Results, valuation, peers and who's buying, in one view.
IndiGrid Infrastructure Trust has reported strong operating metrics from its battery energy storage system portfolio in the first quarter of FY27. Its two operational projects recorded weighted average availability of 98.39%, above the contractual requirement of 95%. Weighted average round-trip efficiency was 88.44%, exceeding the required 85%. The figures cover the Kilokari BESS project in Delhi and Gujarat BESS Private Limited, or GBPL, in Sanand, Gujarat. Together, the assets provide 200 MW of power capacity and 400 MWh of energy storage capacity. The results provide an early operating benchmark for IndiGrid’s standalone utility-scale battery portfolio.
Two projects make up the 400 MWh portfolio
The Delhi project, Kilokari BESS Private Limited or KBPL, has a capacity of 20 MW/40 MWh. It is described as India’s first regulated utility-scale standalone BESS. GBPL is a 180 MW/360 MWh asset and is described as India’s largest standalone utility-scale BESS at a single location. GBPL was fully commissioned in May 2026 at Sanand in Gujarat. KBPL achieved its commercial operation date on April 1, 2025. Both operational projects run under 12-year agreements.
Availability remains above the contracted threshold
Availability measures the proportion of time an asset is ready to provide its contracted service. IndiGrid’s weighted average availability of 98.39% was 3.39 percentage points higher than the 95% contractual requirement. For a storage portfolio operating under long-term service arrangements, this metric is important because the assets are required to be available when grid operators need them. The reported performance applies to the first quarter of FY27. IndiGrid has not provided a project-wise availability split in the information available. The combined metric nevertheless covers the larger Gujarat facility as well as the Delhi installation.
Round-trip efficiency also exceeds requirement
Round-trip efficiency indicates the share of electricity recovered after energy is stored and later discharged. IndiGrid reported weighted average round-trip efficiency of 88.44%, compared with a contractual requirement of 85%. This represents an outperformance of 3.44 percentage points against the agreed threshold. The metric is relevant to the ability of a BESS to store and return power efficiently for grid applications. The company has not disclosed separate efficiency figures for KBPL and GBPL. Its reported weighted average reflects the performance of both operational assets.

Delhi project established the first regulated asset
KBPL was awarded by BSES Rajdhani Power Limited, or BRPL, in October 2023. IndiGrid completed the project for design, supply, testing, installation, commissioning, operations and maintenance. The project connects to BRPL’s Kilokari substation and is intended to support renewable-energy integration, grid stabilisation, peak-demand management and ancillary needs. BRPL pays a fixed capacity tariff based on availability. The levelised annual tariff was reported at ₹5.76 million per MW, which is ₹0.576 crore per MW. The project’s commercial operation date was April 1, 2025.
Gujarat facility expands IndiGrid’s storage scale
GUVNL awarded the Gujarat project to IndiGrid in March 2024 through a tariff-based competitive bidding process. The battery energy storage service agreement was signed in June 2024 for a 12-year period from the scheduled commercial operation date. The project was developed under a build-own-operate model. IndiGrid subsequently completed the acquisition of Gujarat BESS Private Limited at an enterprise value of ₹573 crore from British International Investment PLC and Norfund through KNI India AS. The asset has annual revenue exceeding ₹97 crore, according to the disclosed transaction information. Its commissioning materially increased IndiGrid’s operational storage capacity from 40 MWh to 400 MWh.
Storage assets support grid operations
Standalone battery systems can store electricity and discharge it when required by the network. KBPL’s stated uses include managing peak demand, supporting ancillary services and stabilising the distribution-level grid. GBPL is intended to strengthen grid resilience and support the energy transition in Gujarat. These functions are particularly relevant as renewable generation rises and system operators require resources that can respond to changing supply and demand conditions. IndiGrid’s reported performance indicates that both facilities operated above their specified availability and efficiency levels during the quarter. The data does not provide separate dispatch volumes or utilisation details.
Rajasthan project remains under development
IndiGrid also has a 250 MW/500 MWh standalone BESS project in Rajasthan under development. NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited awarded the project in November 2024 through a tariff-based competitive bidding process. The battery energy storage service agreement was signed in December 2024 for 12 years from commercial operation. The project is being developed on a build-own-operate basis. IndiGrid was declared the lowest bidder in the reverse auction process. The project has an estimated capital expenditure of ₹750 crore and was stated to be planned for construction over 18 months.
Why the FY27 metrics matter
The FY27 first-quarter data gives a measurable view of operational performance in IndiGrid’s newly commissioned storage assets. The portfolio’s 98.39% availability is above the 95% contracted minimum, while 88.44% round-trip efficiency exceeds the 85% requirement. These results are relevant to the service obligations under the two 12-year agreements. The Gujarat asset also contributes annual revenue exceeding ₹97 crore based on the acquisition disclosure. IndiGrid’s next operational storage expansion is expected to depend on progress at the Rajasthan project, for which a 12-year service agreement has already been signed.
