Sai Silks Kalamandir Navigates Festive Shifts, Eyes Aggressive Growth
Sai Silks (Kalamandir) Limited, a prominent ethnic apparel retailer in South India, recently announced its financial results for the third quarter and nine months ended December 31, 2025. The period presented a mixed performance, with Q3 experiencing moderated demand primarily due to a shift in the festive calendar. However, the company demonstrated remarkable resilience and strategic agility, delivering robust growth over the nine-month period and setting an ambitious trajectory for future expansion.
For the third quarter of FY26, revenue from operations stood at INR 411.25 crore, a moderation from INR 448.5 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. This dip was largely attributed to the Dasara festival, a significant sales driver, occurring in Q2 this fiscal year, leading to comparatively lower footfalls in Q3. The men's and kids' wear categories within the KLM Fashion Mall format also saw some degrowth. Despite this, the company's gross margin for Q3 improved by 40 basis points year-on-year, reaching 42.2%, a testament to its pricing discipline and optimized product mix.
Strong Nine-Month Performance and Strategic Profitability
The nine-month period ending December 31, 2025, showcased Sai Silks' underlying strength and operational efficiency. Revenue from operations grew by an impressive 16.1% year-on-year, climbing to INR 1,234 crore from INR 1,063 crore in the same period last year. More notably, Profit After Tax (PAT) surged by 50% year-on-year, reaching INR 108 crore. This figure already surpasses the PAT of INR 105 crore recorded for the entire previous financial year, highlighting significant operational leverage and enhanced profitability. The PAT margin for 9M FY26 expanded by 200 basis points to 8.77% from 6.7% in 9M FY25.
Management attributed this strong performance to strategic cost discipline, particularly in advertisement and business promotion expenditures. Recognizing the shift in festive demand, the company consciously limited its aggressive spending in Q3, thereby protecting its margins. This proactive approach allowed Sai Silks to maintain a healthy EBIT margin of approximately 17%.
Ambitious Expansion and Market Penetration
Sai Silks is pursuing a calibrated yet aggressive expansion strategy. For the current financial year, the company is on track to add 60,000 to 65,000 square feet of retail space, with a possibility to exceed this target. Looking ahead, the plans for the next financial year are even more ambitious, targeting an addition of 80,000 to 85,000 square feet. This expansion will predominantly leverage the Varamahalakshmi and Valli formats.
The company's growth strategy extends beyond its existing strongholds in Telangana, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry. It is actively exploring new territories such as Maharashtra and Kerala. The approach involves opening 1-2 stores initially in new markets to understand local consumer behavior and product preferences before scaling up aggressively. This cluster-based expansion model, honed over two decades, aims to optimize back-end operations and administration.
Innovation, Technology, and Financial Prudence
Sai Silks continues to innovate in product offerings, introducing fancier and newer saree categories with innovative designs like pre-draped and ruffled sarees. This is complemented by a strong focus on technology, including an in-house ERP system for seamless operations, data analytics to identify fast-moving design trends, and AI/ML integration for granular store-level insights. These technological advancements are crucial for strengthening operational efficiencies and enhancing the customer experience.
Financially, the company remains robust, operating with zero working capital borrowings. The aggressive expansion planned for the next financial year is expected to be entirely funded by internal generations, supplemented by unutilized IPO funds. Management projects an overall revenue growth of 15-20% for the next financial year, driven by a 5% same-store growth (SSG) and 15% from new store additions. They are also targeting an EBITDA margin of 17-18% for the next financial year, underscoring their confidence in the scalability and profitability of their operating model.
Sai Silks (Kalamandir) Limited's Q3 FY26 results, while impacted by calendar shifts, underscore a resilient business model and strategic foresight. The strong nine-month performance, coupled with ambitious expansion plans, prudent financial management, and a keen eye on market trends and technological integration, positions the company for sustained growth and enhanced shareholder value in the dynamic Indian ethnic wear market.
