S Chand Navigates Q3 FY26 with Strategic Acquisitions and Digital Momentum
Ask Iris
S Chand And Company Limited, a prominent player in India's education content sector, has unveiled its performance for the third quarter of fiscal year 2026 (Q3 FY26) and the nine months ended December 31, 2025. The company reported consolidated revenues of INR 99 crore for Q3 FY26, alongside a PAT loss of INR 28.7 crore. This quarter's financial outcome reflects a period of strategic investment and operational adjustments, with management attributing the PAT loss primarily to increased operating expenses, including wage hikes, new hirings, and heightened sales and marketing efforts, particularly in anticipation of the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) adoption.
For the nine-month period (9MFY26), S Chand recorded consolidated revenues from operations of INR 250.9 crore. While gross margins saw a moderation compared to 9MFY25, largely due to a shift towards a higher share of third-party content in AI Dataset licensing revenues, the company emphasized that volumes in this segment have grown exponentially. This strategic shift, though impacting immediate margins, is aimed at long-term growth and diversification of revenue streams. The management remains confident that the revenue gap experienced in Q3, partly due to a large segment's revenue shifting to Q4 because of syllabus revisions, will be covered as specific new series are launched in February.
Strategic Expansion and Digital Prowess
A significant highlight of the quarter was S Chand's first international acquisition of CPD Singapore in January 2026. This strategic move is poised to fill a critical gap in the company's K-12 offerings, providing International Curriculum capabilities for the rapidly expanding markets in India and Asia. CPD Singapore, a publisher of supplementary books for the Singapore, IGCSE, and IB curricula, positions S Chand to tap into a segment with over 1,000 schools in India and thousands more globally. The company plans to leverage its extensive 4,000-strong dealer network to maximize the potential of this acquisition, fostering growth in South Asia and SAARC markets.
In the digital realm, S Chand's initiatives, SmartK and TestCoach, continue to show promising traction. TestCoach, specifically designed for CUET (Common University Entrance Test), has seen increased adoptions and enrolments, building on its launch last year. The management views these digital platforms as long-term investments, aiming to solve genuine educational problems and scale over a 4-5 year horizon. The CUET market, with approximately 1.5 million students and a lack of clear leadership, presents a substantial opportunity for S Chand to establish itself.
Financial Discipline and Future Outlook
S Chand has demonstrated strong financial discipline, particularly in working capital management. The company achieved its lowest Q3 Inventory days in history, standing at 316 days, a notable improvement from 366 days in 3QFY25. Similarly, Q3 Net Working Capital days reduced to 143 days from 152 days in 3QFY25. This focus on efficiency has contributed to a year-on-year net debt reduction of INR 18 crore, with the company largely remaining debt-free for three quarters.
Looking ahead, S Chand's management has articulated clear guidance for FY26. They aim to achieve operating revenues exceeding INR 800 crore and target an EBITDA margin in the range of 18-20%. The company anticipates that FY26 and FY27 will witness the maximum adoption of new syllabus books under the NCF, which is expected to significantly boost growth in the CBSE/ICSE market. While the syllabus changes were delayed, extending from an anticipated 2-3 years to 4-5 years, the full implementation across schools in the next two years is expected to provide a substantial uplift to the business. The traditional publishing business is projected to maintain a normalized growth rate of 8-10%, with additional growth potential from acquisitions and the burgeoning AI segment.
Investor Confidence and Strategic Vision
S Chand's strategic vision is clear: to expand its international footprint, strengthen its digital offerings, and capitalize on domestic curriculum reforms, all while maintaining stringent financial discipline. The company's proactive approach to content licensing, particularly in AI Datasets, and its commitment to improving working capital metrics underscore a management team focused on sustainable growth and value creation. The confidence in achieving future revenue and margin targets, coupled with a strategic outlook on capital allocation, including potential buybacks, reinforces investor trust in S Chand's long-term trajectory.
