JK Lakshmi Cement: Navigating Q3 FY26 with Strategic Growth and Financial Discipline
Ask Iris
JK Lakshmi Cement Ltd. (JKLC), a prominent player in the Indian cement industry, has announced its operational and financial performance for the third quarter of Financial Year 2026. The company reported a robust increase in sales volume and revenue, demonstrating resilience amidst a dynamic market landscape. Net sales for Q3 FY26 stood at Rs. 1,588.40 crores, marking a 6% year-on-year growth. The Profit After Tax (PAT) for the quarter was Rs. 58.12 crores.
The quarter saw JKLC achieve a sales volume of 32.81 lakh tonnes, an impressive 8% increase year-on-year and a 15% quarter-on-quarter surge. This growth was significantly influenced by the commissioning of the Surat grinding station in September 2025, which contributed to increased non-trade sales, particularly in Gujarat. While this helped in ramping up volumes, the overall sales realization per tonne experienced a 9% quarter-on-quarter decline to Rs. 4,430, primarily due to a sharper drop in non-trade prices post-GST reduction and market sluggishness.
Strategic Shifts and Market Realities
Management highlighted that the increased dependence on non-trade sales, especially from the newly commissioned Surat plant, was a strategic move to push volumes in a period of market confusion and labor scarcity. The non-cement business, including Ready Mix Concrete (RMC) and AAC blocks, contributed Rs. 147 crores to the revenue, with RMC at Rs. 67 crores and AAC blocks at Rs. 56 crores. While these segments currently operate at lower EBITDA margins, the company is focused on improving their productivity and expanding their footprint, expecting higher single-digit margins within two years.
The company's footprint, concentrated in parts of North (Rajasthan, Haryana, West UP), West (Gujarat, Mumbai), and East (Chhattisgarh, Odisha), makes it susceptible to regional price volatilities. However, management anticipates an improvement in pricing across both trade and non-trade segments in the coming quarters, driven by improved demand and rising fuel costs.
Cost Management and Financial Health
JKLC has demonstrated strong financial discipline, evident in its improved debt metrics. The Net Debt to EBIDTA ratio significantly decreased to 1.29 in Q3 FY26 from 2.41 in Q3 FY25, and Net Debt to Equity improved to 0.36 from 0.53. This reflects a healthy balance sheet and prudent capital management. The company's fuel cost remained stable at approximately Rs. 1.56 per K.Cal, and efforts to enhance productivity have also led to optimized employee costs.
Future Outlook and Strategic Initiatives
Looking ahead, JKLC has ambitious growth plans. The company is expanding its clinker capacity at Durg by adding a 2.3 MTPA line and four cement grinding units (4.6 MTPA), along with three split location grinding units (3.4 MTPA) in Prayagraj, Madhubani, and Patratu. This Rs. 3,000 crore project is slated for completion by March 2028. The total CAPEX for FY26 is projected at Rs. 650 crores, with Rs. 1,600-1,700 crores planned for FY27. The company aims to reach a total cement capacity of 30 Million Tonnes by 2030.
JKLC is also committed to sustainability, with its share of renewable power in the power mix reaching 48% for the quarter. Green initiatives, such as enhancing the Total Solids Recovery (TSR) from 4% to 16% at its Sirohi Cement Plant, are underway. The company expects double-digit volume growth in Q4 FY26, aligning with the positive industry outlook of 6% volume growth for FY26, driven by infrastructure and housing demand.
Despite some challenges like the stalled conveyor belt project due to land issues and the cancellation of mining rights for a subsidiary (Agrani Cement Pvt. Ltd.), which is being legally challenged, JKLC maintains a confident and transparent stance. The company's focus on strategic capacity expansion, cost optimization, and financial prudence positions it for sustained growth in the evolving Indian cement market.
