IFB Industries Limited’s premium Inverter range contributed 41% of Top Load washing-machine sales in Q2 FY27, six months after its introduction, while the contribution from machines above 8 kg more than doubled from the comparable prior-year period. The product mix shift is central to IFB’s premiumisation plan amid margin pressure from commodities and foreign exchange.

How significant is IFB’s premium Inverter Top Load range?
IFB’s premium Inverter range accounted for 41% of Top Load washing-machine sales in Q2 FY27, within six months of launch. IFB said the range combines higher capacities with Inverter technology, contemporary design and premium features, and management described the result as increasing acceptance of its premium products.
IFB is building its Top Load proposition around its 11 kg and 12 kg range. The company said it plans to expand its above-10 kg portfolio and target Wi-Fi enablement across the range, combining larger capacities, intelligent connectivity and premium aesthetics in the smart Top Load washing-machine segment.
The change extends beyond the Inverter range. IFB said the contribution of Top Load machines above 8 kg more than doubled compared with the same time last year, although it did not disclose the absolute share or unit-sales base. The company is also using Steam and Wi-Fi connectivity in Top Load products to improve the mix of feature-led models.
Why is IFB prioritising premium appliances in Q2 FY27?
IFB is prioritising premium appliances because commodity inflation, adverse foreign-exchange movements and a partial shift of festive demand to November affected profitability in Q2 FY27. Management said consumer demand for higher-capacity and feature-rich products creates an opportunity to improve average selling prices and support profitable growth.
Home Appliances Division revenue increased 10.7% year on year to Rs 1,173.88 crore in Q2 FY27, from Rs 1,060.43 crore in Q2 FY26. However, profit before depreciation, interest and tax, or PBDIT, declined to Rs 50.30 crore from Rs 71.73 crore, while PBDIT margin fell by 248 basis points to 4.28% from 6.76%.
For the first half, IFB reported Rs 71 crore of material-cost innovation, against Rs 92 crore of commodity-cost increases and Rs 49 crore of foreign-exchange impact. The company said it took calibrated price increases in selected categories, while stock-keeping unit, or SKU, rationalisation and portfolio optimisation were intended to reduce complexity and focus on identified key products.
How is IFB differentiating its washing-machine portfolio?
IFB is differentiating its washing-machine portfolio through capacity, fabric-care technology, steam and connectivity. In Front Load machines, IFB said the market’s shift to higher-capacity products produced approximately 40% segment growth in Q2 FY27, and its response includes Smart and Auto Dosing technology as well as premium aesthetics.
Every IFB Front Load washing machine now offers the company’s 2-in-1 Washer Refresher proposition, allowing users to wash or refresh garments in one appliance. The Steam Refresh function is aimed at lightly worn clothes, and IFB said its festive-season communication would focus on refreshing festive wear rather than repeatedly washing it.
The Top Load and Front Load approaches use different product features but have a common commercial objective. Top Load products are centred on 11 kg and 12 kg capacity, Steam, Inverter technology and planned Wi-Fi coverage, while Front Load models emphasise Smart technology, Auto Dosing and refreshing functions to drive premiumisation and improve realisation.

Which other categories are included in IFB’s premiumisation plan?
IFB is applying premiumisation across air conditioners, microwave ovens, dishwashers, refrigerators and kitchen appliances. For Q3 and Q4, management said it would seek to increase air-conditioner placement, market penetration and the contribution from high-end hot-and-cold products during the seasonally stronger demand period.
IFB’s air-conditioner range includes 3-Star, 4-Star and 5-Star variants with AI Climate Control and Direct Voice Command. The company said its hot-and-cold products are designed to cool at ambient temperatures of 52°C and heat at minus 15°C, while its second-half plan includes improving dealer stock availability, retail visibility and product demonstrations.
Microwave-oven industry volumes fell 10% in Q2 FY27, but IFB reported 4% value growth and retained its No. 2 position. It had 10 Air Fry Microwave SKUs in the market and said another six would be available by Q3, converting its Convection Microwave portfolio to Air Fry; IFB also introduced a 32-litre premium Solo model.
What do dishwashers and adjacent businesses add to IFB’s strategy?
IFB reported 21% dishwasher volume growth in Q2 FY27, which it said marginally outperformed market growth. Its focus is on the high-capacity 15-place and 16-place-setting segment, supported by features including Magic Tray, Max Reach Nozzle, Turbo Zone, Hydro Boost, Interior LED Lighting and Easy Glide Rails.
In refrigerators, IFB is increasing the proportion of Frost Free and higher-star-rated Direct Cool models. In kitchen appliances, it introduced premium T-shaped brushless direct current, or BLDC, chimneys with 1,800 cubic metres per hour suction capacity and a 3D suction design, linking appliance performance and design with higher-value sales.
Commercial appliances provide a separate capacity-led example. Industrial Laundry grew 26% year on year in Q2 FY27 after platform migration across 11 kg, 15 kg and 30 kg models, while a 60 kg washer remained under validation. Commercial dishwashing grew 31% year on year, supported by Thermo-label Conveyor deliveries and greater engagement with kitchen consultants and distributors.
Conclusion
IFB’s 41% contribution from its six-month-old premium Inverter Top Load range and the more-than-doubled contribution of washers above 8 kg indicate a measurable shift toward larger, feature-led products. That shift is occurring while Home Appliances Division revenue rose 10.7% but PBDIT margin declined to 4.28% from 6.76% in Q2 FY27, reflecting the cost and foreign-exchange pressures identified by management.
The next measures to watch are IFB’s planned expansion of above-10 kg and Wi-Fi-enabled Top Load products, the availability of six additional Air Fry Microwave SKUs by Q3, and air-conditioner demand in the second half. Management’s stated cost actions, selected price increases and portfolio optimisation will also be relevant after the first-half Rs 92 crore commodity-cost increase and Rs 49 crore foreign-exchange impact.
