Why did Elin Electronics report a first-half standalone loss?
Elin Electronics reported the first-half loss because exceptional expenses of Rs 24.397 crore turned a pre-exceptional profit before tax of Rs 47 lakh into a loss before tax of Rs 24.350 crore for the half year ended September 30, 2026. In the corresponding six months of 2025, it reported profit before tax of Rs 24.156 crore and no exceptional item on the statement of results.
The post-tax outcome also changed materially year on year. Elin Electronics recorded a Rs 19.894 crore loss after tax for the 2026 half year, compared with a Rs 6.215 crore profit after tax in the half year ended September 30, 2025. A deferred-tax credit of Rs 3.861 crore was recognised in the 2026 half year, against deferred-tax expense of Rs 98.5 lakh a year earlier.
The total comprehensive result was a loss of Rs 18.810 crore for the half year ended September 30, 2026, after other comprehensive loss of Rs 21 lakh. The comparable 2025 half-year total comprehensive income was Rs 17.805 crore, including an other comprehensive loss of Rs 1.36 crore.
How did the Ghaziabad fire affect Elin Electronics' results?
The June 2026 fire damaged certain inventories, property, plant and equipment, and the factory building at Elin Electronics' Ghaziabad manufacturing facility. The company said it made an initial assessment of the incident and recognised a fire-related loss in the standalone June-quarter results as an exceptional item.
The June-quarter statement reports exceptional expense of Rs 24.658 crore, which was partly offset by exceptional income of Rs 25.8 lakh in the September 2026 quarter. Consequently, the net exceptional expense for the six months was Rs 24.397 crore. The June-quarter exceptional charge was the major factor behind the half-year loss.
A note to the standalone results states a fire-related loss of Rs 46.5 crore, while the face of the June-quarter statement shows total exceptional expense of Rs 24.658 crore. The filing does not reconcile those two disclosed amounts. It also states that the affected inventories and assets were adequately insured, but no insurance recovery had been recognised pending the insurer's final assessment and survey.
Did revenue growth offset Elin Electronics' exceptional charge?
No. Elin Electronics' revenue from operations rose by Rs 34.498 crore to Rs 540.943 crore in the half year ended September 30, 2026, from Rs 506.445 crore a year earlier, but the Rs 24.397 crore exceptional expense moved the company into a post-tax loss. Before exceptional items and tax, profit fell from Rs 24.156 crore to Rs 47 lakh.
Total income increased by Rs 41.882 crore year on year to Rs 567.339 crore. Other operating income rose to Rs 17.816 crore from Rs 14.614 crore, while other income declined to Rs 2.580 crore from Rs 4.398 crore in the same comparison.
Employee-benefit expense increased to Rs 81.014 crore from Rs 72.876 crore, and finance costs rose to Rs 4.021 crore from Rs 3.411 crore. Other expenses were Rs 40.071 crore, compared with Rs 41.013 crore a year earlier. Elin Electronics reports a single business segment, electronics manufacturing services, so the filing does not provide profitability by product, customer or operating division.

What changed between Elin Electronics' June and September quarters?
Elin Electronics returned to a modest profit in the September 2026 quarter after the June-quarter fire charge. Profit after tax was Rs 67 lakh in the quarter ended September 30, 2026, following a Rs 19.894 crore loss after tax in the quarter ended June 30, 2026.
Profit before exceptional items and tax changed from a loss of Rs 1.770 crore in June to a profit of Rs 1.817 crore in September. The exceptional result also moved from a Rs 24.658 crore expense in June to Rs 25.8 lakh of exceptional income in September, producing September-quarter profit before tax of Rs 2.075 crore.
Revenue from operations rose sequentially to Rs 279.586 crore in the September quarter from Rs 267.357 crore in the June quarter. The September-quarter profit after tax of Rs 67 lakh remained below the Rs 9.072 crore profit reported for the quarter ended September 30, 2025. Basic earnings per share for the September 2026 quarter were Rs 0.28, while diluted earnings per share for the half year were a loss of Rs 3.72.
What do Elin Electronics' cash flow and balance-sheet figures show?
Elin Electronics used Rs 28.379 crore of cash in operating activities during the half year ended September 30, 2026. The cash-flow statement records a Rs 56.669 crore increase in trade and other receivables and a Rs 24.338 crore increase in inventories, partly accompanied by a Rs 63.286 crore increase in trade and other payables.
Investing activities used Rs 24.293 crore in the six-month period, while financing activities generated Rs 9.200 crore. Cash and cash equivalents increased by Rs 5.082 crore to Rs 9.221 crore at September 30, 2026, from Rs 4.139 crore at March 31, 2026.
Current borrowings stood at Rs 20.264 crore at September 30, 2026, compared with Rs 7.039 crore at March 31, 2026. Property, plant and equipment was reported at Rs 270.996 crore at September 30, 2026. These balance-sheet and cash-flow figures are separate from the unrecognised insurance recovery related to the June fire.
Conclusion
Elin Electronics' first-half standalone result combines higher revenue with a sharp exceptional-cost impact. Revenue increased to Rs 540.943 crore from Rs 506.445 crore, but the Rs 24.397 crore net exceptional expense resulted in a Rs 19.894 crore loss after tax, compared with a Rs 6.215 crore profit in the prior-year half.
The next disclosed issue is the insurance claim for the Ghaziabad fire. Elin Electronics says the damaged assets and inventories were insured, but no recovery was recognised by September 30, 2026 because the insurer's assessment and survey remained pending. The filing also leaves unresolved the difference between the Rs 46.5 crore fire-loss amount in the note and the Rs 24.658 crore June-quarter exceptional expense shown in the statement.
