Phychem derives 90% of sales from roto-moulding compounds
Ask Iris
Phychem Technologies Limited derived 89.78% of FY26 revenue from roto-moulding compounds, making specialised polyethylene compounds its principal business. Colour powders generated Rs 25.7199 crore and stone-effect compounds generated Rs 13.0144 crore, together accounting for 68.60% of FY26 revenue from operations of Rs 56.4653 crore.
How concentrated are Phychem’s sales in roto-moulding compounds?
Phychem’s FY26 sales were concentrated in roto-moulding compounds, which generated Rs 50.6934 crore from total revenue from operations of Rs 56.4653 crore. Rotational moulding is a process for making hollow plastic products, and Phychem supplies powdered or granulated compounds used by moulders as a raw material. The compound category represented 89.78% of FY26 sales, compared with 93.58% in FY25 and 91.37% in FY24.
Manufacturing generated Rs 52.2931 crore, or 92.61% of FY26 sales, including Rs 1.5997 crore from custom-moulded tanks. Trading represented 7.18% of FY26 sales, while services represented 0.21%. The reported mix means that demand from rotational moulding manufacturers, rather than service income, accounts for most of Phychem’s revenue.
FY26 revenue from operations rose to Rs 56.4653 crore from Rs 50.3032 crore in FY25 and Rs 46.9693 crore in FY24. Roto-moulding compound revenue increased by Rs 3.6206 crore from FY25, although its share of sales declined by 3.80 percentage points as trading revenue increased to Rs 4.0564 crore from Rs 1.1352 crore. Continued compound concentration would depend on compound sales remaining the main contributor to revenue growth.
Which grades lead Phychem’s roto-moulding compound revenue?
Colour powders and stone-effect compounds led Phychem’s FY26 roto-moulding compound revenue, generating a combined Rs 38.7343 crore. Colour powders represented 45.55% of total FY26 sales and stone-effect compounds represented 23.05%, producing a combined 68.60% share. This shows that revenue concentration extends beyond compounds as a category to two grades within it.
Colour-powder revenue increased to Rs 25.7199 crore in FY26 from Rs 22.6571 crore in FY25 and Rs 17.7376 crore in FY24. Phychem formulates these powders with polyethylene or polypropylene base materials and customises blends for ultraviolet stability and outdoor durability. The disclosed applications include overhead tanks, portable sanitation units, road-safety barriers, fuel tanks, containers, furniture, planters, septic tanks and waste-handling products.
Stone-effect compound revenue reached Rs 13.0144 crore in FY26, compared with Rs 11.2425 crore in FY25 and Rs 10.1697 crore in FY24. These compounds provide a stone-like finish for products including plastic planters, fountains and garden furniture. By comparison, polyethylene foam compound revenue fell to Rs 8.6117 crore in FY26 from Rs 10.3768 crore in FY25, reducing its share of total sales to 15.25% from 20.63%.
Other grades were smaller contributors in FY26. Super Tuff high-density polyethylene, or HDPE, compound generated Rs 1.6199 crore, flexible compounds generated Rs 1.1704 crore, and Easy Shot Foam granules generated Rs 48.11 lakh. These grades address uses including chemical and fuel tanks, impact-resistant products and insulated products, but their reported sales were below those of the two leading grades.
How does Phychem turn polymer inputs into compounds?
Phychem produces polyethylene-based compounds by selecting resins and additives, batching materials to a formulation, blending them, pelletising them and pulverising them into powder. Its main base resins are linear low-density polyethylene, or LLDPE, and HDPE. Additives include colour masterbatches, antistatic agents, flame retardants, blowing agents, ultraviolet stabilisers and antioxidants.
The manufacturing process uses melt compounding in an extruder or dry blending for pre-coloured powders and simpler additive dispersions. Extruded material is cooled and pelletised before grinding, with a typical target mesh size of 20 to 35. Phychem tests particle-size distribution, bulk density, flowability, melt-flow index and colour consistency before packaging products in 25-kilogram woven bags.
Phychem had installed annual roto-moulding compound capacity of 6,000 metric tonnes in FY26 and FY25, compared with 4,100 metric tonnes in FY24. Actual production rose to 3,927 metric tonnes in FY26 from 3,596 metric tonnes in FY25, lifting capacity utilisation to 65.45% from 59.93%. FY24 utilisation was 76.24%, when production of 3,126 metric tonnes was measured against lower installed capacity.
What supports and limits Phychem’s specialised model?
Phychem’s specialised model is supported by direct business-to-business sales to domestic and overseas customers, but it also has measurable customer concentration. During FY26, Phychem sold to about 265 domestic customers and about 24 global customers, while about 142 customers placed repeat orders over the preceding three years. Its largest customer contributed approximately 15.73% of FY26 revenue, and the top 10 customers contributed 52.99%.
Domestic sales generated Rs 43.2975 crore, or 76.68% of FY26 revenue, while exports generated Rs 13.1678 crore, or 23.32%. Maharashtra accounted for Rs 30.8306 crore, or 54.60% of FY26 revenue, compared with 50.29% in FY25. Guinea was the largest disclosed export market at Rs 4.5037 crore, or 7.98% of FY26 revenue.
Raw-material availability is relevant because LLDPE, HDPE and functional additives are inputs to Phychem’s core compounds. Domestic purchases were Rs 43.4749 crore, or 93.22% of FY26 purchases, and imports were Rs 3.1604 crore, or 6.78%. The company imported materials from Canada, Malaysia, Thailand and the United Kingdom in FY26.
Phychem has disclosed a plan to purchase a rotational moulding machine, pulverising machine and extruder at its Nashik facility. It proposes to use Rs 5.1491 crore of net proceeds for this capital expenditure, stating that the equipment should reduce downtime when switching between mixing, blending and pulverising compounds. Phychem has also purchased raw materials for nylon-based compounds and intends to commercialise those products, although no nylon-compound revenue has been reported.
Conclusion
Phychem’s FY26 business model was principally that of a supplier to the rotational moulding industry: roto-moulding compounds contributed 89.78% of revenue, and colour powders plus stone-effect compounds contributed 68.60%. Manufacturing accounted for 92.61% of sales, showing that reported results are primarily linked to compound volumes, formulations and customer demand for moulded products.
The disclosed developments to watch are the proposed Rs 5.1491 crore machinery purchase, intended nylon-compound commercialisation and changes in capacity utilisation. FY26 compound utilisation was 65.45% against installed capacity of 6,000 metric tonnes, while the planned equipment is intended to reduce product-changeover downtime and improve throughput.
