Go Colors expands retail area despite fewer EBO outlets
Ask Iris
Go Fashion (India) Limited, operating as Go Colors, reduced its exclusive brand outlet (EBO) count by 65 in H1 FY27 after 89 closures exceeded 24 openings. Yet its retail area reached 4,48,199 square feet in Sep’26, 3% above FY26, as Go Colors focused on EBOs exceeding 700 square feet.
How did Go Colors’ EBO network change in H1 FY27?
Go Colors’ EBO network declined by a net 65 outlets in H1 FY27, with 24 openings and 89 closures. The company reported 737 EBOs as of 30 September 2026, operating across 196 cities and 23 states and union territories. This followed FY26, when 80 openings and 54 closures resulted in a net addition of 26 EBOs.
The pattern changed from successive annual net additions between FY23 and FY26 to a net reduction in H1 FY27. Closures in the half-year were 35 higher than the 54 closures recorded in all of FY26, while openings were 56 lower than FY26’s 80. Go Colors notes that FY23 through FY26 store figures are net of replacements, which qualifies comparisons with the reported additions and closures.
Of the 737 EBOs, 540 were on high streets, 196 were in malls and airports, and one was international. Go Colors also operated 2,547 large format stores (LFSs) as of 30 September 2026. EBOs accounted for 71.4% of sales, compared with 23.0% for LFSs, 3.7% online and 1.9% for multi-brand outlets and other channels.
Why is Go Colors shifting toward larger EBOs?
Go Colors is focusing on EBOs of more than 700 square feet because management says larger outlets can display the full inventory and provide a more seamless in-store experience. Its examples show store sizes of 304, 194 and 908 square feet in a Rajasthan city, and 279, 304 and 976 square feet in a Maharashtra city.
Retail area rose even as the EBO count fell in H1 FY27. Go Colors reported 4,48,199 square feet in Sep’26, up 14,220 square feet from 4,33,979 square feet in FY26. The FY26 total was 43,282 square feet above FY25’s 3,90,697 square feet, an 11% increase reported by the company.
The reported average EBO size was about 608 square feet in Sep’26, below the 700-plus-square-foot format that Go Colors is prioritising. The company’s stated five-year ambition is to nearly double retail area, rather than to disclose a specific EBO-count target. Management says the area expansion is intended to support revenue maximisation and cost optimisation.
How does merchandise mix support Go Colors’ larger-store plan?
Go Colors’ merchandise mix has shifted toward value-added bottoms, which represented about 70% of revenue in H1 FY27. Churidar and leggings fell from 58% of product mix in FY19 to 38% in FY25 and 30% in H1 FY27, increasing the need to present a broader range of products in stores.
The range spans ethnic, western, fusion and athleisure wear, as well as denims, lounge wear, Go Plus and girls wear. Go Colors says it offers more than 50 bottom-wear styles in more than 120 colours. The stated full-inventory display benefit of larger EBOs therefore relates to an assortment that has broadened beyond the company’s earlier leggings-led mix.
Go Colors reported that 75.0% of products retail below Rs 1,049. Its typical price ranges include Rs 499 to Rs 1,399 for western wear, Rs 799 to Rs 1,499 for denims, and Rs 249 to Rs 999 for girls wear. The company also launched the Mostly Same collection featuring products including cargo pants, denim cargo pants, parachute pants, cargo sweat pants and a blue denim skirt.
What EBO economics does Go Colors disclose?
Go Colors reports average yearly revenue per EBO of Rs 85 lakh to Rs 90 lakh and average investment of Rs 37 lakh to Rs 38 lakh per EBO, including inventory. The company gives a payback period of about 15 to 18 months, an average selling price of Rs 827, and says 93% of EBO sales are at full price. These are company-reported network metrics rather than a forecast for each new or resized EBO.
The 4,48,199-square-foot network and average store size of about 608 square feet were reported alongside those metrics for Sep’26. Go Colors says store location and size are optimised for store profitability, and attributes limited discounting to the year-round relevance of bottom wear. Its presentation does not disclose separately whether the larger 700-plus-square-foot format produces different revenue, investment or payback outcomes from the network average.
Go Colors supports all channels through warehouses of more than 144,000 square feet in Tirupur, Tamil Nadu, and 12,000 square feet in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra. It also reported 168 suppliers and 70 job-workers across 18 states and union territories. The company says its enterprise resource planning system and automated inventory operations support procurement and stock availability across stores.
Where is Go Colors expanding and what comes next?
Go Colors remains concentrated in larger cities while stating its focus on additional EBOs in Tier II and Tier III cities. The top two cities had 131 EBOs and the next six had 270, or 401 combined. The company says 54.4% of EBOs were across the top eight cities, while the South had 343 EBOs, ahead of the West’s 206, North’s 128 and East’s 59.
The network grew from 121 cities in FY22 to 196 in H1 FY27, an addition of 75 cities over four years. Go Colors added 15 cities in FY26 but one city in H1 FY27. Management says it plans to deepen existing geographies as well as build presence in newer locations across India, alongside the larger-store strategy.
Go Colors reported advertising expense of 2.90% of revenue in both FY26 and H1 FY27, compared with 2.00% in FY25. Management says advertising cost is intended to remain around 2% to 3% of revenue, and describes EBOs in high-footfall locations as a primary advertising channel. The company also said it partnered with Shraddha Kapoor as brand ambassador from July 2026.
Conclusion
Go Colors’ H1 FY27 network data shows a change in the measure of expansion: EBO count fell by 65, but retail area increased 3% from FY26 to 4,48,199 square feet. The shift aligns with management’s preference for EBOs above 700 square feet and with a product mix in which value-added bottoms contributed about 70% of H1 FY27 revenue.
The next disclosed milestone is management’s five-year ambition to nearly double retail area. Progress will depend on how Go Colors develops larger EBOs while deepening existing markets, adding Tier II and Tier III locations, and managing the reported 737-EBO estate after the 89 closures in H1 FY27.
