funding. Investors tracking sustainability of the turnaround will likely watch whether receivables can reduce further while maintaining the MBO-led expansion.
On the store front, the company’s exclusive store base reduced to 181 as of 31 March 2026 from 208 a year ago. This is consistent with its stated store optimisation and focus on channel quality. The presentation details store formats across COCO, COFO, FOFO and EFO, and highlights that markdown management and inventory remain with the company across formats.
Alongside optimisation, the company also outlines “new concept stores” aimed at experience-led retail. These include immersive brand storytelling, elevated visual merchandising, personal styling and fit stations, and digital touchpoints. The initiative is described as a way to improve customer engagement and conversion rather than a pure footprint expansion play.
Outlook: qualitative, but anchored in execution priorities
Management’s outlook remains cautious but constructive. It reiterates focus on sustainable and profitable growth through improved channel productivity and sharper merchandise planning. It also expects continued emphasis on MBO, franchise-led formats, and omni-channel presence to support scalable growth and improve revenue quality.
The company highlights ongoing initiatives in inventory optimisation, working capital management, and cost efficiencies to strengthen margins and cash flows. It also points to product innovation and brand-building to improve demand momentum, while recognising the competitive landscape, faster fashion cycles, and pricing pressure as industry realities.
The FY26 results suggest that Indian Terrain’s reset is beginning to reflect in margins and operating metrics, with MBO emerging as the core growth engine. The key test from here will be whether the company can sustain the profitability gains while further improving working capital efficiency, especially in receivables, as distribution-led growth continues.
