When is Muhurat trading in 2026?

Quick Answer: Muhurat trading in 2026 is on Sunday, 8 November, the Diwali Laxmi Pujan holiday, per NSE's 2026 trading holiday circular. NSE says the session timings will be notified later through a circular, and none had appeared on its circulars page as of 1 October 2026.
Muhurat trading is a special live trading session that NSE holds on Diwali, on a day its own calendar lists as a market holiday. For 2026 the date is fixed. The clock is not, so this page separates what NSE has published from what is still pending.
Past sessions show why the time matters. NSE's circulars put the normal market at 18:15 to 19:15 hrs in 2023, 18:00 to 19:00 hrs in 2024 and 13:45 to 14:45 hrs in 2025. The evening slot many investors in India remember is not a fixed rule.
Which NSE circular sets the 2026 Muhurat date?
NSE circular NSE/CMTR/71775 of 12 December 2025 sets Sunday, 8 November 2026 as the Muhurat trading date for 2026. That trading holidays circular for calendar year 2026 lists 8 November as Diwali Laxmi Pujan, and its footnote says Muhurat trading will be conducted that day and that timings "shall be notified subsequently".
A Sunday date puts the session outside the usual Monday to Friday week. Monday 9 November 2026, the next weekday, is not in NSE's 2026 holiday list, while Tuesday 10 November 2026 is a trading holiday for Diwali-Balipratipada in NSE's capital market segment.
Which segments trade in the Muhurat session in India in 2026?
In India, NSE has fixed Sunday, 8 November 2026 for Muhurat trading in its equity and derivatives segments, but had not notified timings as of 1 October 2026. Every figure on this page comes from NSE and NSE Clearing notices.
NSE's live holidays page marks 8 November with a Muhurat asterisk for the capital market, futures and options, currency derivatives, commodity derivatives and securities lending segments, among others. The mutual fund segment's 8 November entry carries none. A note on the same page says the timings will be notified through a circular.
That circular is the pending piece. It may not be the only one. For the 2025 session, NSE's circulars list shows separate Muhurat notices, issued from 22 September to 16 October 2025, for the equity market, futures and options, currency derivatives, commodity derivatives, securities lending, the debt segment's request-for-quote platform and NSE Clearing's settlement timings, among others.
What were the Muhurat trading timings in past years?
Muhurat trading timings on NSE changed in each of the last three sessions: the normal market ran 13:45 to 14:45 hrs in 2025, 18:00 to 19:00 hrs in 2024 and 18:15 to 19:15 hrs in 2023. The table sets out all three.
NSE Muhurat sessions, capital market segment, from NSE circulars (as of 18 September 2026)
| Session date | Pre-open | Normal market | Closing session | NSE circular |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sun, 8 Nov 2026 | Not yet notified | Not yet notified | Not yet notified | NSE/CMTR/71775, 12 Dec 2025 (date only) |
| Tue, 21 Oct 2025 | 13:30 to 13:45 hrs | 13:45 to 14:45 hrs | 14:55 to 15:05 hrs | NSE/CMTR/70319, 22 Sep 2025 |
| Fri, 1 Nov 2024 | 17:45 to 18:00 hrs | 18:00 to 19:00 hrs | 19:10 to 19:20 hrs | NSE/CMTR/64628, 19 Oct 2024 |
| Sun, 12 Nov 2023 | 18:00 to 18:08 hrs | 18:15 to 19:15 hrs | 19:25 to 19:35 hrs | NSE/CMTR/59124, 27 Oct 2023 |
In each of those three years, the normal market lasted one hour. NSE schedules several smaller windows around it. The 2025 capital market circular set a block deal session from 13:15 to 13:30 hrs and a call auction for illiquid stocks from 13:50 to 14:35 hrs. Trade modification stayed open until 15:15 hrs.
Structurally, the Muhurat hour uses the same session types as a regular trading day, from pre-open to the closing session. Our Nifty and Sensex wrap on an expiry day shows how a routine close can move the indices.
What is Muhurat trading?
Muhurat trading is a one-hour special session NSE holds on Diwali, a date its holiday list otherwise marks closed (NSE circulars, 2023 to 2025). Muhurat means an auspicious time. The session is tied to Diwali Laxmi Pujan, the holiday name that appears on NSE's 2026 calendar.
It is not a mock or symbolic session. NSE's capital market circulars for 2023, 2024 and 2025 each describe it as "a special live trading session" and state that all trades executed in it "shall result in settlement obligations".
Prices in the session are ordinary market prices, so the research inputs are ordinary too. Multibagg's screener filters listed stocks by fundamental and technical measures such as P/E, ROE, market cap, volume and price action, and none of that changes for a festive session.
One session's trade is also a single data point in a long record, and our review of how the Sensex performed over five years shows how a multi-year window can look different from any one day inside it.
Do normal settlement rules apply to Muhurat trades?
Normal settlement rules apply to Muhurat trades: NSE Clearing settled 21 October 2025 Muhurat trades on its T+1 cycle, on 23 October 2025 (circular NCL/CMPT/70409, 25 September 2025). Pay-in was at 16:30 hrs and pay-out at 21:00 hrs that day.
Earlier sessions settled on the following Monday, with pay-in at 14:00 hrs and pay-out at 16:30 hrs both times: Friday, 1 November 2024 trades on 4 November 2024, and Sunday, 12 November 2023 trades on 13 November 2023. The 2023 session is the closest precedent for 2026. It also fell on a Sunday.
NSE Clearing also gives the session its own line in the client margin reporting schedule. In 2025, it set a reporting cut-off of 29 October 2025 for trades dated 21 October 2025.
For 2026, NSE Clearing's settlement holiday list of 22 December 2025 records 8 November as Diwali Amavasya (Laxmi Pujan). It does not say how Sunday trades will settle. No Muhurat settlement schedule had been published as of 18 September 2026.
No separate fee schedule for the session appears in the Muhurat circulars. Our explainer on how NSE trading charges and taxes are split covers the standard items on a contract note.
What is the Muhurat trading time in 2026?
The Muhurat trading time for 2026 had not been notified as of 1 October 2026, and NSE says it will announce the timings through a circular. Its circulars list for 1 August to 1 October 2026 carries no Muhurat notice. Until that circular appears, any 2026 time quoted is not an exchange figure.
Our count of NSE's circular dates for the last three sessions shows the timing notice arrived 13 to 29 days before the session:
- 2025: circular dated 22 September 2025 for the 21 October 2025 session (29 days)
- 2024: circular dated 19 October 2024 for the 1 November 2024 session (13 days)
- 2023: circular dated 27 October 2023 for the 12 November 2023 session (16 days)
Whether 2026 will follow that pattern, NSE has not said. To look up a company's share price history, fundamentals and filings around past sessions, open its page in Multibagg's stocks section.
