Suryoday Small Finance Bank Navigates Q3 FY26 with Digital Drive and Retail Focus
Suryoday Small Finance Bank has released its unaudited financial results for the third quarter and nine months ended December 31, 2025 (Q3 & 9M FY26), showcasing a period of strategic recalibration amidst a dynamic market. The Bank reported a Net Profit After Tax (PAT) of ₹36.56 crore for Q3 FY26, marking a 9.8% year-on-year increase from ₹33.30 crore in Q3 FY25. However, for the nine-month period, PAT stood at ₹102.25 crore, a 31.3% decline compared to ₹148.75 crore in 9M FY25. Net Interest Income (NII) for Q3 FY26 was ₹276.8 crore, up 3.2% year-on-year, but for 9M FY26, it saw a 9.2% decrease to ₹782.2 crore. Despite these mixed financial outcomes, the Bank demonstrated robust growth in its core business metrics, driven by a strong focus on digital initiatives and granular retail expansion.
Gross Advances for the Bank reached ₹11,885 crore as of December 31, 2025, registering a healthy 24.3% year-on-year growth. This growth was notably supported by inclusive finance, wheels, and mortgage segments. Disbursements, excluding Supply Chain Finance, for 9M FY26 were ₹6,230 crore, a 30.2% increase from the previous year. The Bank's deposit base expanded significantly by 32.5% year-on-year to ₹12,865 crore, with retail deposits now constituting a substantial 87% of the total. The CASA ratio improved to 21.2%, underscoring enhanced deposit granularity and franchise depth. Digital channels played a pivotal role, contributing nearly 30% of incremental deposit accretion and helping the Bank acquire mass-affluent retail customers at a significantly lower cost.
Strategic Shifts and Digital Momentum
Suryoday Small Finance Bank is actively executing a strategic shift from the Joint Liability Group (JLG) model towards individual lending, with Vikas Loans now comprising approximately 72% of the inclusive finance book. This move aims to enhance customer quality and portfolio granularity. The Bank has also maintained robust risk management, with close to 99% of its inclusive finance portfolio covered under the CGFMU scheme, providing strong capital protection. This proactive measure has been a cornerstone of their strategy since FY23, helping safeguard the balance sheet against unforeseen industry stress.
The digital banking ecosystem is a significant growth driver. The Bank's 'Credit on UPI' product, in partnership with Paytm, has shown strong early traction, with customer onboarding growing exponentially to 2.2 lakh active customers in one quarter. This initiative is expected to be a game-changer, allowing customers to start with low credit limits and gradually increase based on repayment behavior. The Bank is also investing in a 3-year tech roadmap to build a super-scale, customer-first banking platform, supported by in-house APIs and strong infrastructure.
Asset Quality and Future Outlook
Despite the growth, asset quality remains a key area of focus. The Gross Non-Performing Assets (GNPA) ratio stood at 6.6% and Net Non-Performing Assets (NNPA) ratio at 4.3% as of December 31, 2025. Management acknowledged that while slippages had reduced, the ratios increased quarter-on-quarter. They are actively working to resolve slippages, particularly in the non-MFI segment, and expect Q4 FY26 slippages to be around ₹100 crore. The Bank's capital adequacy ratio remains strong at 21.9%, well above the regulatory requirement, providing adequate headroom for future growth.
Management has provided guidance for FY26, expecting advances to grow by 30-35% and deposits by 40-45%, with CASA reaching over 22%. They aim for a secured asset mix of 55% and project ROA between 1.5% and 1.6%, and ROE between 11% and 12%. While acknowledging past underperformance in ROA/ROE and having revised guidance, the management expressed confidence in achieving these targets in the coming quarters, driven by improved repayment behavior, disciplined credit processes, and easing portfolio stress. The Bank's commitment to transparency and strategic course-correction positions it for a more stable and balanced growth trajectory in FY27.
Segment Performance Overview
Suryoday Small Finance Bank is navigating a complex financial landscape with a clear strategic vision. The emphasis on digital transformation, granular retail growth, and robust risk management through CGFMU coverage reflects a proactive approach to building a resilient and sustainable institution. While profitability metrics for the nine-month period show a decline, the strong growth in advances and deposits, coupled with management's commitment to operational efficiency and asset quality improvement, indicates a focused effort towards long-term value creation. The Bank's journey into its 10th year is marked by a determined push to stabilize performance and achieve healthier, more balanced growth.
