Ask Iris
Karur Vysya Bank Limited has reported a robust performance for the third quarter of the financial year 2025-26, demonstrating sustained growth and disciplined execution amidst a competitive banking landscape. The bank's total business reached an impressive INR 2,11,647 crore as of December 31, 2025, reflecting a significant 16% year-on-year (YoY) increase and a 4% quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) growth. This strong momentum was primarily driven by healthy advances growth of 17% YoY to INR 97,052 crore and a 16% YoY increase in deposits to INR 1,14,595 crore. The bank's Net Interest Margin (NIM) expanded to 3.99% for the quarter, exceeding its own guidance, a testament to its effective management of funding costs and asset yields. The Net Profit for the quarter stood at INR 690 crore, marking a substantial 39% YoY growth.
Strategic Growth and Asset Quality
The bank's growth strategy has been well-balanced, with RAM (Retail, Agriculture, MSME) verticals constituting 86% of the business and corporate banking making up the remaining 14%. Retail advances, in particular, saw a 6% QoQ growth, largely fueled by jewel loans and mortgage loans. The collaboration between the branch and open market channels led to a 14% increase in mortgage loan volumes during the quarter. Despite heightened competition and low yields, the bank proactively mellowed down its focus on housing and vehicle loans, prioritizing higher-margin opportunities and maintaining asset quality. The commercial business segment also recorded a 3% QoQ growth, with disbursements increasing by 21% YoY, particularly enhancing the MSME portfolio.
Karur Vysya Bank has maintained a strong focus on asset quality, which is evident in its declining Gross Non-Performing Assets (GNPA) and stable Net Non-Performing Assets (NNPA). GNPA improved to 0.71% from 0.76% in the previous quarter, while NNPA remained steady at 0.19%. The bank's management expressed confidence in maintaining the slippage ratio below 1%. This robust asset quality is supported by a significant provision coverage ratio of 96.56%. The proportion of standard restructured loan portfolio further decreased to 0.45% of total loans, performing satisfactorily.
Operational Efficiency and Digital Transformation
Operational efficiency remains a key focus for Karur Vysya Bank. The cost-to-income ratio for the nine-month period ended December 31, 2025, stood at 43.98%, well within the guided range of less than 50%. The bank's capital adequacy remains healthy, with a CRAR Basel III of 16.05%, providing ample headroom for future growth. Liquidity is also robust, with the Liquidity Coverage Ratio (LCR) well above the regulatory requirement of 100%.
Digital transformation is a core pillar of KVB's strategy. The bank is continuously enhancing its digital ecosystem through various initiatives. The DLite mobile banking app boasts 7 million total downloads, 2.3 million monthly average transactions, and 1.3 million monthly active users. Key features include Instant Video KYC, seamless login, and a single pay button. The KVB Corp Mobile Banking app, specifically designed for corporate customers, offers features like account activities, loan services, payments, deposits, tax payments, and profile management. These digital efforts are yielding results, with 96% of transactions served digitally and a 17% YoY growth in digital transactions.
Outlook and Management Confidence
Management remains cautiously optimistic, guiding for a full-year NIM in the range of 3.9% to 3.95%, ROA above 1.85%, and credit growth exceeding 2% of the industry average. They also anticipate maintaining gross and net NPAs below 1.5% and 1% respectively, with slippages less than 1% of the book. The bank's proactive approach to managing margin pressures, diligently monitoring asset quality, and strategic focus on digital and MSME segments underscore its commitment to sustainable growth.
Karur Vysya Bank's Q3 FY26 performance reflects a well-executed strategy focused on profitable growth, robust asset quality, and digital innovation. The bank's ability to expand margins while keeping asset quality in check, coupled with its strategic initiatives, positions it favorably for continued success in the evolving Indian banking sector.
