Why did Hindustan Housing report an operating cash outflow in H1?
Hindustan Housing reported the Rs 1.66 crore operating cash outflow after generating an operating cash profit of Rs 64.10 lakh before working-capital changes in H1 ended September 30, 2026. In the corresponding half of 2025, it reported an operating cash outflow of Rs 13.24 lakh after operating cash profit before working-capital changes of Rs 55.82 lakh.
Profit before tax was Rs 1.87 crore in H1 2026, but the cash-flow statement adjusted for investment-related and non-cash items before arriving at operating cash profit. The largest deductions were Rs 62.34 lakh of fair-value gains on investments through profit and loss, Rs 62.03 lakh of dividend income and Rs 5.66 lakh of gains on sales of mutual-fund units.
Depreciation of Rs 7.40 lakh and unwinding of interest of Rs 1.01 lakh were added back in the operating cash-flow calculation. After these adjustments, the Rs 64.10 lakh operating cash profit was insufficient to offset the Rs 1.99 crore net use of cash from working-capital movements.
Trade receivables used Rs 1.10 crore of cash and other assets used Rs 1.28 crore in the half year. These outflows were partly offset by a Rs 44.13 lakh inflow from other liabilities and provisions and a Rs 64,000 inflow from trade payables, resulting in Rs 1.35 crore of cash used from operations before direct taxes.
Direct taxes paid were Rs 31.38 lakh in H1 2026, compared with Rs 23.79 lakh in H1 2025. The tax payment took the final operating cash outflow to Rs 1.66 crore, versus the prior-year outflow of Rs 13.24 lakh.
How did Hindustan Housing's profit differ from its operating cash flow?
Hindustan Housing earned Rs 1.44 crore of profit after tax in H1 2026, up from Rs 1.39 crore a year earlier, while its operating cash result deteriorated from a Rs 13.24 lakh outflow to a Rs 1.66 crore outflow. The difference arose because the cash-flow statement separately adjusts accounting gains and tracks cash tied up in working-capital balances.
Revenue from operations rose to Rs 3.07 crore in H1 2026 from Rs 2.62 crore in H1 2025. Total revenue increased to Rs 4.38 crore from Rs 3.94 crore, while total expenses rose to Rs 2.51 crore from Rs 2.14 crore, leaving profit before tax higher by Rs 8.05 lakh.
Hindustan Housing is primarily engaged in a single segment of providing and rendering administrative and allied services. Employee-benefit expense increased to Rs 1.28 crore from Rs 1.10 crore, while other expenses increased to Rs 96.74 lakh from Rs 79.47 lakh; finance costs declined to Rs 1.01 lakh from Rs 1.19 lakh.
Other comprehensive income, net of tax, was Rs 7.02 crore in H1 2026, compared with Rs 1.14 crore in H1 2025. Total comprehensive income was therefore Rs 8.50 crore, but this accounting measure was separate from the Rs 16.93 lakh increase in cash and cash equivalents during the half year.

Which balance-sheet movements were connected to the cash use?
Hindustan Housing's trade receivables rose to Rs 1.15 crore at September 30, 2026 from Rs 4.56 lakh at March 31, 2026. That increase broadly corresponds with the Rs 1.10 crore cash outflow recorded under trade receivables in the H1 cash-flow statement.
Other financial assets increased to Rs 1.63 crore at September 30 from Rs 34.75 lakh at the preceding March year-end. Loans rose to Rs 13.50 lakh from Rs 2.70 lakh, while the cash-flow statement recorded Rs 96,000 used under loans and other financial assets and Rs 1.28 crore used under other assets.
Other current liabilities rose to Rs 47.17 lakh from Rs 2.68 lakh over the same period. Trade payables increased to Rs 8.87 lakh from Rs 8.23 lakh, while the cash-flow statement showed Rs 44.13 lakh of cash generated from other liabilities and provisions and Rs 64,000 from trade payables.
Current investments declined to Rs 19.16 crore at September 30 from Rs 20.10 crore at March 31. Cash and cash equivalents increased to Rs 34.03 lakh from Rs 17.10 lakh, showing that investing inflows exceeded the operating cash deficit during the six months.
How did investing activity increase Hindustan Housing's cash balance?
Hindustan Housing generated Rs 1.83 crore from investing activities in H1 2026, which exceeded its Rs 1.66 crore operating cash outflow and produced a Rs 16.93 lakh net increase in cash and cash equivalents. The cash-flow statement reported no financing cash flow for either H1 2026 or H1 2025.
Sales of current investments generated Rs 2.77 crore in H1 2026, compared with Rs 1.69 crore in the previous corresponding half. Purchases of current investments were Rs 1.15 crore, down from Rs 1.95 crore, making purchases and sales of current investments a net source of cash in the latest half year.
Hindustan Housing spent Rs 31.30 lakh on property, plant and equipment and capital work-in-progress, compared with Rs 11.17 lakh in H1 2025. It also received Rs 52.03 lakh of dividend income and Rs 16,000 of interest income, against Rs 48.26 lakh and Rs 14,000, respectively, a year earlier.
Cash and cash equivalents closed H1 2026 at Rs 34.03 lakh, compared with Rs 11.56 lakh at the end of H1 2025. The latest closing balance reflected the Rs 17.10 lakh opening cash position at the start of the financial year and the Rs 16.93 lakh net increase reported for the half year.
Conclusion
Hindustan Housing's H1 2026 results show a divergence between reported profit and operating cash generation. Higher revenue and a Rs 1.44 crore profit after tax did not prevent a Rs 1.66 crore operating cash outflow because receivables and other assets absorbed more cash than the company generated before working-capital changes.
The next point to watch is whether trade receivables of Rs 1.15 crore and other financial assets of Rs 1.63 crore change after September 30, 2026. Movements in these balances were associated with the cash outflows reported for H1, while other current liabilities stood at Rs 47.17 lakh at the period end.
