How much revenue did the Labour Code add for Quess?
The new Labour Code added a one-time Rs 298 crore to Quess’s H1 FY27 revenue, according to its financial highlights. The note accompanies General Staffing revenue, which was Rs 7,419 crore in H1 FY27, compared with Rs 6,439 crore in H1 FY26. Quess reported 15% year-on-year growth for General Staffing before separating the one-time increase.
The Rs 298 crore was 4.0% of reported General Staffing revenue in H1 FY27 and 30.4% of that segment’s Rs 980 crore year-on-year reported increase. Deducting the stated item gives calculated General Staffing revenue of Rs 7,121 crore. Against H1 FY26 revenue of Rs 6,439 crore, that is a calculated increase of Rs 682 crore, or 10.6%, rather than the reported 15% growth.
What did the Labour Code disclosure change in reported growth?
The disclosure reduces calculated total revenue growth to 10.6% from Quess’s reported 15% for H1 FY27. Total revenue increased by Rs 1,095 crore to Rs 8,578 crore from Rs 7,483 crore in H1 FY26. Subtracting the disclosed Rs 298 crore from the H1 FY27 total leaves Rs 8,280 crore, a calculated increase of Rs 797 crore over the prior-year half.
The presentation identifies Rs 298 crore as a “one-time increase” due to implementation of the new Labour Code. It does not provide a separate restated revenue measure or identify how much of the remaining calculated 10.6% growth came from client additions, deployment volumes, pricing or another operating driver. The adjustment therefore changes the reported comparison but does not establish a company-reported organic-growth measure.
Quess made a similar disclosure for Q2 FY27, when General Staffing revenue of Rs 3,823 crore included a one-time Rs 120 crore increase related to the new Labour Code. The H1 FY27 disclosed amount was Rs 178 crore higher than the Q2 FY27 amount. Total Q2 FY27 revenue was Rs 4,396 crore, up 15% year on year and 5% quarter on quarter, while the Labour Code note appeared with General Staffing revenue.

Which Quess businesses drove H1 FY27 revenue growth?
General Staffing was Quess’s largest segment and the segment associated with the disclosed one-time revenue effect, reporting H1 FY27 revenue of Rs 7,419 crore. Professional Staffing generated Rs 506 crore, up 8% from Rs 468 crore in H1 FY26, while Overseas Business generated Rs 651 crore, up 13% from Rs 575 crore. Neither of those segment disclosures carries an equivalent Labour Code revenue note.
General Staffing’s reported Rs 980 crore increase exceeded the Rs 38 crore rise in Professional Staffing and the Rs 76 crore rise in Overseas Business. After deducting the stated Rs 298 crore from General Staffing, its calculated Rs 682 crore increase remains the largest contributor to the total calculated revenue increase of Rs 797 crore. The comparison shows General Staffing remained the main revenue-growth contributor, although its reported rate included the implementation-related increase.
Quess reported total segment operating margin, labelled Op. Margin in the presentation, of Rs 204 crore for H1 FY27, up 16% from Rs 175 crore in H1 FY26. General Staffing contributed Rs 108 crore, compared with Rs 92 crore a year earlier; Professional Staffing contributed Rs 55 crore versus Rs 52 crore; and Overseas Business contributed Rs 43 crore versus Rs 36 crore. The presentation does not allocate the Rs 298 crore revenue increase to segment operating margin or consolidated profit.
How did Quess profit and workforce compare with revenue?
Quess reported adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation, or adjusted EBITDA, of Rs 178 crore in H1 FY27, up 22% from Rs 146 crore in H1 FY26. Adjusted EBITDA margin was 2.1%, compared with 2.0% a year earlier, an increase of 12 basis points. The adjusted measure excludes Rs 8 crore of non-cash employee stock option plan expense for H1 FY27.
Profit after tax, or PAT, rose 53% to Rs 157 crore in H1 FY27 from Rs 103 crore in H1 FY26, while PAT margin increased to 1.83% from 1.37%. Diluted earnings per share rose to Rs 10.4 from Rs 6.9. These profit measures grew faster than reported revenue, but Quess did not disclose the profit effect of the one-time Labour Code revenue increase, so its contribution to margin movement cannot be calculated from the presentation.
Headcount was 504,000 at H1 FY27, a 4% increase from 483,000 in H1 FY26. Reported revenue expanded faster than headcount, at 15% versus 4%; after removing the disclosed one-time revenue item, calculated revenue growth of 10.6% still exceeded workforce growth. This compares reported employee numbers with calculated revenue excluding the stated item, rather than presenting a productivity measure supplied by Quess.
Conclusion
Quess reported a one-time Rs 298 crore revenue increase from implementation of the new Labour Code in H1 FY27, with the disclosure attached to General Staffing. The amount represented 27.2% of the Rs 1,095 crore increase in total reported H1 revenue. On a simple subtraction basis, both total revenue and General Staffing revenue increased 10.6%, compared with reported growth rates of 15%.
The unresolved issue is the effect of the Labour Code-related revenue on profitability, because Quess did not allocate the Rs 298 crore item to segment operating margin, adjusted EBITDA or PAT. The next comparable disclosure is also relevant: Q2 FY27 included Rs 120 crore of one-time General Staffing revenue, while H1 FY27 included Rs 298 crore, and adjusted EBITDA margin stood at 2.1% for the half year.
