Wipro Navigates Q3 FY26 with Strategic AI Focus Amidst Mixed Performance
Ask Iris
Wipro Limited, a prominent global information technology, consulting, and business process services company, recently announced its financial results for the third quarter of fiscal year 2026 (Q3 FY26). The company reported IT Services revenue of ₹23,378.1 crore, reflecting a 1.2% sequential growth in reported terms. However, on a constant currency basis, the IT Services revenue saw a year-on-year decline of 1.2%. Despite the top-line challenges, Wipro demonstrated resilience in its operating margins and continued its strategic pivot towards AI-led transformation, highlighted by the integration of HARMAN DTS.
The quarter's performance was influenced by a blend of sector-specific dynamics and strategic initiatives. Americas 1, for instance, delivered sequential and year-on-year growth, driven by strong performance in Healthcare, Consumer, and LATAM. Conversely, Americas 2 experienced a sequential decline. Europe showed sequential growth, buoyed by the ramp-up of a previously announced mega deal. APMEA also grew sequentially and year-on-year, led by India, Middle East, and Southeast Asia, with BFSI showing strong traction. From a sector perspective, BFSI grew 2.6% sequentially, and Health grew 4.2% sequentially, while Consumer and EMR faced headwinds.
Strategic Imperatives: AI and Acquisitions Driving Future Growth
Wipro's strategic direction is firmly anchored in becoming a consulting-led, AI-powered entity. The company introduced 'Wipro Intelligence,' a unified approach designed to deliver AI-powered transformation across industries. This initiative is built on three strategic pillars: industry platforms and solutions (such as Payer AI in Healthcare, NetOxygen for lending, and AutoCortex for automotive), delivery platforms (like WINGS and WeGA, which embed AI into operations), and the Wipro Innovation Network (connecting labs with partners, startups, and universities). This comprehensive framework aims to streamline operations, improve customer outcomes, and open new avenues for growth.
A significant development in Q3 FY26 was the completion of the HARMAN DTS acquisition. This strategic move is expected to enhance Wipro's engineering and AI capabilities, strengthening its engineering global business line and accelerating AI-driven product innovation. The acquisition also opens new regions and high-growth industries, enabling Wipro to undertake larger and more complex transformation programs. This integration is anticipated to foster entry into new markets, build deeper client relationships, and translate innovation into long-term value.
Navigating Challenges and Maintaining Financial Discipline
Despite the strategic advancements, Wipro faced certain challenges during the quarter. The EMR vertical was impacted by macroeconomic uncertainty, tariff-related issues, and disrupted supply chains. Similarly, the Consumer sector experienced headwinds due to tariffs and a large SAP program being put on hold by customers. Total bookings and large deal bookings saw a year-on-year decline in constant currency, indicating a cautious spending environment among clients.
However, Wipro demonstrated strong financial discipline. The IT services operating margin expanded to 17.6%, a notable improvement of 0.9% sequentially and 0.1% year-on-year, marking one of the best margin performances in the last seven quarters. Operating cash flows remained robust at 135.4% of Net Income. The company also took one-off charges, including INR 302 crore for gratuity expenses due to a new labor code and INR 263 crore for a restructuring exercise focused on obsolete skillsets in Europe and Capco, reflecting proactive management of its workforce.
Outlook and Shareholder Returns
For the fourth quarter ending March 31, 2026, Wipro projects sequential IT Services revenue growth of 0.0% to 2.0% in constant currency, translating to a revenue range of 2,688 million. This guidance incorporates the incremental revenue from HARMAN DTS but also accounts for fewer working days and delays in ramping up some large deals. Management reiterated its commitment to maintaining margins in a similar band as in recent quarters, balancing growth investments with profitability.
In line with its capital allocation policy, Wipro declared an interim dividend of INR 6 per share, bringing the total distribution to shareholders to over $1.3 billion for the current fiscal year. The company also confirmed that buybacks remain an option for returning excess cash to shareholders, subject to board discussions and statutory considerations. Wipro's Q3 FY26 performance underscores its strategic focus on AI and acquisitions to drive future growth, while diligently managing operational efficiency and shareholder returns amidst a dynamic market landscape.
