Maruti Suzuki India has concluded the 2025 calendar year with a landmark performance, achieving its highest-ever total sales and setting a new benchmark in exports. The company's total sales volume reached 2,351,139 units, driven by robust domestic demand and a significant surge in international shipments. This performance marks the highest wholesale figures in the company's 42-year history, underscoring its continued dominance in the Indian automotive market.
The standout achievement for 2025 was the company's export performance. Maruti Suzuki shipped a record 395,648 vehicles, marking a substantial growth of over 21% compared to the previous year. This accomplishment solidifies its position as India's leading passenger vehicle exporter for the fifth consecutive year, demonstrating the global appeal and quality of vehicles manufactured in India.
Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India, commented on the milestone. He stated, "This is a proud moment for the company as we record our highest-ever calendar year exports of 3.95 lakh units. It reflects India’s manufacturing strength and the trust of customers worldwide." He also noted that this growth is a significant contribution to the nation's export momentum during a period of global trade uncertainty, reinforcing the 'Make in India' initiative.
The company's export strategy involved shipping 18 different models to over 100 countries. A notable development in 2025 was the commencement of exports for Suzuki's first Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), the e-Vitara. Over 13,000 units of the e-Vitara have already been shipped to 29 countries, primarily in Europe, signaling the company's strategic entry into the global EV market and its readiness for the future of mobility.
The domestic market remained a cornerstone of Maruti Suzuki's success. Total domestic sales, including volumes supplied to other Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), showed consistent strength throughout the year. For instance, in December 2025 alone, total sales stood at 217,854 units, with domestic sales accounting for 182,165 units. The company reported strong retail sales of 286,000 units in December, with pending bookings at 175,000 units, indicating healthy demand heading into the new year.
Several factors fueled this record-breaking year. The utility vehicle (UV) segment was a major contributor, growing by 32.6%. This highlights the company's successful expansion into the popular SUV and MPV categories with models like the Brezza, Ertiga, Fronx, and Grand Vitara, which have resonated well with Indian consumers.
Despite the market's shift towards SUVs, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire finished the year as the industry's top-selling model. This demonstrates sustained demand for compact sedans, driven by factors like fuel efficiency, reliability, and low ownership costs. Furthermore, the company's focus on CNG vehicles paid off, with sales nearing 700,000 units. CNG penetration in its portfolio increased by nearly 5% year-on-year, accounting for 37% of its vehicle mix, catering to a value-conscious customer base.
Maruti Suzuki's performance in 2025 not only strengthens its market leadership but also enhances India's reputation as a global automotive manufacturing hub. The record exports contribute significantly to the country's foreign exchange earnings. The company remains optimistic about future demand, supported by a low dealer inventory of just three days and a healthy pipeline of pending bookings.
In summary, 2025 was a historic year for Maruti Suzuki, defined by unprecedented sales volumes and a new peak in export achievements. The company's balanced portfolio, covering popular segments from compact cars and sedans to utility vehicles and a growing CNG lineup, has proven effective. With the initiation of EV exports, Maruti Suzuki is also positioning itself for the future of mobility, both in India and globally.
