OCCL Limited reported 115% year-on-year growth in revenue from operations to Rs 257.04 crore in Q2 FY27, with management attributing higher Insoluble Sulphur volumes and realisations to reduced Chinese imports, global supply constraints from China and precautionary inventory stocking. What drove OCCL's Q2 Insoluble Sulphur sales growth?
OCCL said higher Insoluble Sulphur sales volume and realisations drove its Q2 FY27 performance, lifting revenue from operations to Rs 257.04 crore from Rs 119.64 crore in Q2 FY26. Management said improved demand and higher raw-material costs contributed to the increase in realisations during the quarter ended September 30, 2026.
Domestic demand benefited from reduced Chinese imports after the imposition of provisional anti-absorption duties, according to management. Customers also built precautionary inventory amid geopolitical uncertainties, a mechanism OCCL identified alongside the 115% year-on-year revenue increase rather than as a separately quantified source of domestic sales.
In international markets, management cited limited sulphur availability in China, shipping disruptions and the Huatai plant closure during Q2 FY27. OCCL said these constraints strengthened global demand, but did not disclose Insoluble Sulphur volume, export revenue, country-level sales or the duration of the Huatai closure.
How much did OCCL's earnings increase in Q2 and H1 FY27?
OCCL's profit before tax rose 226% year on year to Rs 37.69 crore in Q2 FY27 and 206% to Rs 91.51 crore in H1 FY27. Revenue from operations increased 115% in the quarter to Rs 257.04 crore, while H1 FY27 revenue from operations rose 96% to Rs 476.71 crore from Rs 242.74 crore in H1 FY26.
Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) increased 139% in Q2 FY27 and 138% in H1 FY27. The Q2 EBITDA margin rose 192 basis points to 18.81%, while the H1 margin expanded 414 basis points to 23.48%; a basis point is one-hundredth of a percentage point. OCCL said total income includes other income, while these margins are calculated on revenue from operations.
Profit after tax rose 220% to Rs 27.86 crore in Q2 FY27 from Rs 8.69 crore a year earlier. For April to September 2026, profit after tax was Rs 68.11 crore, up 212% from Rs 21.83 crore in H1 FY26, and the profit-after-tax margin increased 530 basis points to 14.29%.
Why was OCCL's Q1 FY27 profit higher than Q2 FY27?
Management said Q1 FY27 profit was higher than Q2 FY27 mainly because Q1 included an inventory valuation gain. OCCL did not disclose the value of that gain or give a standalone Q1 profit figure in its presentation, so the effect on the sequential change in Q2 FY27 earnings cannot be measured from the announcement.
The year-on-year comparison was different: Q2 FY27 profit before tax was Rs 37.69 crore against Rs 11.56 crore in Q2 FY26, while revenue from operations reached Rs 257.04 crore from Rs 119.64 crore. Management's inventory-valuation comment therefore addresses the comparison between Q1 and Q2 FY27, not the 115% year-on-year revenue increase.
H1 FY27 results incorporated both quarters, with EBITDA of Rs 111.94 crore and profit before tax of Rs 91.51 crore, compared with Rs 46.94 crore and Rs 29.90 crore respectively in H1 FY26. OCCL did not provide a profit, revenue, volume or margin target for the second half of FY27.

How will OCCL manage costs and expand its market presence?
OCCL said it intends to pass through raw-material cost increases in a timely way to protect contribution margin per metric tonne. Management linked Q2 FY27's higher realisations to higher raw-material costs, while reporting an EBITDA margin of 18.81%, up from 16.89% in Q2 FY26.
For H1 FY27, the EBITDA margin was 23.48%, compared with 19.34% in H1 FY26. Management said its objective is to preserve contribution margin per metric tonne and turn demand growth into sustainable operating profitability, but it did not disclose a price-revision formula, a timing commitment or a target EBITDA margin.
The company said it will pursue opportunities to expand domestic market share while retaining its presence in key export markets. OCCL manufactures Insoluble Sulphur for tyre and rubber applications at Dharuhera in Haryana and Mundra in Gujarat, and also produces sulphuric acid and oleums, but did not disclose capacity, utilisation, customer contracts or market-share targets.
Working-capital movements were substantial in the April to September 2026 period. Net cash outflow from operating activities was Rs 40.6783 crore in H1 FY27, compared with net cash inflow of Rs 12.6407 crore in H1 FY26, as inventories rose by Rs 72.8612 crore and trade and other receivables rose by Rs 68.4794 crore.
The board declared an interim dividend of Rs 2 per equity share of face value Rs 2 for FY 2026-27, amounting to a total payout of Rs 9.9901 crore. The board approved the unaudited results for the period ended September 30, 2026 on November 6, 2026.
Conclusion
OCCL's Q2 FY27 growth coincided with specific conditions identified by management: reduced Chinese imports in India after provisional duties, precautionary customer stocking, and global supply constraints related to China, shipping and the Huatai plant closure. These factors accompanied revenue from operations of Rs 257.04 crore and profit before tax of Rs 37.69 crore, compared with Rs 119.64 crore and Rs 11.56 crore respectively a year earlier.
The next issue is whether OCCL can pass on raw-material cost changes while preserving contribution margin per metric tonne and advancing its plan to expand domestic market share while maintaining key exports. Management has not disclosed volume, capacity, market-share or margin targets for the remainder of FY27, while the H1 FY27 operating cash outflow of Rs 40.6783 crore leaves inventory and receivable movements relevant to subsequent results.
