RedTape Limited raised Q2 FY27 profit after tax by 27.3% year on year to Rs 36 crore despite a 3.5% fall in revenue to Rs 474 crore, as gross margin expanded 752 basis points to 45.4%. Management attributed part of the sales decline to Big Billion Days moving from September to October.

Why did RedTape revenue decline in Q2 FY27?
RedTape revenue declined because Big Billion Days moved from September in the prior year to October in the current year, shifting associated sales from Q2 into Q3, according to management. Revenue from operations was Rs 474 crore in Q2 FY27, compared with Rs 491 crore in Q2 FY26, a decline of 3.5%.
The quarter was also lower sequentially, with revenue down 1.3% from Rs 480 crore in Q1 FY27. For H1 FY27, revenue was unchanged year on year at Rs 955 crore, matching H1 FY26. Management described Q2 as seasonally softer and said the festive and winter periods support the seasonally stronger second half.
The presentation does not quantify the sales shifted into Q3 or give a full-year revenue target. Its FY27 outlook instead says RedTape will pursue disciplined growth, operating efficiency, profitable e-commerce growth and protection of its consumer value proposition amid near-term demand volatility.
How did RedTape profit increase despite lower sales?
RedTape increased Q2 FY27 profit through higher gross profit and wider operating margins. Gross profit rose 15.7% to Rs 216 crore from Rs 186 crore, while gross margin increased to 45.4% from 37.9%, a gain of 752 basis points. One basis point equals one-hundredth of a percentage point.
Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation, or EBITDA, rose 8.2% to Rs 89 crore from Rs 83 crore. EBITDA margin rose 204 basis points to 18.9% from 16.8%; the presentation notes that EBITDA includes other income. Profit after tax, or PAT, reached Rs 36 crore versus Rs 28 crore, and PAT margin rose to 7.5% from 5.7%.
Sequentially, margins and profit were lower than in Q1 FY27, when gross margin was 47.5%, EBITDA margin was 21.0% and PAT was Rs 47 crore. The comparison shows that the year-on-year margin expansion continued in Q2, but results were below the immediately preceding quarter as revenue fell to Rs 474 crore.
Which RedTape channels drove Q2 FY27 sales?
RedTape retail revenue grew 15% year on year to Rs 308 crore in Q2 FY27, making it the only channel to report growth. E-commerce revenue declined 21% to Rs 146 crore from Rs 185 crore, while other-channel revenue fell 47% to Rs 20 crore from Rs 38 crore.
E-commerce nevertheless represented about 31% of Q2 FY27 revenue, up from about 22% in Q1 FY27 and back near the presentation's historical level of about 30%. RedTape.com sales were Rs 31.9 crore, up 712% year on year. RedTape also reported that it was the number-two footwear brand on Flipkart and Myntra.
For H1 FY27, retail revenue increased 16% to Rs 664 crore from Rs 573 crore. E-commerce declined 23% to Rs 250 crore from Rs 323 crore, while other revenue dropped 29% to Rs 41 crore from Rs 58 crore, leaving total first-half revenue unchanged at Rs 955 crore.

What products and brands made up RedTape Q2 FY27 revenue?
RedTape footwear was the largest Q2 FY27 category, contributing 63% of revenue, or Rs 300.46 crore. Apparel accounted for 32%, or Rs 150.09 crore, while accessories accounted for 5%, or Rs 23.75 crore. The presentation notes that category totals may not exactly equal reported revenue because of rounding.
The RedTape brand represented 95% of Q2 FY27 revenue. Ozark accounted for 3%, Mode + Bond Street for 1%, and other brands for 1%. This brand mix places the principal brand at the centre of reported quarterly sales, alongside smaller labels on the same operating platform.
RedTape reported Q2 FY27 sales volume of 5.23 million units. It added 49 exclusive brand outlets and five shop-in-shops during the quarter, while gross retail-space addition was 86,000 square feet. Net store additions for H1 FY27 were 87.
What changed in RedTape balance sheet and store network?
RedTape total assets increased to Rs 24.26 crore at September 30, 2026, from Rs 23.04 crore at March 31, 2026. Inventories rose to Rs 12.90 crore from Rs 11.50 crore, while trade receivables declined to Rs 1.17 crore from Rs 2.09 crore.

Current borrowings increased to Rs 4.59 crore from Rs 3.71 crore, non-current borrowings declined to Rs 5 lakh from Rs 14 lakh, and lease liabilities under Indian Accounting Standard 116 increased to Rs 3.17 crore from Rs 2.94 crore.
RedTape had 756 stores across 369 cities, covering more than 20 states and Union Territories, according to the presentation. The network included 299 exclusive mega showrooms, 305 exclusive showrooms, three sports outlets, 12 factory shops and 137 shop-in-shops. RedTape says approximately two-thirds of its store network is franchise-managed under a fixed-margin model while it retains inventory ownership and goods and services tax billing.
Conclusion
RedTape's Q2 FY27 figures show that a calendar-related revenue decline did not prevent year-on-year growth in gross profit, EBITDA and PAT. Revenue fell by Rs 17 crore from Q2 FY26, while PAT increased by Rs 8 crore and gross margin rose 7.52 percentage points, supported by retail-channel growth and higher profitability metrics.
The next reported test is whether sales associated with the October Big Billion Days timing, alongside festive and winter demand, support the seasonally stronger second half identified by management. RedTape's disclosed FY27 plan focuses on store expansion, operating efficiency and e-commerce profitability, but the presentation does not provide a full-year revenue, profit or store-addition target.
