Thyrocare Technologies Limited added five laboratories in the second quarter (Q2) of FY27, taking its network to 49 labs and reducing average report turnaround time to 3.5 hours. Management attributed the faster reporting to regional processing capacity, improved logistics and tighter laboratory processes, while 96% of samples were processed in NABL-accredited labs.

How many laboratories did Thyrocare add in Q2 FY27?
Thyrocare added five laboratories in Q2 FY27: four regional processing labs in Asansol, Nashik, Madurai and Jabalpur, and one hybrid lab partnership in Jamshedpur. The additions brought the network to 48 labs in India and one in Tanzania, or 49 in total.
The 49-lab footprint compares with 17 labs in FY21, an increase of 32 labs. Management said the four new regional processing sites bring capacity closer to fast-growing Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets and reduce the distance samples travel before testing. Across most of India, management said a Thyrocare lab is now within about 150 kilometres, with Mumbai receiving only specialised tests.
Thyrocare spent Rs 30 crore on capital expenditure in the first half (H1) of FY27, covering eight new labs, including five in Q2 and three in Q1, as well as capacity for 27% growth in test volumes. Management said it expects a similar capital expenditure level in the remainder of FY27, but did not identify further lab sites or set a network target.
How did Thyrocare reduce report turnaround time to 3.5 hours?
Thyrocare reduced average report turnaround time to 3.5 hours in Q2 FY27 through better logistics, tighter lab processes and new laboratory openings. Management reported this as the quarterly average and did not provide an equivalent figure for an earlier period.
The operating change is centred on processing more routine samples nearer to collection points rather than sending them to Mumbai. The new sites in Asansol, Nashik, Madurai and Jabalpur are intended to shorten transport routes in their surrounding regions. Thyrocare also said it continues to invest in digital capabilities across booking, logistics, lab operations and reporting.
Collection capacity is another part of the faster-reporting model. Thyrocare reported more than 2,100 phlebotomists, including network partners, and said 99% of home-collection visits were on time. It also added about 1,180 franchisees in Q2 FY27, taking its active franchisee base to 12,911, which increases the need for nearby testing capacity as sample collection expands.
What quality measures accompanied Thyrocare's laboratory expansion?
Thyrocare processed 96% of samples in National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL)-accredited labs during Q2 FY27. Management also said every lab owned by Thyrocare is NABL accredited and that the network is supported by more than 108 pathologists with MD qualifications.
Quality coverage was reported alongside the 3.5-hour turnaround time rather than instead of it. Thyrocare said its test menu has grown nearly fivefold to more than 1,420 tests. That menu includes routine and preventive diagnostics as well as allergy and genomics offerings, which management said are being supported by physician education and in-house capability expansion.
Complaints fell to 2.9 per million tests in Q2 FY27, Thyrocare's lowest reported level, according to management. It attributed the decline to strengthened complaint channels, shorter resolution times and more proactive communication with patients. Management described the level as within Six Sigma standards but did not disclose a prior-quarter complaints figure.
Thyrocare held 45 doctor meets at its laboratories during Q2 FY27, engaging more than 100 doctors, and said continuing medical education and roundtable meetings reached nearly 300 specialist doctors. Management presented these activities as relevant to specialty diagnostics, where it said doctor-led adoption is important.

Which businesses are scaling with Thyrocare's network?
Thyrocare's pathology business grew 27% year on year in Q2 FY27, while its franchisee business grew 27% and partnership business grew 28%. Consolidated revenue rose 25% year on year to Rs 271 crore, compared with stand-alone revenue of Rs 256 crore, which increased 26.7%.
Test volumes increased 27% year on year, while consolidated gross margin improved by more than 190 basis points to 74.2%. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation margin was 33%, and profit after tax before exceptions rose 26% year on year to Rs 60 crore. The call did not isolate the revenue, margin or profit contribution of the five labs opened in Q2 FY27.
Specialty diagnostics contribute around 4% of pathology revenue, according to management. Thyrocare has introduced allergy testing and genomics, including non-invasive prenatal testing, and said it is progressively bringing specialty work in-house to reduce reliance on reference labs. Management said its approach is to introduce clinically relevant offerings, invest in physician engagement and scale adoption over time.
Thyrocare also launched a pregnancy test kit in Q2 FY27 at a maximum retail price of 60 rupees, with a stated 99% accuracy when used as directed. Each kit includes a coupon for a Beta human chorionic gonadotropin blood test at 399 rupees rather than 800 rupees. Management said the product had reached more than 10,000 pharmacies through the API Holdings group distribution network, including Ascent and PharmEasy.
What should readers watch after Thyrocare's Q2 FY27 lab additions?
Thyrocare's Q2 FY27 disclosures show regional laboratories, collection capacity and quality controls expanding together. The measurable outcomes were a 3.5-hour average turnaround time, 96% of samples processed in NABL-accredited labs and 2.9 complaints per million tests, alongside 27% growth in pathology revenue and test volumes.
Management plans similar capital expenditure in the balance of FY27 after spending Rs 30 crore in H1 FY27, although it has not disclosed new locations or a lab-count target. Specialty diagnostics remain around 4% of pathology revenue, and management said it intends to expand adoption through physician education and in-house testing capacity. Future disclosures will show whether further capacity additions maintain turnaround times and increase specialty revenue contribution.
Conclusion
The five Q2 FY27 additions increased Thyrocare's network to 49 labs, compared with 17 in FY21, while the company reported a 3.5-hour average report turnaround time. The combination of regional processing, 2,100-plus phlebotomists and NABL-accredited lab processing links network expansion to service and quality measures rather than collection-point growth alone.
Management expects capital expenditure in the remainder of FY27 to be similar to the Rs 30 crore invested in H1 FY27, including spending on lab expansion and capacity. It has not disclosed the number or locations of future labs, while its allergy and genomics business, now around 4% of pathology revenue, remains an unresolved measure of how the expanded network supports specialty testing.
