Sunsky Logistics H1 FY27 Loss: Costs Outrun Revenue

H1 results reverse from prior-year profit
Sunsky Logistics Limited reported a net loss of ₹0.82 crore for the half year ended September 30, 2026, reversing a profit of ₹1.05 crore in the corresponding period a year earlier. The Ahmedabad-based logistics company recorded strong growth in revenue, but its expenses rose at a faster rate. Total revenue increased to ₹25.37 crore in H1 FY27 from ₹12.47 crore in H1 FY26. Revenue from operations nearly doubled to ₹25.24 crore from ₹12.23 crore. However, total expenses climbed to ₹25.86 crore, leaving the company with a loss before tax of ₹0.49 crore. The board approved the unaudited standalone financial results on October 29, 2026. The results show that higher business volumes did not translate into profitability during the period. They also include a qualified review observation from the statutory auditors concerning a fraud recovery claim.
Revenue growth was substantial
The company added ₹12.90 crore to total revenue on a year-on-year basis. This represented growth of about 103% over the H1 FY26 level. Revenue from operations accounted for almost all of the reported income during the half year. The increase suggests a significant expansion in the volume or scale of logistics activity compared with the earlier period. Other income was ₹0.14 crore in H1 FY27, compared with ₹0.24 crore a year earlier, based on the difference between total revenue and revenue from operations. The weaker other-income contribution was not the principal factor behind the loss. Instead, the key issue was the pace of increase in operating, finance and depreciation costs. Total expenses rose about 157%, outstripping the increase in total revenue. This gap between revenue growth and cost growth defined the H1 FY27 performance.
Freight and road transport costs expanded
Freight, handling and servicing costs were ₹17.13 crore in H1 FY27. The company also reported road transportation direct expenses of ₹4.82 crore. This cost line was nil in the comparable H1 FY26 period. Together, these two categories formed a large part of the half-year cost base. Their increase indicates that the business expansion came with materially higher direct operating expenditure. The supplied financial information does not provide a separate explanation for the introduction of the road transportation direct-expense line. Still, its inclusion is relevant when comparing the two reporting periods. Cost expansion was sufficiently high to absorb the gains from the sharp rise in operating revenue. As a result, Sunsky Logistics moved to a loss before tax despite its higher top line.
Finance and depreciation charges rose sharply
Finance costs increased to ₹1.14 crore in H1 FY27 from ₹0.30 crore in H1 FY26. The increase coincided with higher borrowing levels reported in the balance sheet. Long-term borrowings stood at ₹13.33 crore as of September 30, 2026, compared with ₹9.62 crore as of March 31, 2026. Short-term borrowings rose to ₹8.08 crore from ₹4.64 crore over the same period. Depreciation and amortisation expense increased to ₹1.19 crore from ₹0.05 crore. The company stated that it changed the depreciation method for trucks from the Written Down Value method to the Straight-Line method with effect from April 1, 2026. This accounting change partly contributed to the rise in depreciation. The higher finance and depreciation charges added pressure to profit before tax during the half year.
Key H1 FY27 financial figures
Fraud recovery claim draws auditor qualification
Statutory auditors Ankit M. Shah & Co. issued a qualified review report related to a fraud incident during the half year. According to the disclosed information, Sunsky Logistics remitted USD 4.87 lakh, or approximately ₹4.70 crore, to an unrelated bank account. The payment was made on the basis of fraudulent payment instructions that appeared to originate from the email of its US service provider. The company has recognised the amount as a Fraud Recovery Claim under Other Current Assets. Management expects a full recovery through legal action and bank recall requests. On that basis, it has not made a provision for the amount. The auditors said evidence of virtual certainty of recovery was not yet available under AS 29. They stated that this affected the recognition of profit before tax.
Working-capital position and operating cash flow
The balance sheet data also points to increased funds deployed in short-term loans and advances. This item rose to ₹4.43 crore at September 30, 2026, from ₹0.53 crore earlier. Sunsky Logistics reported negative cash flow from operations of ₹6.63 crore for the half year. Negative operating cash flow can arise when cash outflows linked to operating activity and working capital exceed cash generated from business operations during a period. The disclosed figures show that the rise in revenue was accompanied by a higher funding requirement. Higher short-term loans and advances, along with the fraud recovery claim recorded as a current asset, are relevant to assessing this position. The results do not state when the legal action or bank recall process will be concluded. Therefore, the eventual recovery of the claimed amount remains subject to the outcome of those processes.
IPO proceeds and borrowing levels
Sunsky Logistics raised ₹16.84 crore through its SME IPO in October 2025. The company’s H1 FY27 balance sheet nevertheless shows an increase in both long-term and short-term borrowings since March 2026. Long-term borrowings rose by ₹3.71 crore over that period, while short-term borrowings increased by ₹3.44 crore. The higher debt levels are consistent with the rise in finance costs reported in the profit and loss account. The company has cited capital expansion projects in explaining its decision not to recommend a dividend. The results do not provide further details on the specific projects, their cost or their completion schedule. Investors will therefore need to rely on future company disclosures for updates on capital deployment and borrowings. The interaction between expansion spending, debt servicing and operating costs will remain relevant in subsequent results.
No dividend recommended for the period
The board did not recommend a dividend for the period ended September 30, 2026. Sunsky Logistics said it intended to conserve resources for capital expansion projects. The decision follows a half year in which the company reported a net loss and negative cash flow from operations. Retaining resources can preserve funds within the business, although the company has not specified the amount earmarked for each planned project. The absence of a dividend recommendation is a board decision for this reporting period rather than an indication of any stated long-term dividend policy. The financial statements were approved as unaudited standalone results. Any subsequent disclosure on the fraud recovery, expansion projects or funding structure could provide additional context. For now, the company’s reported H1 FY27 position reflects a clear separation between revenue growth and profit generation.
Why the results matter
Sunsky Logistics delivered more than double the revenue in H1 FY27, but the increase in direct operating expenses, finance costs and depreciation was greater. The result was a loss before tax of ₹0.49 crore and a net loss of ₹0.82 crore, compared with a ₹1.05 crore profit in the previous corresponding half year. The qualified auditor observation adds an accounting and recovery issue to the financial review. Management expects to recover approximately ₹4.70 crore linked to fraudulent payment instructions, while the auditors have said virtual certainty of recovery has not been demonstrated. The company is also carrying higher borrowings and reported negative operating cash flow of ₹6.63 crore. Its next financial disclosures will be important for updates on cost management, borrowings, cash generation and the recovery claim. The board’s stated focus remains conserving resources for capital expansion projects.
