Ask Iris
Sportking India Limited, a prominent player in the Indian textile sector, has reported a robust financial performance for the third quarter and nine months ended December 31, 2025. Despite facing global headwinds and tariff challenges, the company demonstrated resilience and strategic foresight, delivering significant growth across key financial metrics. For Q3 FY26, the company's revenue from operations increased by 6% year-on-year to INR 645.9 Crores. This growth was underpinned by a healthy expansion in profitability, with EBITDA surging by 10.8% year-on-year to INR 65.6 Crores, and Profit After Tax (PAT) witnessing an impressive 33% rise to INR 24.6 Crores. The company also improved its operational efficiency, reflected in an expanded EBITDA margin of 10.2% and a PAT margin of 3.8% for the quarter.
The nine-month period also showcased steady performance, with revenue from operations standing at INR 1,859.1 Crores. Gross profit for 9M FY26 amounted to INR 458.5 Crores, a 2.8% increase year-on-year, with the gross profit margin expanding by 113 basis points to 24.7%. This margin improvement was primarily attributed to stable raw material prices, better inventory optimization, and improved purchase management. EBITDA for the nine months grew by 3.8% to INR 200.5 Crores, with an EBITDA margin of 10.8%, an increase of 59 basis points year-on-year. PAT for 9M FY26 stood at INR 87 Crores, an 11.8% increase year-on-year, with a PAT margin of 4.7%. The company maintained a high capacity utilization of 96% in Q3 FY26, one of the highest in the industry, underscoring its operational efficiency.
Strategic Initiatives Driving Future Growth
Sportking India Limited is not just focusing on current performance but is actively laying the groundwork for future expansion and value creation. A significant initiative is the greenfield capacity addition project in Odisha. This project involves setting up 1.50 lakh spindles, which will increase the company's existing spinning capacity by approximately 40% over its current 3.79 lakh spindles. With a total outlay of INR 1,000 Crores, funded through a mix of term loans and internal accruals, this expansion is expected to add INR 1,200-1,300 Crores to the company's annual turnover. The land has been acquired, approvals secured, and ground-breaking activities have commenced, with commissioning anticipated to start by Q3 FY26 and full utilization by the end of the next financial year.
Another pivotal strategic move is the proposed mergers for forward integration. The company has received in-principle approval for the merger of M/s Marvel Dyers and Processor Pvt Ltd, engaged in fabric dyeing, printing, and finishing, and M/s Sobhagia Sales Pvt Ltd, involved in manufacturing and retailing readymade garments, with Sportking India Limited. This amalgamation aims to enable forward integration, allowing Sportking to expand its operations higher up the textile product chain and enhance value addition. These merged entities are projected to contribute around INR 200 Crores to the top line with a 15% bottom line contribution, with expectations to grow this turnover to INR 250-260 Crores in the next financial year. The merger process is expected to be completed by the end of Q3 FY26, with the company becoming a single entity from April 1st, 2026.
Commitment to Sustainability and Operational Efficiency
Sportking is also making significant strides in its commitment to sustainable operations through renewable energy. The company has invested INR 14.10 Crores for a 26% equity share in M/s Evincea Renewable Seven Pvt. Ltd., a special purpose vehicle that will commission a 40.3 MW solar power plant. This initiative is expected to increase Sportking's renewable power consumption to 40-45% of its total consumption, leading to an estimated annual saving of INR 16 Crores in power costs, representing a 10-12% reduction. The power supply from this new solar plant is scheduled to commence on March 1st, 2026, further enhancing the company's cost competitiveness and environmental footprint.
Favorable Market Dynamics and Outlook
The management expressed optimism about the future of the Indian textile sector, citing several favorable market dynamics. Recent trade deals, such as the India-USA deal and the finalized EU-India FTA, are expected to unlock significant demand for Indian apparel and textiles. These agreements are anticipated to provide a level playing field for Indian exporters by reducing tariffs, making them more competitive against other textile-producing nations. The industry is also witnessing a consolidation phase, with many inefficient mills shutting down, which is expected to benefit well-managed and efficient units like Sportking. The 'China+1' strategy adopted by many developed countries further positions India as a preferred sourcing destination, creating massive opportunities for the sector.
Sportking's management anticipates margin improvements in the coming quarters, driven by positive market sentiments and the benefits from strategic initiatives. The company is actively engaged with the government to address the issue of cotton prices and duties, hoping for duty-free access for U.S. cotton to enhance global competitiveness. With its robust financial performance, strategic expansions, and commitment to sustainability, Sportking India Limited is well-positioned to capitalize on emerging opportunities and continue its growth trajectory in the dynamic textile industry.
