Tipco Engineering FY26: Margin Expansion, Export Uptick, and a Pune Scale-Up Plan
Ask Iris
Tipco Engineering India Limited closed FY26 with a sharp step-up in profitability, alongside steady revenue growth. On a standalone basis, total income for FY26 was INR 146.07 crore, up 9.54 percent year-on-year. The stronger story was margins: EBITDA increased to INR 38.90 crore, up 62.46 percent, and PAT rose to INR 25.31 crore, up 65.78 percent. The company’s FY26 EBITDA margin expanded to 26.63 percent and PAT margin to 17.32 percent.
The second half was even stronger. H2 FY26 total income was INR 95.81 crore, up 66.39 percent year-on-year, with EBITDA of INR 25.24 crore and PAT of INR 16.73 crore. Management linked the profitability improvement to operating leverage, cost discipline, and a shift toward higher-value opportunities.
FY26 in numbers: Growth in income, faster growth in profit
The FY26 income line grew modestly, but the cost structure improved. Cost of materials consumed declined in FY26 versus FY25 even as revenue increased, and the company reported higher absolute contribution.
In the earnings call, the CFO stated that margin expansion was structural, driven by a greater mix of customized engineered systems, defence-linked opportunities, export-led projects, and technology-linked applications, including through a German collaboration.
Where demand is coming from: Paints remain core, but mix is broadening
Tipco’s portfolio spans mills, dispersers and homogenizers, sold into multiple process industries. The investor presentation provides industry-wise operating revenue distribution, showing continued reliance on paints and coatings, but also a higher share from non-paint categories over time.
In FY26, paints and coatings contributed 60 percent of operating revenue. Construction and infrastructure contributed 10 percent, metal 8 percent, and others 22 percent. The company also disclosed that “others” includes chemical printing and packaging.
Customer concentration is visible. The top 10 clients contributed 67.24 percent of revenue in FY26, while “others” contributed 32.76 percent. This is a lower concentration than FY25 (78.83 percent from top 10), but still indicates meaningful dependence on key accounts.
On geography, the company remains domestic-heavy but is scaling exports. FY26 exports were 7.10 percent of revenue compared to roughly 3 percent in FY23 to FY25. Export destinations listed in the presentation include Austria, Nepal, the UAE, Uganda and Russia.
Strategy and execution: Pune expansion, German collaboration, and defence participation
Management described a five-pillar approach in the earnings call. Three themes stood out as measurable: capacity expansion, technology collaboration, and defence participation.
First, the Pune expansion. Management called it a “mega capacity expansion” and described it as both a manufacturing scale-up and a testing or experience center, where customers can run trials before ordering. They provided a phased ramp-up timeline: 25 percent capacity in the current financial year, about 75 percent next year, and full production over about two years.
Second, the German technology collaboration with LexaMix. Management said this partnership strengthens process expertise, engineering capability and global credibility, and supports higher-value applications. They also positioned it as a driver of import substitution, describing Tipco as a credible Indian alternative to imported European engineering systems.
Third, defence. Management said defence and aerospace are strategically important and highlighted DRDO and HEMRL engagement. They stated they received approvals, conducted trials, and sold at least one lab machine. They also said DRDO is recommending Tipco to vendors for procurement, and cited applications such as nano dispersion in rocket fuel related processes.
The company’s investor presentation also highlights an order book of INR 76.41 crore in FY26, and high capacity utilization (89 percent in FY26). In the call, management said the order book typically stays in the INR 60 crore range, reflecting a blend of smaller orders and larger turnkey projects.
Balance sheet and cash flow: lower leverage, but receivables warrant tracking
Tipco reported meaningful changes in balance sheet structure in FY26. Debt-to-equity improved to 0.41 times from 1.13 times in FY25. The current ratio improved to 2.04 times in FY26.
However, working capital signals were mixed. Trade receivables increased to INR 67.32 crore in FY26 from INR 26.22 crore in FY25. The receivable turnover ratio declined to 2.16 times in FY26. In the concall, management attributed the higher receivable base to higher sales in the second half and stated that collections are on time, also pointing out that inventory reduced from INR 31.24 crore to INR 21.80 crore.
Cash flows also reflect the working-capital nature of the business. Cash flow from operations was INR 3.26 crore in FY26 versus INR 12.14 crore in FY25. Cash and bank balances rose sharply to INR 60.23 crore in FY26, which management linked to unutilized IPO proceeds at year-end.
On capex and funding approach, the CFO estimated Pune capex at about INR 40 crore, with potential additional capex of up to INR 20 crore for the existing facility, taking overall capex to about INR 60 crore at full scale. They also stated that capex would be funded through term loans (around 75 percent) and company margin (around 25 percent).
Takeaways
FY26 establishes Tipco’s improved profitability profile, with large jumps in EBITDA and PAT margins despite modest top-line growth. The company is still anchored to paints and coatings and remains dependent on key customers, but is showing signs of diversification through exports, construction chemicals, and other process industries.
The next phase is clearly articulated in management commentary: a Pune expansion with a trial center model, deeper technology collaboration with LexaMix, and growing defence participation. For investors, the main operating variables to watch will be execution of the Pune ramp-up, sustainability of elevated margins, and working-capital discipline given the sharp rise in receivables in FY26.
