Why did RedTape’s Q2 FY27 profit rise while revenue fell?
RedTape’s Q2 FY27 profit rose because margin expansion and cost discipline more than offset lower reported sales. Standalone EBITDA, or earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation, increased 8.2% year on year to Rs 89 crore, while profit after tax increased 27.3% to Rs 36 crore despite the 3.5% revenue decline.
RedTape said Q2 was seasonally softer and that the Big Billion Days event moved from September to October. That calendar shift transferred associated sales opportunity from Q2 into Q3, reducing revenue reported for the quarter ended September 30, 2026. Arvind Verma, Whole Time Director, said RedTape maintained margins through operating leverage and discipline across costs and channels.
The difference between earnings and revenue growth is evident in the quarterly figures: profit rose 27.3%, EBITDA rose 8.2%, and revenue declined 3.5%. RedTape also described gross margin as consistent, though its announcement did not provide a gross-margin percentage or year-on-year change.
How did RedTape perform in the first half of FY27?
RedTape reported flat standalone revenue of Rs 955 crore in H1 FY27, while EBITDA increased 12.4% to Rs 190 crore and profit after tax rose 22.7% to Rs 83 crore. EBITDA margin for the six months ended September 30, 2026 was 19.9%, an increase of 220 basis points year on year.
The H1 FY27 result shows earnings growth without reported revenue growth. The 19.9% H1 EBITDA margin was 1 percentage point above the 18.9% margin reported in Q2 FY27, although RedTape did not disclose first-quarter absolute financial figures in this announcement for a direct quarter-to-quarter comparison.
The six-month margin increase of 220 basis points exceeded the Q2 increase of 204 basis points by 16 basis points. RedTape attributed quarterly profitability to operating leverage and cost and channel discipline, while its FY27 outlook cited product and category mix as support for the operating model.
What changed in RedTape’s digital sales and channel mix?
RedTape said its online mix rebounded to about 31% in Q2 FY27 from about 22% in Q1 FY27, returning broadly to levels it described as normalised. Sales through RedTape.com increased 712% year on year during the quarter, which RedTape said showed traction on its own website.
The roughly 9-percentage-point rise in online mix between Q1 FY27 and Q2 FY27 occurred alongside the September-to-October event shift affecting reported Q2 revenue. RedTape did not disclose the rupee value of online sales, the prior-year online mix, or the share represented specifically by RedTape.com, so the 712% increase cannot be translated into an absolute sales contribution.
RedTape’s stated omnichannel plan combines digital activity with physical expansion. Management said RedTape would continue strengthening retail and digital channels during the seasonally stronger second half, when festive and winter demand is expected to support the business.

How large was RedTape’s retail network at September 30, 2026?
RedTape had 756 stores across 369 cities in 20 states and four union territories as of September 30, 2026. It added 49 EBOs and five shop-in-shops during Q2 FY27, extending its physical retail footprint during a period of lower reported revenue.
Exclusive Mega Showrooms accounted for 299 stores across 163 cities, while Exclusive Showrooms accounted for 305 stores in 233 cities. The remaining portfolio included 137 shop-in-shops, 12 factory shops and three sports outlets, bringing the format total to 756 stores.
The network occupied about 17 lakh square feet, according to RedTape’s profile. Franchisee-operated stores represented 60.90% of the store model and RedTape-operated stores 39.10%, while high-street locations represented 96.28% of the network compared with 3.72% in malls.
What is RedTape’s outlook for the rest of FY27?
RedTape said it is entering a seasonally stronger second half supported by festive and winter demand, while focusing on disciplined growth, retail and digital execution, operating efficiency and its consumer value proposition. Management said improving demand trends, the retail network and product and category mix position RedTape to pursue profitable growth through FY27.
The disclosed outlook is a management view rather than a numerical forecast: RedTape gave no revenue, margin, store-count or profit target for FY27. Its stated plan is to strengthen the RedTape brand, channel mix and operating model while expanding physical retail and developing omnichannel operations.
The calendar-related shift provides a specific factor to assess in the next reported period. Since Big Billion Days-related sales moved from September in Q2 to October in Q3, the Q3 FY27 result should show how much of the deferred sales opportunity was recognised, alongside changes in the online mix that reached about 31% in Q2.
Conclusion
RedTape’s Q2 FY27 showed a divergence between sales and earnings: revenue fell 3.5% to Rs 474 crore, but EBITDA rose 8.2% to Rs 89 crore and profit after tax rose 27.3% to Rs 36 crore. For H1 FY27, flat Rs 955 crore revenue was accompanied by 12.4% EBITDA growth and a 220-basis-point increase in EBITDA margin.
The next point to watch is RedTape’s Q3 FY27 reporting, particularly the effect of Big Billion Days sales shifting into October and management’s expectation of festive and winter demand. RedTape also plans continued retail and digital execution after adding 49 EBOs and five shop-in-shops in Q2, while RedTape.com sales rose 712% year on year.
