What did Fortis acquire in Bengaluru?
Fortis acquired Suguna Hospital, a 110-bed facility in Rajajinagar, Bengaluru, through its wholly owned subsidiary International Hospitals Limited. The transaction covers the hospital’s business operations, building and land, giving Fortis ownership of the operating facility and associated real estate rather than only a service-management role. Fortis said the site has potential to expand to about 150 beds, or roughly 40 beds above its acquired capacity.
The Bengaluru acquisition takes Fortis’s operational beds in the region to approximately 1,000, according to managing director and chief executive officer Dr Ashutosh Raghuvanshi. That regional total places the 110-bed addition within Fortis’s existing Bengaluru cluster rather than as an entry into a new state. Across India, Fortis operated 37 healthcare facilities, including joint ventures and operations-and-management facilities, in 12 states as of the November 5, 2026 announcement.
What is Fortis’s agreement for the Delhi hospital?
Fortis entered definitive agreements through its wholly owned subsidiary Fortis Hospotel Limited to provide healthcare services at a 400-plus-bed super-specialty hospital in Ashok Vihar, New Delhi. The counterparty is Seth Sunder Lal Jain Charitable Eye Hospital, and the arrangement is a long-term healthcare-services agreement. Unlike the Suguna transaction, the disclosure does not describe an acquisition of the Delhi hospital’s land, building or business operations.
The Ashok Vihar facility occupies about 3.1 acres and is expected to commence operations in 3-4 years, subject to necessary approvals. Fortis said beds will be operationalised in phases, so the disclosed 400-plus-bed scale is not presented as capacity that will come on stream at once. The timing and phased rollout distinguish the Delhi agreement from the already acquired 110-bed Bengaluru facility.
How does the expansion fit Fortis’s operating performance?
Fortis’s hospital-business revenue rose 18.6% to Rs 2,340 crore in the second quarter of financial year 2027 (Q2 FY27), from Rs 1,974 crore in Q2 FY26. For the first half of financial year 2027 (H1 FY27), hospital revenue increased 18.8% to Rs 4,527 crore from Rs 3,812 crore in H1 FY26. Fortis attributed quarterly growth to an approximately 7% increase in average revenue per inpatient patient and an approximately 9% rise in occupied beds compared with Q2 FY26.
Hospital profit after tax was Rs 284 crore in Q2 FY27, down 1.1% from Rs 287 crore in Q2 FY26, while the profit-after-tax margin declined to 12.1% from 14.5%. The comparable periods included different exceptional gains: Rs 3 crore in Q2 FY27 and Rs 24 crore in Q2 FY26, primarily related to reversal of impairment in an associate company. Occupancy was 72% in Q2 FY27 versus 71% a year earlier, while average revenue per inpatient patient increased to Rs 2.10 lakh from Rs 1.96 lakh.
Fortis’s consolidated revenue rose 17.3% to Rs 2,735 crore in Q2 FY27, while consolidated profit after tax fell 2.5% to Rs 320 crore and its margin fell to 11.7% from 14.1%. Its diagnostics business generated gross revenue of Rs 448 crore, up 12.2%, and profit after tax of Rs 68 crore, up 15.8%. Hospital revenue expanded faster than diagnostics revenue in the quarter, while diagnostics reported a 15.2% profit-after-tax margin against the hospital business’s 12.1%.

Where else is Fortis seeking growth?
Fortis is evaluating strategic acquisitions and greenfield opportunities, including built-to-suit sale or lease models, in Mumbai, Kolkata and Hyderabad. These are evaluation plans rather than announced acquisitions or projects. Management said the initiatives are intended to create network synergies and strengthen Fortis’s position in selected micro-markets, alongside the completed Bengaluru purchase and planned Delhi services operation.
Fortis is also evaluating expansion opportunities in selected attractive and underserved Tier 2 markets in central India and near its key clusters. The company gave no bed count, capital commitment, counterparty or opening timetable for those potential opportunities. Its disclosed network had more than 6,300 operational beds, including operations-and-management beds, and more than 400 diagnostics laboratories at the time of the Q2 FY27 release.
The diagnostics business provides a second expansion channel through customer touch points rather than hospital beds. Agilus, Fortis’s diagnostics business, had 4,551 customer touch points as of September 30, 2026, and conducted about 11.39 million tests in Q2 FY27 compared with about 10.62 million in Q2 FY26. Its business-to-consumer revenue share increased to 54% from 52%, while preventive and specialised portfolio revenues grew 28% and 14%, respectively, during the quarter.
Conclusion
The disclosed actions extend Fortis’s hospital footprint in two established clusters through different structures: ownership of a 110-bed Bengaluru hospital with scope for about 150 beds, and a services agreement for a 400-plus-bed Delhi facility. They accompany Q2 FY27 hospital revenue growth of 18.6%, while reported hospital profit after tax was Rs 284 crore and included a smaller exceptional gain than in the prior-year quarter.
The next disclosed milestone is the proposed Ashok Vihar hospital’s commencement in 3-4 years, subject to approvals and phased bed operationalisation. Investors can also watch for definitive announcements from Fortis’s stated evaluations of acquisitions, greenfield projects and built-to-suit models in Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad and selected Tier 2 markets.
