Why did VCU Data report a Q2 loss?
VCU Data reported a Rs 8.72 lakh loss after tax because expenses were Rs 71.17 lakh, compared with total revenue of Rs 62.45 lakh, in the three months ended 30 September 2026. Loss before tax was Rs 8.71 lakh, with a Rs 1,000 deferred-tax expense taking the final loss marginally higher. The statement reported no exceptional or extraordinary items for the quarter.
The September-quarter outcome differed from the three months ended 30 September 2025, when VCU Data recorded total revenue of Rs 6.73 lakh, total expenses of Rs 6.13 lakh and profit after tax of Rs 44,000. Revenue rose by Rs 55.72 lakh year on year, reflecting Rs 61.06 lakh in operating revenue in the latest quarter, but expenses increased by Rs 65.04 lakh, resulting in the loss.
VCU Data had also reported a Rs 2.45 lakh loss in the preceding quarter ended 30 June 2026, during which the statement showed neither operating revenue nor other income. For the half year ended 30 September 2026, total revenue was Rs 62.45 lakh and loss after tax was Rs 11.17 lakh, against Rs 12.38 lakh of revenue and a Rs 77,000 profit after tax in the prior-year half.
Which expenses exceeded VCU Data's revenue?
VCU Data's largest September-quarter cost line was Rs 77.84 lakh for purchases of stock-in-trade. A negative Rs 19.13 lakh change in inventories reduced the expense total, leaving total expenses at Rs 71.17 lakh. The filing does not provide a product, customer or business-line split of the Rs 61.06 lakh revenue from operations because VCU Data disclosed one reportable business and geographic segment.
Other expenses were Rs 10.05 lakh in the September 2026 quarter, up from Rs 2.46 lakh a year earlier. Employee-benefit expense was Rs 1.29 lakh versus Rs 1.40 lakh, operating expenses fell to Rs 80,000 from Rs 1.91 lakh, and depreciation and amortisation increased to Rs 57,000 from Rs 31,000. Finance cost was a negative Rs 25,000, compared with Rs 5,000 in the year-earlier quarter.
For the six months ended 30 September 2026, purchases of stock-in-trade remained Rs 77.84 lakh and other expenses were Rs 11.15 lakh, compared with no reported stock purchases and Rs 5.27 lakh of other expenses a year earlier. The half-year inventory change was negative Rs 18.10 lakh, while employee-benefit expense declined to Rs 1.29 lakh from Rs 2.30 lakh and finance cost declined to Rs 4,000 from Rs 57,000.

The report also said the review involved enquiries and analytical procedures and did not constitute an audit opinion.
Conclusion
VCU Data generated Rs 61.06 lakh of operating revenue in the September 2026 quarter, but purchases of stock-in-trade, other costs and total expenses of Rs 71.17 lakh produced a Rs 8.72 lakh loss. The six-month result changed from a Rs 77,000 profit a year earlier to a Rs 11.17 lakh loss, while inventories, current liabilities and non-current borrowings increased.
The next disclosed result will indicate whether VCU Data reports operating revenue after the Rs 61.06 lakh September-quarter contribution and whether its Rs 18.10 lakh inventory balance converts into sales or cash. The filing identifies Rs 50 lakh of new long-term borrowings and Rs 47.52 lakh of operating cash use, but provides no management target or operating plan for these items.
