Why was Digicontent's Q2 profit lower than a year earlier?
Digicontent's profit after tax was lower than a year earlier because the increase in total expenses exceeded the increase in revenue. Revenue from operations was Rs 1.02 crore above the Rs 131.79 crore reported for the quarter ended September 30, 2025, but total expenses rose by Rs 6.38 crore to Rs 126.70 crore and total income fell by Rs 67 lakh to Rs 133.26 crore.
Other expenses increased to Rs 66.28 crore from Rs 56.28 crore in the September 2025 quarter, a rise of Rs 10 crore. That movement was partly offset by employee-benefit expense falling by Rs 3.03 crore to Rs 56.15 crore and finance costs declining by Rs 52 lakh to Rs 2.37 crore. Depreciation and amortisation expense also declined by Rs 7 lakh to Rs 1.90 crore.

Digicontent obtained board approval on October 1, 2026 to assign or transfer the domain and intellectual-property rights associated with its FabPlay in-store music business for Rs 1 crore. The arrangement was not reflected in the September 30 results because approval came after the reporting quarter. The Rs 5 lakh received as of September 30 was classified as an advance within contract liabilities.
Digicontent also allotted 1,40,85,571 preferential warrants on September 3, 2026 at an issue price of Rs 26.41 each, aggregating to Rs 37.20 crore. Proposed allottees had paid 25% of the warrant issue price, or Rs 9.30 crore. Each warrant entitles its holder to subscribe to one fully paid equity share with a face value of Rs 2 after payment of the remaining 75%, subject to the disclosed terms and conditions.
Conclusion
Digicontent's September-quarter result marked a return to consolidated profitability after the June-quarter loss, with revenue rising to Rs 132.81 crore and EBITDA reaching Rs 10.83 crore. The year-on-year comparison nevertheless showed lower profit after tax of Rs 4.27 crore versus Rs 9.52 crore, as the Rs 10 crore increase in other expenses outweighed the modest rise in revenue and lower employee and finance costs.
The next disclosed matters to watch are the planned Rs 1 crore FabPlay domain and intellectual-property transfer, which was not recognised by September 30, and the potential conversion of the Rs 37.20 crore preferential warrant issue after holders pay the outstanding 75%. Future results will also show whether revenue growth can absorb the Rs 132.18 crore of other expenses reported for the six months ended September 30, 2026.
