KFin Technologies Limited retained its FY27 consolidated earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) margin target of 40% after delivering a 40% Q2 FY27 margin including Ascent, despite a market correction over the previous 10 days. Management said it could defer discretionary spending if capital-market weakness becomes prolonged.

Can KFin Tech maintain its 40% EBITDA margin target?
KFin Tech said it continues to target a consolidated FY27 EBITDA margin of 40%, including Ascent, because Q2 FY27 reached that level after Ascent’s integration. The margin excluding Ascent was 45.8% in Q2, showing the difference between the consolidated result and the pre-Ascent business profile.
Management said the target remains subject to the recent market weakness not turning into a sustained decline in capital-market activity. It said the correction had lasted about 10 days and did not require a change to estimates, but a significantly longer downturn would affect capital-markets-linked operations.
The Q2 FY27 result included a 25% profit after tax margin with Ascent and a little more than 30% without Ascent. For H1 FY27, the consolidated profit after tax margin was 23%, while diluted earnings per share stood at Rs 10.12 and cash and equivalents were about Rs 550 crore after the dividend payment.
What drove KFin Tech’s Q2 FY27 margin improvement?
KFin Tech said Q2 FY27 margin improvement came from revenue growing faster than costs, supported by cost optimisation and productivity measures. Management said revenue rose 13% sequentially while expenses increased 3%, resulting in EBITDA growth of 18.7% sequentially and 32% from the same quarter a year earlier.
The reported revenue increase was 30% sequentially including Ascent and 10% excluding Ascent. This comparison indicates that Ascent added materially to reported growth, while the business excluding the acquisition also expanded during Q2 FY27.
Management attributed the movement in EBITDA margin from about 34% to about 40% partly to scale in international operations and partly to robotic process automation and artificial-intelligence-native tools. It also said lower overall headcount had created capacity to support faster-growing businesses including wealth, alternatives and pensions, where client additions had increased.
For H1 FY27, KFin Tech reported EBITDA growth of 13.4% year on year and profit after tax growth of about 3%. The gap between EBITDA and profit-after-tax growth occurred alongside the integration of Ascent, whose Q2 EBITDA margin remained below the 45.8% margin reported for the business excluding Ascent.
How would KFin Tech protect margins in a prolonged downturn?
KFin Tech said it would protect margins by deferring discretionary technology, automation, geographic-expansion and product-launch spending if market weakness persists. Management described these as future-benefit expenditures and said some spending planned over the next five months could be released rather than incurred.
Management did not say it would halt all transformation work. It said it would prioritise the most important programmes and defer lower-priority projects into later quarters, when financial performance and market conditions permitted the expenditure to resume.
The company has several active platform programmes that could be affected by this prioritisation. KFin Tech expected next-generation platforms for issuer solutions, pensions and wealth to go live within three months, by January, and said nearly all transformation platforms should be rolled out by the end of Q4 FY27.
In mutual funds, KFin Tech said it had deployed about 30% to 35% of the total transformation use cases by Q2 FY27. It also planned a public launch of Aria.AI later in the month after its beta release, while FinEx is its mutual-fund platform project and GFS is its international-business replatforming programme.

Which businesses support KFin Tech’s FY27 outlook?
KFin Tech said growth across mutual funds, issuer solutions, pensions and international operations supports its outlook even when markets are volatile. Client assets under management (AUM) increased 15% in the quarter, ahead of 13% industry growth, and overall market share moved above 33% over the past two quarters.
Its systematic investment plan (SIP) market share was close to 37%, compared with overall market share above 33%. Management expects a bridge of about 100 basis points over three to five years as the retail SIP book contributes to AUM share, although this remains management’s expectation rather than a forecast of market performance.
Pensions grew 42% this year against industry growth of 12% to 13%, after KFin Tech grew 36% against about 12% industry growth in the previous year. Management said the pensions business broke even about three quarters earlier and has continued to grow faster than the industry.
Issuer solutions is expected by management to grow about 20% year on year for the full year, with potential for more than 20% if market conditions support large initial public offerings. Value-added services accounted for 7.5% of Q2 FY27 revenue, helped by issuer-solutions activity such as electronic annual general meetings, e-voting and other platform-based services that are typically higher in the second quarter.
Ascent also remains part of the growth plan, although 25% of its revenue comes from the Middle East. Management said Ascent grew more than 30% despite that exposure and expects it to reach double-digit EBITDA in the next couple of quarters through growth and cost optimisation.
Conclusion
KFin Tech’s retained FY27 40% EBITDA-margin target is supported by its Q2 FY27 40% consolidated margin, 13% sequential revenue growth against 3% expense growth, and management’s identified flexibility over spending planned during the next five months. The reported result also reflects a broader business mix, with international operations accounting for 20% of revenue and AUM-driven mutual-fund revenue at just under 52%.
The next issue is whether the 10-day market correction becomes long enough to reduce capital-markets activity and prompt project deferrals. Management’s disclosed milestones are the January rollout of issuer-solutions, pensions and wealth platforms, the planned end-Q4 FY27 transformation rollout, Ascent’s expected double-digit EBITDA over the next couple of quarters, and issuer-solutions growth of about 20% for the full year.
