How did TCPL Packaging perform in Q2 FY27?
TCPL Packaging reported consolidated total income of Rs 564.6 crore in Q2 FY27, compared with Rs 469.6 crore in Q2 FY26, a 20.2% year-on-year increase. Revenue from operations rose faster, by 22.2%, to Rs 552.5 crore, while other operating income increased 2.0% to Rs 8.5 crore. Other income declined 60.4% to Rs 3.6 crore, meaning the expansion in total income was principally supported by operating revenue rather than this non-operating line.
Consolidated EBITDA including other income rose by Rs 21.6 crore to Rs 100.1 crore from Rs 78.5 crore a year earlier. Its 27.5% increase exceeded total-income growth of 20.2%, taking the margin from 16.7% to 17.7%. A basis point is one-hundredth of a percentage point, so the reported 101-basis-point movement represents roughly a one-percentage-point rise in quarterly margin. Management said the threshold of Rs 500 crore in quarterly total income and Rs 100 crore in EBITDA was crossed for the first time.
What drove TCPL Packaging's margin expansion despite cost pressures?
TCPL Packaging attributed the Q2 FY27 margin improvement to pricing actions, operating leverage, operational efficiencies and cost-optimisation measures. Management also said raw-material and logistics costs remained higher. Consolidated raw-material expense increased 19.1% to Rs 322.9 crore, employee-benefit expense rose 18.4% to Rs 54.7 crore, and other expenses advanced 18.0% to Rs 86.9 crore. Each of those cost lines grew more slowly than revenue from operations, which increased 22.2%.
The comparison is more pronounced in the half year. In H1 FY27, consolidated total income rose 18.2% to Rs 1,059.5 crore and EBITDA increased 22.5% to Rs 188.0 crore, lifting the margin by 63 basis points to 17.7% from 17.1%. Raw-material expense grew 18.2% to Rs 600.0 crore, matching total-income growth, while employee costs rose 16.5% to Rs 107.2 crore and other expenses rose 14.6% to Rs 164.3 crore. The presentation does not separate the financial contribution of pricing from efficiency measures.
Management said demand was healthy in both paperboard and flexible packaging, alongside efforts to strengthen customer relationships and expand product offerings. That segment-level statement is directional: the presentation does not disclose separate Q2 FY27 revenue, EBITDA or margin figures for paperboard and flexible packaging. As a result, the available evidence supports a consolidated cost and revenue comparison, but does not quantify which packaging segment supplied the larger share of the Rs 95.0 crore increase in quarterly total income.

Why did TCPL Packaging profit grow faster than EBITDA?
TCPL Packaging's consolidated profit after tax, or PAT, rose 57.7% to Rs 45.3 crore in Q2 FY27 from Rs 28.7 crore in Q2 FY26, faster than EBITDA growth of 27.5%. The PAT margin increased to 8.1% from 6.2%, a 184-basis-point change. Profit before tax, or PBT, grew 66.0% to Rs 61.8 crore, while no exceptional items were reported in either quarterly period.
Lower finance costs were a major stated movement below EBITDA. Consolidated finance costs fell 22.6% to Rs 15.2 crore from Rs 19.7 crore, a reduction of Rs 4.5 crore, even as depreciation and amortisation rose 6.8% to Rs 23.1 crore. Tax expense almost doubled to Rs 16.5 crore from Rs 8.5 crore, yet PBT growth exceeded that tax increase and supported the PAT result. Cash profit, described as Cash PAT in the highlights, increased 44.2% to Rs 84.9 crore.
For H1 FY27, the same pattern continued but with a larger finance-cost reduction. Finance costs declined 40.4% to Rs 27.5 crore from Rs 46.1 crore, while EBITDA rose 22.5% to Rs 188.0 crore and PAT rose 67.2% to Rs 85.3 crore. Diluted earnings per share, or EPS, increased 67.1% to Rs 93.75 from Rs 56.09. The presentation reports net debt of Rs 578.5 crore and cash and investments of Rs 12.8 crore as of September 30, 2026, but does not explain the specific causes of the reduction in finance costs.
How did TCPL Packaging's standalone results compare with consolidated results?
TCPL Packaging's standalone Q2 FY27 total income was Rs 544.1 crore, up 21.7% from Rs 447.2 crore, and standalone EBITDA was Rs 98.4 crore, up 28.5% from Rs 76.5 crore. The standalone EBITDA margin reached 18.1%, compared with the consolidated 17.7%. The Rs 20.5 crore difference between standalone and consolidated total income indicates the group-level results included additional consolidated activity, although the presentation does not identify the entity or entities responsible.
Standalone PAT rose 59.1% to Rs 45.1 crore in Q2 FY27, nearly equal to consolidated PAT of Rs 45.3 crore. Standalone finance costs declined 22.9% to Rs 14.7 crore, and standalone depreciation and amortisation rose 7.0% to Rs 22.1 crore. In H1 FY27, standalone EBITDA margin was 17.9%, versus 17.7% consolidated, while standalone PAT was Rs 82.7 crore against Rs 85.3 crore on a consolidated basis.
The new subsidiary was incorporated late in the reported half year. TCPL Packaging incorporated TCPL Energy Materials Limited on September 24, 2026 as a wholly owned subsidiary with initial authorised share capital of Rs 10 crore. It is intended to manufacture lithium-ion battery separator films for electric vehicles, grid-scale energy storage and other applications. Management said the venture remains at an initial stage focused on manufacturing infrastructure and capability building, rather than disclosing revenue, capital expenditure or a production timetable.
Conclusion
TCPL Packaging's Q2 FY27 figures show income growth of 20.2% translated into faster EBITDA growth of 27.5% and PAT growth of 57.7%. Pricing, operating leverage and cost measures were management's stated reasons for the 101-basis-point EBITDA-margin increase, while a Rs 4.5 crore decline in finance costs contributed to the faster growth in profit after tax.
The next disclosed item to watch is execution of TCPL Energy Materials Limited, incorporated on September 24, 2026 with Rs 10 crore authorised capital. Management has identified lithium-ion separator-film manufacturing as a long-term growth platform, but has not provided a commissioning date, investment amount, capacity target or financial contribution forecast; ongoing raw-material and logistics costs also remain an unresolved operating factor.
