On November 4, 2026, SPML Infra Limited won a ₹186.41 crore contract from Power Grid Corporation of India Limited for extensions at the 765/400/220 kilovolt (kV) Ramgarh Pooling Station and Bhadla-III Substation. The package specifies 20 bay additions across the two western Rajasthan sites, including two 765/400 kV, 1,500 megavolt-amperes (MVA) transformer bays at Ramgarh.

What does SPML Infra's ₹186.41 crore order cover?
SPML Infra’s ₹186.41 crore award covers the 765 kV air-insulated substation (AIS) Extension Substation Package SS-155T for POWERGRID. The November 4 disclosure identifies extensions at the 765/400/220 kV Ramgarh Pooling Station and 765/400/220 kV Bhadla-III Substation.
The package forms part of transmission-system augmentation that SPML Infra said involves Bhadla-III, Ramgarh Pooling Station and Kanpur. However, the announced physical scope specifies bay additions only at Ramgarh and Bhadla-III, with no separate work list, contract-value allocation or timeline disclosed for Kanpur.
The award brings SPML Infra into the 765 kV extra-high-voltage (EHV) transmission segment. Management said the POWERGRID contract marked an expansion of SPML Infra’s EHV capabilities, but the announcement did not disclose the number of previous 765 kV projects undertaken by the company.
How will SPML Infra expand Ramgarh Pooling Station?
SPML Infra will add two 765/400 kV, 1,500 MVA interconnecting transformer (ICT) bays and two 400/220 kV, 500 MVA ICT bays at Ramgarh Pooling Station. The two 1,500 MVA ICT bays are the highest-capacity specified equipment additions in the ₹186.41 crore package.
The Ramgarh scope also includes one 400 kV line bay and two 220 kV line bays. The disclosed extension therefore totals seven bays, comprising four ICT bays and three line bays.
Ramgarh is distinct from Bhadla-III in the disclosed equipment mix because it includes the two 765/400 kV ICT bays. Its remaining additions, comprising two 400/220 kV ICT bays, one 400 kV line bay and two 220 kV line bays, connect to the lower voltage levels specified in the contract.
What will change at Bhadla-III Substation?
SPML Infra will augment Bhadla-III Substation with five 400/220 kV, 500 MVA ICT bays, three 400 kV line bays and five 220 kV line bays. The listed work totals 13 added bays, compared with seven at Ramgarh Pooling Station.
The comparison shows that Bhadla-III has six more disclosed bay additions than Ramgarh, while its transformer-bay work is entirely at 400/220 kV. Ramgarh, in contrast, includes two 765/400 kV ICT bays rated at 1,500 MVA each, whereas Bhadla-III has five ICT bays rated at 500 MVA each.
SPML Infra said Bhadla and Ramgarh play an important role in transmitting electricity generated in western Rajasthan, which it described as a major solar and renewable-energy hub. The company said the extensions will help connect more renewable energy to the national grid, without quantifying additional transmission capacity or a commissioning date.

Why does the POWERGRID award matter to SPML Infra's portfolio?
The POWERGRID award adds a defined 765 kV EHV substation package to SPML Infra’s power transmission and distribution activities. SPML Infra said it has executed substations, transmission networks and rural-electrification projects, connecting more than 20,000 villages with electricity.
SPML Infra reported experience across more than 700 projects in the power, water, environment and technology sectors. Its corporate description also states that its water-infrastructure activities have contributed to supplying clean drinking water to more than 50 million people, placing the ₹186.41 crore transmission package within a broader infrastructure portfolio.
Managing Director Abhinandan Sethi described the order as an important milestone in SPML Infra’s expansion into 765 kV EHV transmission. He said the company is strengthening its capabilities in advanced transmission networks and large-scale energy storage as part of its approach to India’s energy transition.
SPML Infra also disclosed plans to expand its Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) capabilities through proprietary technology development, domestic manufacturing, system integration and large-scale project execution. BESS is a stated strategic area and is not identified as a component of the SS-155T substation package.
Conclusion
The ₹186.41 crore POWERGRID contract gives SPML Infra a defined role in extending two 765/400/220 kV substations serving western Rajasthan’s renewable-energy corridor. Bhadla-III accounts for 13 of the 20 disclosed bay additions, while Ramgarh includes the package’s two highest-rated transformer bays at 1,500 MVA each.
The next item to watch is execution of SS-155T, as SPML Infra did not disclose a completion date, revenue-recognition schedule or site-wise division of the ₹186.41 crore value. Separately, SPML Infra’s stated plan is to develop BESS capabilities spanning technology, manufacturing, integration and large-scale project execution.
