Universal Autofoundry Navigates Q3FY26 with Strategic Growth and Cost Optimization
Ask Iris
Universal Autofoundry, a prominent manufacturer of Grey Cast Iron and Ductile Iron Machined castings, has released its investor presentation for Q3 FY26, highlighting a period of strategic initiatives amidst some financial headwinds. The company reported a revenue of ₹49.2 crore for the quarter, marking a healthy 6% year-on-year growth. However, on a sequential basis, revenue saw a 10% moderation following a strong Q2. Operational profitability, as measured by EBITDA, stood at ₹0.6 crore, a notable decline from ₹4.1 crore in Q2 FY26. Consequently, the company recorded a Net Loss After Tax (PAT) of ₹3.1 crore for the quarter.
The dip in profitability was primarily attributed to several factors, including higher raw material costs, increased depreciation and finance costs, and elevated power and fuel expenses. These elements collectively led to a compression in EBITDA margins, which came in at 1.2% for Q3 FY26. Despite these challenges, the company's volume growth remained robust at 10% year-on-year, driven by strong performance in the Tractor and M&HCV segments. Earth-moving equipment volumes, however, remained soft during the period. The management anticipates a pickup in momentum into FY27, supported by tractor-led strength and an improving equipment cycle.
Financial Snapshot: Q3 FY26 Performance
Strategic Initiatives and Future Roadmap
Universal Autofoundry is not merely reacting to market conditions but is proactively implementing strategic initiatives to ensure long-term growth and profitability. A significant development is the commissioning of a 5MW solar power plant, which is expected to support margin improvement by reducing power and fuel costs in the coming quarters. Furthermore, the company has initiated work on an additional 8MW solar power project in Churu, slated for commissioning within the next six months, anticipating a substantial reduction in overall power costs and enhanced profitability.
In a move to strengthen its market position and diversify its revenue base, Universal Autofoundry has entered into a new contractual arrangement with Kranti Industries, operational from January 2026. This seven-year agreement, with a three-year lock-in period, involves UAL leasing its Sargoth machining premises and equipment to Kranti Industries, which will exclusively manage the machining of UAL's casting components. This collaboration aims to build an integrated value chain, improve quality and efficiency, and optimize costs, while allowing UAL to focus on its core foundry strengths.
Diversification and Export Expansion
Recognizing the cyclical nature of the tractor segment, Universal Autofoundry is actively pursuing diversification. The company aims for the M&HCV, Construction, Engineering, and other sectors to collectively form more than 75% of its overall revenue mix over the next 3-5 years. This strategy is designed to minimize business volatility and ensure a more stable growth trajectory. The New Ferrous Line (HPML Line) continues to operate at a capacity of 12,000 MT per year, currently running one full shift, with expectations for further improvement in utilization levels as volumes ramp up.
Exports also present a significant growth avenue. Despite a 58% quarter-on-quarter decline in Q3 FY26, partly due to US tariffs on a prominent customer, exports were up 50% year-on-year. With recent announcements of trade deals with the EU and US, the company expects export momentum to pick up significantly into FY27, projecting exports to contribute approximately 10% to revenues over the next three years. This global expansion is a key tailwind for the medium term.
Operational Efficiency and Capacity Utilization
The company's current capacity utilization averaged 55% at the end of Q3 FY26, reflecting improved scale compared to Q3 FY25. Management expects capacity utilization to improve from FY27 onwards to 65%, inclusive of unit-3 capacity. These ongoing efforts to reduce costs and streamline operations are anticipated to yield benefits into FY27, driving economies of scale and supporting margin expansion. Universal Autofoundry's commitment to leveraging strong domestic demand as a stable foundation for growth, coupled with strengthening its presence in existing international markets through targeted investments and partnerships, underscores its forward-looking approach.
Segmental Revenue Contribution (Q3 FY26)
Universal Autofoundry's Q3 FY26 performance, while impacted by cost pressures, demonstrates a clear strategic direction towards sustainable growth. Through proactive cost optimization via solar power, strategic collaborations, and aggressive market diversification, the company is positioning itself for enhanced profitability and reduced volatility in the coming years. The focus on improving capacity utilization and expanding export capabilities further reinforces its commitment to disciplined execution and long-term value creation for stakeholders.
