What happened to EPL Europe revenue and EBITDA in Q2FY27?
EPL Europe increased revenue by Rs 81.7 crore in Q2FY27, reaching Rs 350.7 crore from Rs 269 crore in Q2FY26. EPL attributed regional revenue growth to robust demand and a promising Beauty & Cosmetics, or B&C, pipeline. However, EBITDA fell by Rs 1.1 crore to Rs 36.4 crore from Rs 37.5 crore despite the higher sales.
The divergence continued below EBITDA, or earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation. Europe’s EBIT, or earnings before interest and tax, declined 42.4% to Rs 9.1 crore in Q2FY27 from Rs 15.8 crore a year earlier. Its EBITDA margin fell 3.5 percentage points to 10.4%, while its EBIT margin decreased 3.3 percentage points to 2.6%.
The margin movement shows that Europe did not obtain operating leverage from its 30.4% revenue increase in Q2FY27. EBITDA margin declined from 13.9% to 10.4%, and the 2.6% EBIT margin was less than half the 5.9% recorded in Q2FY26. The Rs 6.7 crore reduction in EBIT was substantially larger than the Rs 1.1 crore EBITDA decline.
Why did EPL Europe profitability decline despite higher sales?
EPL said Europe’s profitability in Q2FY27 remained affected by “deeper than expected” operational challenges. It also said continued ahead-of-the-curve growth investments affected profitability, while robust demand and the B&C pipeline supported revenue. The presentation does not quantify the respective effects of the operational issues and investments on the Rs 36.4 crore EBITDA result.
The disclosed Q2FY27 figures show the scale of the mismatch: Europe added Rs 81.7 crore in revenue but produced Rs 1.1 crore less EBITDA than in Q2FY26. The 3.5-percentage-point EBITDA-margin decline indicates that operating issues and investment costs absorbed more than the contribution from the additional revenue during the quarter.
EPL said corrective actions are underway and expects European margins to recover progressively over the next three to four quarters. This is management’s expectation, rather than a reported outcome, and the presentation gives no margin target, cost-saving figure or detail on the operational actions. Subsequent quarterly EBITDA and margin disclosures will show whether the recovery begins from the Q2FY27 margin of 10.4%.

How did EPL Europe compare with other regions in Q2FY27?
Europe was the only one of EPL’s four reported regions to record an EBITDA decline in Q2FY27. AMESA reported EBITDA growth of 23.9% to Rs 93.3 crore, EAP reported growth of 28.7% to Rs 85.2 crore, and the Americas reported growth of 16.9% to Rs 85.7 crore. Europe’s EBITDA instead fell 2.9% to Rs 36.4 crore.
Revenue increased in all four regions during Q2FY27. Europe’s 30.4% growth exceeded AMESA’s 28.0% and the Americas’ 25.3%, but was below EAP’s 40.2%. Europe’s Rs 350.7 crore revenue was also below AMESA’s Rs 499.7 crore, the Americas’ Rs 440 crore and EAP’s Rs 413.8 crore.
Europe had the lowest EBITDA margin among the four regions at 10.4% in Q2FY27. AMESA reported 18.7%, EAP reported 20.6%, and the Americas reported 19.5%. All four regions reported lower margins than in Q2FY26, but Europe’s 3.5-percentage-point decline exceeded the 0.6-point decline in AMESA, 1.8-point decline in EAP and 1.4-point decline in the Americas.
What role does EPL Europe play in the group footprint?
EPL identifies Europe as 23% of annual revenue, supported by three plants and about 600 employees. The region includes operations in Germany, Poland and the UK, within EPL’s footprint of 21 manufacturing facilities across 11 countries. EPL also says it supplies more than 9 billion tubes annually.
EPL serves Oral, Beauty & Cosmetics, Pharma, Home and Industrial categories. Its Europe commentary for Q2FY27 specifically cited robust demand and a promising B&C pipeline, while EPL refers to all non-oral categories as Personal care & Beyond. The presentation does not disclose Europe’s category-level revenue, tube volume or customer mix within the Rs 350.7 crore quarterly revenue total.
EPL’s wider plan calls for continued double-digit revenue growth through an aggressive B&C strategy, Brazil scale-up, Thailand expansion and mergers and acquisitions. It targets return on capital employed, or ROCE, of more than 25% by FY29, compared with 18.2% in Q2FY27. EPL does not disclose a Europe-specific ROCE target or allocate the group target by region.
Conclusion
Europe delivered substantial Q2FY27 revenue growth, with sales rising 30.4% to Rs 350.7 crore, but operational challenges and growth investments coincided with EBITDA falling 2.9% to Rs 36.4 crore. Among EPL’s four reported regions, Europe had both the only EBITDA decline and the lowest EBITDA margin, at 10.4%.
The next item to watch is EPL’s expectation that European margins will recover progressively over the next three to four quarters after corrective actions. EPL has not disclosed a margin target or quantified cost benefit, so future quarterly revenue, EBITDA and EBIT margins will indicate whether the gap between Europe’s sales growth and profitability is narrowing.
