United Breweries Navigates Winter Chill with Strong Q3 FY26 Margin Expansion
Ask Iris
United Breweries Limited (UBL) has presented a nuanced picture for Q3 FY26, demonstrating robust financial performance despite facing headwinds in sales volumes. For the quarter ended December 31, 2025, the company reported a 4% increase in Net Sales, reaching INR 2,071 crore, up from INR 1,998 crore in the corresponding period last year. This growth was primarily driven by a favorable price mix, which helped offset a 1.3% decline in overall sell-in volume during the quarter. The volume dip was attributed to a colder-than-usual winter and specific regional challenges in states like Telangana, Rajasthan, and Karnataka.
Despite the quarterly volume contraction, UBL showcased significant improvements in profitability. Gross Profit surged by 9% to INR 939 crore, leading to a substantial 222 basis points expansion in Gross Margin, which stood at 45.3%. This margin accretion, combined with disciplined cost management and productivity initiatives, propelled Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) to INR 167 crore, an impressive 86% increase year-on-year. Profit after Tax also saw a remarkable jump of 111%, reaching INR 81 crore for the quarter. The company's Brand Power was noted to be at its highest in three years, underscoring strong brand equity and market positioning.
For the year-to-date (YTD) FY26, UBL's performance also reflected growth in key areas. Net Sales increased by 6% to INR 6,985 crore, and Gross Profit grew by 6% to INR 3,035 crore. While YTD EBIT saw a modest 1% increase to INR 507 crore, the Profit after Tax for YTD FY26 experienced a 9% decline to INR 311 crore, primarily impacted by a significant 511% increase in finance costs. This rise in finance costs, from INR 7 crore in YTD FY25 to INR 43 crore in YTD FY26, represents a notable headwind to overall profitability.
