Why did DOMS profit fall despite higher Q2 revenue?
DOMS profit fell because costs rose faster than revenue, pre-exceptional profit declined and the Group recorded a flood-related exceptional expense. Profit before tax was Rs 50.9501 crore in the September 2026 quarter, compared with Rs 81.8132 crore a year earlier, while net profit declined from Rs 60.854 crore to Rs 38.3217 crore. Basic earnings per share fell to Rs 6.10 from Rs 9.60.
Revenue from operations increased to Rs 667.754 crore from Rs 567.9106 crore in the September 2025 quarter, but total expenses rose to Rs 611.1683 crore from Rs 492.5172 crore. Cost of materials consumed increased to Rs 422.114 crore from Rs 313.4326 crore, while employee benefits expense increased to Rs 101.0172 crore from Rs 81.5593 crore.
Profit before the share of associate loss, exceptional items and tax declined 25% to Rs 61.3398 crore from Rs 81.8257 crore. The Group's share of loss from its associate was Rs 0.0026 crore, compared with a Rs 0.0125 crore loss a year earlier. The fall before exceptional items indicates that the profit decline was not solely due to the flooding charge.
How did flooding affect DOMS Q2 earnings?
Flooding resulted in a Rs 10.3871 crore net exceptional expense in the September 2026 quarter. DOMS said the event damaged inventories, certain property, plant and equipment, and two vehicles owned by a subsidiary. Management assessed the resulting loss at Rs 12.1236 crore and recognised Rs 1.7365 crore of recovery from vehicle insurance claims within exceptional items.
DOMS has submitted insurance claims for losses at its warehouse facilities in Gujarat, and management expects a substantial portion of the losses to be recoverable under the applicable policies. Apart from the Rs 1.7365 crore vehicle recovery, however, the Group had not recognised further insurance income as of September 30, 2026 because claim assessment and settlement were ongoing.
The same Rs 10.3871 crore exceptional expense was recorded for the six months ended September 30, 2026. Half-year profit before tax fell to Rs 112.0893 crore from Rs 161.1533 crore in the comparable 2025 period, while net profit decreased to Rs 83.5968 crore from Rs 119.956 crore. The unresolved claims therefore remain relevant to both the quarterly and half-year reported figures.
Which DOMS segment changed most in Q2?
Stationery Products remained DOMS' largest segment and accounted for the main decline in segment profitability. Stationery revenue rose 17% to Rs 610.1609 crore in the September 2026 quarter from Rs 520.6039 crore a year earlier. Its operating profit, however, declined 18% to Rs 83.7349 crore from Rs 102.0851 crore.
Stationery Products profit before interest, exceptional items and tax decreased to Rs 62.2658 crore from Rs 82.6861 crore. Depreciation and amortisation in the segment rose to Rs 21.4691 crore from Rs 19.399 crore. Total segment profit before interest, exceptional items and tax declined to Rs 63.3787 crore from Rs 83.9225 crore, reflecting the movement in the much larger stationery business.
Hygiene Products recorded higher revenue but lower operating profit in the quarter. Revenue increased to Rs 57.5931 crore from Rs 47.4061 crore, while operating profit fell to Rs 3.7736 crore from Rs 3.8624 crore. Its profit before interest, exceptional items and tax was Rs 1.1129 crore, compared with Rs 1.2364 crore in the prior-year quarter.
For the six months ended September 30, 2026, Stationery Products revenue increased to Rs 1,236.0685 crore from Rs 1,046.8354 crore, while Hygiene Products revenue rose to Rs 102.1937 crore from Rs 83.4518 crore. What plans and post-quarter events did DOMS disclose?
DOMS said construction and installation at its new manufacturing facility were in the final stages of completion as of September 30, 2026. The facility had originally been scheduled for completion by March 31, 2026. The company stated that the entire Rs 332.7245 crore of net initial public offering proceeds had been utilised by September 30, 2026, including Rs 280 crore for the proposed project.
After the reporting date, DOMS incorporated DOMS Seven Private Limited as a wholly owned subsidiary on October 22, 2026. The subsidiary was established to manufacture, design, assemble, trade, distribute, import, export and deal in backpacks and bags. This disclosure identifies a new product category, but the filing did not provide a financial target, investment amount or launch date for the subsidiary.
Conclusion
DOMS combined 18% revenue growth in the September 2026 quarter with a 37% decline in net profit to Rs 38.3217 crore. Higher material and employee costs reduced profit before exceptional items, while the Rs 10.3871 crore net flood-related expense further lowered reported earnings. Stationery Products drove most revenue but also accounted for the principal decline in segment profit.
The next disclosed developments to watch are the assessment and settlement of Gujarat warehouse insurance claims, for which management expects substantial recovery but had recognised only Rs 1.7365 crore for vehicles as of September 30, 2026. DOMS also said its new manufacturing facility was in final-stage completion, while DOMS Seven Private Limited was incorporated on October 22, 2026 for backpacks and bags.
