Ask Iris
United Breweries Ltd is scheduled to consider its unaudited standalone and consolidated financial results for the quarter and half year ended September 30, 2026, at a board meeting on October 27. The company has also revised the timing of its Q2 FY27 earnings call to 2:00 pm IST on October 28, while retaining the call date. The scheduled disclosures come after a first quarter marked by volume growth and higher sales, but weaker margins and profit because of cost pressures. Investors will be watching management commentary on demand, premium-brand growth, supply-chain costs and recovery measures.
Board meeting scheduled for October 27
United Breweries informed the BSE that its board of directors will meet on October 27, 2026. The agenda includes consideration and approval of the unaudited standalone and consolidated financial results for the quarter and year ended September 30, 2026, as stated in the company’s intimation. The September quarter is referred to as Q2 FY27 in the company’s investor communication. This scheduled meeting is the key event for shareholders awaiting the company’s latest operational and financial update. The company had earlier said it would report its Q2 FY27 results on October 27.
Earnings call timing changed to 2:00 pm
UBL has changed the timing of its Q2 FY27 financial-results earnings call to 2:00 pm IST on October 28, 2026. The company said the timing was revised to avoid an overlap with other investor calls. The date of the call has not changed. Such calls generally provide management’s comments on quarterly performance, costs, demand conditions and outlook. The revised schedule gives investors a defined window to assess the company’s results announcement and subsequent management discussion.
Q1 sales growth was supported by higher volumes
In Q1 FY27, UBL reported standalone net sales of ₹3,064.9 crore, up 7% year on year, according to Motilal Oswal Financial Services. This was 1.8% below the brokerage’s estimate of ₹3,120 crore. Volume growth stood at 9%, ahead of the brokerage’s 8% expectation. The beer industry grew around 13% year on year during the quarter, helped by a favourable summer, premiumisation and regulatory reforms, according to the brokerage note. Management has maintained its FY27 expectation of high-single-digit volume growth and double-digit revenue growth.
Costs weighed on first-quarter margins
Gross margin in Q1 FY27 declined 160 basis points year on year to 41.0%. EBITDA fell 9% to ₹282.7 crore, while the EBITDA margin stood at 9.2%, down 160 basis points from a year earlier. However, the margin improved from 6.2% in Q4 FY26. Packaging, logistics and foreign-exchange costs increased amid Middle East-related disruption, according to the brokerage assessment. Employee expenses rose 9% and other expenses increased 7% year on year.
Management cited geopolitical cost pressure
Management estimated that the Middle East conflict created an approximately 300-basis-point margin headwind through packaging, logistics, foreign exchange and supply-chain costs. It estimated the FY27 geopolitical cost impact at ₹350 crore to ₹400 crore, lower than its previous estimate of ₹400 crore to ₹500 crore. The company said recovery initiatives delivered more than ₹50 crore, offsetting about half of the inflationary impact through pricing, procurement and productivity actions. Separately, consolidated net profit for the June quarter was reported at ₹166.28 crore, down 9.64% year on year, as higher expenses affected margins. These cost trends will remain central to the Q2 discussion.
Premium brands remain a demand driver
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Vivek Gupta said the company saw positive demand momentum in the first two months of the ongoing September quarter. UBL has maintained its FY27 outlook of double-digit revenue growth, with its premium brands portfolio expected to grow more than 20%. The company has expanded Heineken Silver into Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Kerala. Gupta said the brand was growing at more than 40% nationally. The expansion shows the company’s continued focus on premiumisation as a contributor to growth.
Maharashtra canning investment adds capacity
UBL has announced a ₹110 crore investment to commission a canning line at its Maharashtra brewery. The disclosed investment comes alongside the company’s focus on premium brands and its stated demand momentum. Canning capacity can support product availability where consumer demand is moving toward cans, although the company’s announcement did not provide a commissioning date or production capacity. The investment will be another point of interest when the company discusses capital expenditure and operational priorities. Investors will also assess whether capacity additions are matched by sustained volume growth.
Financial snapshot and investor focus
Motilal Oswal retained a Neutral rating after UBL’s August 5, 2026 results update. Its FY27 estimates included revenue of ₹10,415.8 crore, EBITDA of ₹970.2 crore and adjusted profit after tax of ₹517.7 crore. The brokerage broadly retained its FY27 and FY28 earnings estimates, while raising adjusted profit estimates by 0.4% for FY27 and 2.3% for FY28. For the reported Q1 period, other income was ₹50.6 crore, compared with the brokerage estimate of ₹15 crore. The upcoming Q2 disclosures will provide updated data on whether pricing, procurement and productivity actions continue to mitigate cost inflation.
What the Q2 update will clarify
The October 27 board meeting and October 28 earnings call will provide the next formal update on UBL’s September-quarter performance. The central issues are sales and volume growth, premium portfolio momentum, margins and the financial effect of higher packaging, logistics and foreign-exchange costs. Management’s comments on the ₹350 crore to ₹400 crore FY27 geopolitical cost estimate will also be relevant. The company has already communicated positive momentum in the first two months of the quarter and kept its FY27 growth outlook unchanged. The reported results and management call will determine how these trends developed through the full quarter.
