The Adani Group has announced a direct investment of $100 billion to be deployed by 2035, aimed at developing one of the world's largest integrated energy and compute infrastructures. This initiative will focus on building renewable-energy-powered, hyperscale AI-ready data centers across India. The primary objective is to establish a long-term sovereign energy and compute platform that positions India as a global leader in the emerging 'Intelligence Revolution'. This move signals a significant commitment to building a self-reliant technological future for the nation, integrating green energy with the intensive power demands of artificial intelligence.
The group's direct investment of $100 billion is projected to be a catalyst for broader economic activity. It is expected to attract an additional $150 billion in investments across related sectors by 2035. This includes server manufacturing, the development of advanced electrical infrastructure, the establishment of sovereign cloud platforms, and the growth of supporting industries. Together, these investments are projected to create a comprehensive $150 billion AI infrastructure ecosystem in India over the next decade, fostering innovation and economic growth on a national scale.
Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, described the current global shift as an 'Intelligence Revolution' more profound than any previous industrial revolution. He emphasized that nations capable of mastering the symmetry between energy and compute will define the coming decade. According to Adani, India is uniquely positioned to lead this charge. The group's strategy is not just to consume AI technologies but to become creators, builders, and exporters of intelligence, leveraging a full-stack AI infrastructure built on a foundation of technological sovereignty.
The strategic roadmap builds upon the existing 2 GW national data center platform of AdaniConnex, a joint venture with EdgeConneX. The new investment will scale this capacity toward a 5 GW target. This expansion will create one of the world's largest integrated data center platforms, combining renewable power generation, high-voltage transmission infrastructure, and hyperscale AI compute capabilities within a single, coordinated architecture. The facilities will be engineered to support high-density compute clusters and next-generation AI workloads through advanced liquid cooling systems and high-efficiency power designs.
This ambitious vision is anchored by landmark partnerships with some of the world's leading technology companies. Adani Group is collaborating with Google to establish a gigawatt-scale AI data center campus in Visakhapatnam, with additional campuses planned in Noida. The partnership with Microsoft extends across key technology hubs, including Hyderabad and Pune. Furthermore, the group is deepening its collaboration with Flipkart to develop a second, purpose-built AI data center designed to support the e-commerce giant's next-generation digital commerce, high-performance computing, and large-scale AI workloads. Discussions are also underway with other major global players to establish more large-scale campuses.
A core principle of the initiative is to ensure India's technological and data sovereignty. A significant portion of the newly created GPU capacity will be reserved for Indian AI startups, research institutions, and deep-tech innovators. This move aims to address the scarcity of high-performance computing resources in the country and accelerate the growth of the domestic AI ecosystem. The infrastructure will also provide dedicated compute capacity for the development of Indian Large Language Models (LLMs) and support national data initiatives.
To mitigate risks associated with global supply-chain volatility, the Adani Group plans to co-invest in the domestic manufacturing of critical infrastructure components. This includes high-capacity transformers, advanced power electronics, grid systems, inverters, and industrial thermal management solutions. By fostering a local manufacturing ecosystem, the initiative aligns with India's national priority of 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' (Self-Reliant India), positioning the country as both a data hub and a producer of next-generation compute infrastructure.
The entire AI infrastructure will be powered by green energy, a key differentiator in a power-intensive industry. The energy supply will be anchored by Adani Green Energy's 30 GW renewable energy project in Khavda, Gujarat, of which over 10 GW is already operational. The group has also committed an additional $15 billion to expand its renewable energy portfolio, which includes investments in large-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) to ensure grid stability and provide round-the-clock power for the data centers.
Recognizing that advanced infrastructure requires a skilled workforce, the Adani Group will collaborate with leading academic institutions. The plan includes creating specialized AI Infrastructure Engineering programs, establishing applied AI research labs focused on energy and logistics, and launching national fellowship initiatives. These efforts are designed to strengthen India's specialized AI talent pool and build the human capital necessary to operate and innovate within this new energy-compute ecosystem.
The Adani Group's $100 billion commitment represents a strategic and ambitious step toward securing India's place in the global AI landscape. By integrating massive renewable energy generation with hyperscale compute infrastructure, the initiative addresses the critical challenge of powering AI sustainably. This long-term vision not only aims to build a sovereign AI backbone but also to create a comprehensive ecosystem that fosters domestic manufacturing, innovation, and talent development, setting the stage for India to become a significant builder and exporter of intelligence in the coming decade.
