Why did Fractal Alpha report a wider loss?
Fractal Alpha reported a Rs 11.2 crore segment loss in the September 2026 quarter, compared with a Rs 8.7 crore loss in the September 2025 quarter, while revenue increased by Rs 9.7 crore to Rs 34 crore. The filing does not provide an expense-level bridge for the segment, so it does not identify the specific costs, investments or operating factors that caused the year-on-year widening.
The sequential comparison was different. Fractal Alpha’s loss narrowed by Rs 3.6 crore from Rs 14.8 crore in the three months ended June 30, 2026, as revenue increased by Rs 10 crore from Rs 24 crore. The reported segment result is presented before separately reported items including the group’s share of associate loss, other income, finance costs, depreciation and amortisation, exceptional items and tax.
The figures show that Fractal Alpha’s higher September-quarter revenue did not prevent a larger loss than a year earlier, although its result improved from June 2026. Fractal Alpha and Fractal.ai are reported as distinct operating segments, but the filing says both collaborate to create products-and-services solutions for clients in artificial intelligence services and software markets.
How much did Fractal Alpha revenue grow?
Fractal Alpha generated Rs 34 crore of revenue in the September 2026 quarter, up 40% from Rs 24.3 crore in the corresponding quarter of 2025 and 42% from Rs 24 crore in June 2026. For the six months ended September 30, 2026, revenue rose about 31% to Rs 58 crore from Rs 44.4 crore in the prior-year period.
Fractal Alpha’s six-month revenue gain was Rs 13.6 crore, while Fractal.ai’s revenue increased by Rs 313 crore to Rs 1,830.3 crore over the same periods. The group reported total segment revenue of Rs 1,888.3 crore for the six months ended September 30, 2026 before Rs 19.3 crore of intersegment eliminations, resulting in consolidated revenue from operations of Rs 1,869 crore.
Intersegment eliminations were Rs 13.6 crore in the September 2026 quarter, compared with Rs 5.7 crore in June 2026 and Rs 1.6 crore a year earlier. These eliminations mean the segment revenue figures should not be added without adjusting for transactions between segments. The filing does not disclose customer numbers, bookings, product-level sales or geographic revenue for Fractal Alpha.
How does Fractal Alpha compare with Fractal.ai?

What changed in Fractal Alpha’s segment reporting?
Fractal Alpha’s comparative results were restated after the transfer of the FAA, Edtech and Iqigai businesses from Fractal.ai to Fractal Alpha, effective May 1, 2026. The board had approved the transfer on March 20, 2026 to Analytics Vidhya Educon Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary.
The filing says prior periods and the prior financial year were restated for comparative purposes because the transferred businesses moved between reportable segments. For the year ended March 31, 2026, the restated disclosure shows Fractal Alpha revenue of Rs 90.1 crore and a segment loss of Rs 34.8 crore, while Fractal.ai reported revenue of Rs 3,216.5 crore and a segment result of Rs 558.7 crore.
The group identifies its chief executive officer as the chief operating decision maker, or CODM, under Indian Accounting Standard 108 on operating segments. The CODM allocates resources based on performance indicators disclosed for Fractal.ai and Fractal Alpha, according to the September 2026 results.
How much IPO funding remains for Fractal Alpha?
Fractal Alpha had Rs 284 crore of unutilised initial public offering, or IPO, proceeds at September 30, 2026 from a Rs 355.1 crore allocation for research and development and sales and marketing. The group reported using Rs 71.1 crore under that object by the period end.
The group’s total IPO proceeds earmarked for disclosed uses were Rs 959.3 crore, of which Rs 351.5 crore had been utilised and Rs 607.8 crore remained unutilised at September 30, 2026. Other disclosed uses included Rs 264.9 crore for investment in Fractal USA to prepay or repay borrowings, which had been fully utilised.
The remaining Rs 284 crore is a disclosed funding allocation rather than a revenue or profitability forecast. The filing gives no target date for using that amount and no target for Fractal Alpha to reduce its segment loss. It also lists Rs 121.1 crore for new office premises in India and Rs 161.1 crore for inorganic growth and general corporate purposes, both unutilised at September 30, 2026.
Conclusion
Fractal Alpha increased September-quarter revenue to Rs 34 crore and reduced its loss from the June 2026 quarter, but its Rs 11.2 crore loss remained Rs 2.5 crore wider than in September 2025. Fractal.ai generated a Rs 161.3 crore segment result in the quarter, contrasting with Fractal Alpha’s deficit and accounting for most of the reported segment-result contribution.
The next disclosures to watch are the use of Rs 284 crore still allocated to Fractal Alpha research and development and sales and marketing, and whether later reporting periods show further movement in its segment revenue and loss. Comparisons should also take account of the May 1, 2026 transfer of FAA, Edtech and Iqigai, which led to restatement of earlier segment figures.
