GMR Power and Urban Infra Limited (GPUIL) is an Indian infrastructure conglomerate focused on energy generation (coal, gas, hydro and renewables), smart metering and distribution, highways and EPC, and urban infrastructure including a Special Investment Region; it was demerged into GPUIL structure and operates a sizable portfolio of thermal and developing hydro assets alongside new renewable initiatives.

GPUIL reported consolidated total income of INR 20.0bn in Q3FY26, up 14% YoY, driven materially by smart-meter revenue which rose to INR 4.3bn in the quarter and now represents ~21.7% of consolidated income, highlighting the rapid commercialisation of its AMI programme and a shift in revenue mix toward distribution technologies.

Operationally GPUIL’s core thermal plants delivered high PLFs (Warora ~84%, Kamalanga ~83% in Q3FY26) significantly above industry private IPP averages, while the company reduced net debt materially (net debt down QoQ after receipt of INR 11.4bn from Haryana DISCOM), showing simultaneous operational efficiency and balance-sheet repair amid one-off exceptional items affecting PAT.

Strategically GPUIL is transitioning to 'GPUIL 2.0' with immediate focus on scaling smart metering and smart mobility (EV charging), and a medium-term pivot to renewable energy, hybrid supply and monetisation of urban infra land assets, suggesting a deliberate diversification away from legacy thermal concentration toward distributed energy and infrastructure adjacencies.
