Why did Span Divergent's cash balance fall?
Span Divergent's cash balance fell because operating and investing cash outflows exceeded financing inflows in the six months ended September 30, 2026. Operating activities used Rs 7.2666 crore and investing activities used Rs 1.5934 crore, while financing activities generated Rs 3.2268 crore. The resulting net decline was Rs 5.6332 crore from the Rs 6.4768 crore opening cash balance.
The group reported a pre-tax loss of Rs 1.908 crore for the half year, compared with a Rs 30.94 lakh pre-tax loss in the corresponding six months of 2025. After depreciation, finance costs, investment gains and working-capital movements, cash generated from operations was negative Rs 7.357 crore. The cash-flow statement then reported Rs 9.04 lakh of income taxes paid, producing net operating cash outflow of Rs 7.2666 crore.
The six-month operating outflow is not directly comparable with the full-year operating inflow of Rs 21.63 lakh for the year ended March 31, 2026 because the reporting periods differ. Still, the balance sheet and cash-flow statement both show that cash fell sharply by September 30, while total current assets increased modestly to Rs 19.2752 crore from Rs 19.1158 crore at March 31.

Current investments declined by Rs 24.49 lakh to Rs 4.9094 crore, while cash fell by Rs 5.6332 crore, limiting the increase in total current assets.
The inventory movement followed a March 28, 2026 preferential issue that raised Rs 5.7936 crore. Span Divergent allocated Rs 5 crore to procurement of raw cashew nut inventory described as two to three months of upfront inventory, Rs 50 lakh to restart and ramp-up costs, and Rs 29.36 lakh to selective refurbishment for productivity and quality.
