Why did UTL Industries post a first-half loss?
UTL Industries posted a Rs 4.80 lakh loss before tax for the half year ended September 30, 2026, reversing from a Rs 12.41 lakh profit before tax in the corresponding 2025 half year. The reported loss for the period was also Rs 4.80 lakh, as the financial statement did not show a current-tax charge for the six months to September 2026.
The change between the two half years was Rs 17.21 lakh. UTL Industries reported no exceptional items in either half-year comparison, meaning the movement in profit before tax reflected the reported operating-segment outcomes rather than an exceptional gain or charge.
The second quarter partly offset the first-quarter loss. UTL Industries reported profit before tax of Rs 1.63 lakh in the quarter ended September 30, 2026, after a Rs 6.43 lakh loss before tax in the quarter ended June 30, 2026. The September-quarter profit was nevertheless below the Rs 4.44 lakh profit before tax reported for the quarter ended September 30, 2025.
How far did UTL Industries revenue fall in the first half?
UTL Industries’ revenue from operations fell by Rs 16.53 lakh to Rs 4.35 lakh in the half year ended September 30, 2026 from Rs 20.88 lakh in the corresponding 2025 period. The segment disclosure assigned the full Rs 4.35 lakh of first-half revenue to SMS Services, while Construction reported no revenue.
SMS Services revenue was Rs 2.90 lakh in the September 2026 quarter, up from Rs 1.45 lakh in the June 2026 quarter. The September-quarter figure was, however, Rs 1.53 lakh below the Rs 4.43 lakh reported in the quarter ended September 30, 2025.
UTL Industries’ statement of profit and loss recorded total income of Rs 4.85 lakh for the half year ended September 30, 2026, including Rs 0.50 lakh of other income. Revenue from operations was Rs 4.35 lakh, so the difference between total income and segment revenue was the reported other-income amount.
The full-year comparison also shows the scale of the lower first-half revenue. UTL Industries reported Rs 26.84 lakh of revenue for the year ended March 31, 2026, all attributed to SMS Services in the segment disclosure. The company did not disclose a revenue target or forecast for the remainder of the year in its November 5 announcement.

Its revenue declined to Rs 4.35 lakh from Rs 20.88 lakh over the same periods, making the lower SMS Services contribution the principal reported change in the group result.
Construction posted a Rs 5.27 lakh segment loss in the 2026 half year, compared with a Rs 5.24 lakh loss in the prior-year half. The segment had no reported revenue in either period, and its loss widened by Rs 0.03 lakh year on year.

UTL Industries identifies Construction and SMS Services as its two operating segments under Indian Accounting Standard 108, or Ind AS 108. The company said it reports separate segment information where segment revenue is 10% or more of combined operating-segment revenue; for the first half, SMS Services was the only segment with reported revenue.
What did UTL Industries’ September balance sheet show?
UTL Industries reported total assets of Rs 4.40 crore at September 30, 2026, compared with Rs 4.35 crore at March 31, 2025 in its statement of assets and liabilities. Current assets were Rs 4.40 crore at September 30, 2026, while non-current assets were Rs 0.26 lakh.
The segment statement allocated Rs 4.36 crore of assets to Construction, Rs 4.19 lakh to SMS Services and Rs 0.27 lakh to other assets at September 30, 2026. Construction therefore held nearly all segment assets despite reporting no revenue in the first half.
Equity share capital was Rs 3.30 crore at September 30, 2026 and reserves and surplus were Rs 51.56 lakh. Current liabilities stood at Rs 29.18 lakh, including unsecured loans of Rs 16.56 lakh and trade payables of Rs 11.92 lakh.
Cash and cash equivalents were Rs 3.19 lakh at September 30, 2026, compared with Rs 1.76 lakh at March 31, 2025 in the balance-sheet statement. The cash-flow statement separately reported cash and cash equivalents at the end of the September 2026 period of Rs 3.49 lakh, and noted that figures were rounded to the nearest lakh.
Conclusion
UTL Industries’ first-half result combined a sharp fall in SMS Services revenue with a continued Construction loss. Revenue from operations fell to Rs 4.35 lakh, SMS Services’ segment profit declined to Rs 0.48 lakh and Construction recorded a Rs 5.27 lakh loss, producing an overall Rs 4.80 lakh loss instead of the prior-year Rs 12.41 lakh profit.
The September 2026 quarter showed Rs 2.90 lakh of SMS Services revenue and Rs 1.63 lakh of profit before tax after the June-quarter loss. What remains unresolved in the filing is whether that quarterly improvement can continue, as UTL Industries disclosed no revenue target, turnaround plan, dividend proposal or future operating event in the November 5, 2026 announcement.
