Galaxy Supermarket Limited had negative total equity of Rs 19.41 crore at September 30, 2026, while current liabilities exceeded current assets by Rs 22.05 crore, leading its statutory auditor to identify a material uncertainty that may cast significant doubt on Galaxy Supermarket’s ability to continue as a going concern.

Why did Galaxy Supermarket receive a going-concern warning?
Galaxy Supermarket received the going-concern warning because losses from previous years had eroded its entire net worth and its current liabilities exceeded current assets at September 30, 2026. Note 4 to the September-quarter results says these conditions indicate a material uncertainty that may cast significant doubt on the company’s ability to continue as a going concern.
The statutory auditor repeated that assessment in its review report dated November 2, 2026. The auditor said the conditions in Note 4, namely fully eroded net worth and current liabilities above current assets, created material uncertainty related to going concern, although its review conclusion was not modified in respect of the matter.
The filing was a limited review under Standard on Review Engagements 2410, rather than a full audit. The auditor said such an interim review consists principally of inquiries and analytical procedures and does not provide assurance that all significant matters that could arise in an audit would be identified.
How large is Galaxy Supermarket’s equity and liquidity shortfall?
Galaxy Supermarket’s current liabilities exceeded current assets by Rs 22.05 crore at September 30, 2026. Current assets were Rs 11.35 crore and current liabilities were Rs 33.40 crore, compared with Rs 8.96 crore and Rs 29.84 crore, respectively, at March 31, 2026.
The current-liability excess therefore increased from Rs 20.88 crore at March 31, 2026 to Rs 22.05 crore six months later. Total equity deteriorated to negative Rs 19.41 crore from negative Rs 18.24 crore, as other equity widened to negative Rs 69.19 crore from negative Rs 68.02 crore while equity share capital remained Rs 49.78 crore.
Trade payables were Rs 15.36 crore at September 30, 2026, up from Rs 12.33 crore at March 31, while current borrowings rose to Rs 13.92 crore from Rs 13.24 crore. Inventory rose to Rs 10.29 crore from Rs 6.96 crore, but cash and cash equivalents declined to Rs 9.46 lakh from Rs 78.13 lakh over the same period.
What did Galaxy Supermarket report for the September 2026 quarter?

Revenue from operations rose to Rs 15.02 crore from Rs 10.62 crore, but total expenses increased to Rs 15.68 crore from Rs 10.37 crore.
The company recorded a Rs 65.66 lakh loss from continuing operations in the September 2026 quarter, against a Rs 25.35 lakh profit a year earlier. Its discontinued operations added a Rs 5.99 lakh loss, compared with a Rs 23.87 lakh loss in the corresponding quarter of 2025.
For the half year ended September 30, 2026, revenue from operations rose to Rs 27.25 crore from Rs 21.23 crore in the prior-year half. However, the half-year loss from continuing operations was Rs 1.09 crore, compared with a Rs 1.12 crore profit a year earlier, and the total net loss was Rs 1.18 crore against a Rs 45.81 lakh profit.

What do Galaxy Supermarket’s cash flows show?
Galaxy Supermarket recorded a Rs 15.16 lakh net operating cash outflow in the six months ended September 30, 2026. This followed a Rs 3.33 crore cash absorption from higher inventories, partly offset by a Rs 2.88 crore increase in trade payables, other liabilities and provisions.
Investing activities used Rs 50.94 lakh in the six-month period, including Rs 51.29 lakh spent on property, plant and equipment. Financing activities used Rs 2.58 lakh, as Rs 67.91 lakh of net borrowing proceeds were more than offset by Rs 70.48 lakh of interest paid.
Cash and cash equivalents fell by Rs 68.67 lakh during the period, from Rs 78.13 lakh at the start of the financial year to Rs 9.46 lakh at September 30, 2026. The filing also shows operating cash profit before working-capital changes of Rs 30.09 lakh, compared with Rs 2.87 crore for the year ended March 31, 2026.
What is Galaxy Supermarket doing to address the uncertainty?
Galaxy Supermarket says it is working to improve operational efficiency, boost sales, reduce costs and diversify business activities through supermarket-store operations. Management says the supermarket-store initiative has the potential to generate positive cash flows and expects its measures to turn net worth positive in the near future, although the filing gives no funding commitment or timetable.
The company says it has recognised provision requirements for legacy matters related to discontinued operations. It closed its Bengaluru commissary unit on October 12, 2022, its Mumbai unit on January 31, 2024, and its Gurugram unit on September 30, 2024; the commissary division reported a Rs 8.43 lakh loss for the half year ended September 30, 2026.
A Rs 2.90 crore contingent liability concerns employees of the closed Bengaluru commissary and remains subject to negotiation. Galaxy Supermarket says it has made a full Rs 2.90 crore provision for a possible settlement and has already recorded some payments against the obligation.
The auditor also noted that Galaxy Supermarket had not recognised gratuity and leave-encashment provisions for the period ended September 30, 2026 under Indian Accounting Standard 19, or Ind AS 19. It said employee-benefit expense and related liabilities were understated to an undetermined extent, while its conclusion remained unmodified in respect of that matter.
Conclusion
Galaxy Supermarket’s September 30, 2026 filing combines revenue growth with a return to losses, a Rs 22.05 crore current-liability excess and negative equity of Rs 19.41 crore. The auditor’s material-uncertainty statement places those balance-sheet conditions at the centre of the company’s reported going-concern risk, despite the unmodified limited-review conclusion.
The next disclosed matters to watch are whether management’s supermarket-store initiative improves sales, costs and cash flows, and whether its stated aim of restoring positive net worth is reflected in future results. Resolution of the Rs 2.90 crore Bengaluru employee settlement and quantification of the unrecognised Ind AS 19 employee-benefit liabilities also remain pending matters in the November 2, 2026 filing.
