How did Shahlon Silk generate Rs 15.93 crore of operating cash?
Shahlon Silk generated Rs 15.93 crore of net cash from operating activities in the half year ended 30 September 2026, compared with an operating cash outflow of Rs 21.53 lakh in the year ended 31 March 2026. The half-year cash inflow followed Rs 20.33 crore of cash generated from operations, less Rs 3.17 crore of interest paid on operations and Rs 1.23 crore of current tax.
Operating profit before working-capital charges was Rs 10.47 crore, starting with profit before tax and extraordinary items of Rs 1.76 crore. The reconciliation added Rs 2.10 crore of depreciation and Rs 7.90 crore of interest paid, while deducting Rs 1.27 crore for the provision-for-gratuity adjustment and Rs 4.31 lakh for proportionate capital subsidy on plant machinery.
Working-capital movements accounted for much of the change. Trade and other receivables contributed Rs 3.45 crore, inventories used Rs 7.03 crore, and trade payables and provisions contributed Rs 13.44 crore. These movements took cash generated from operations to Rs 20.33 crore before the interest and tax payments.
The comparison with the year ended 31 March 2026 shows a different working-capital pattern. That year recorded operating profit before working-capital charges of Rs 25.38 crore but cash generated from operations of Rs 7.11 crore, as inventories used Rs 30.22 crore and trade payables and provisions used Rs 44.32 lakh. In the September 2026 half year, payables and provisions instead provided Rs 13.44 crore of cash.
Why did Shahlon Silk's cash balance fall despite positive operating cash flow?
Shahlon Silk's cash balance fell because financing outflows of Rs 14.25 crore and investing outflows of Rs 1.80 crore were greater than its Rs 15.93 crore operating inflow. The resulting net decrease in cash and cash equivalents was Rs 11.51 lakh in the half year ended 30 September 2026, compared with a Rs 24.20 lakh net increase in the year ended 31 March 2026.
Opening cash and cash equivalents were Rs 2.31 crore and closing cash and cash equivalents were Rs 2.20 crore. The operating surplus was therefore deployed through payments classified under investing and financing activities during the six-month period rather than retained in the closing cash balance.
Investing cash flow also changed direction from the previous year. Shahlon Silk reported net cash from investing activities of Rs 19.06 crore in 2025-26, supported by Rs 19.22 crore of proceeds from fixed-asset sales. In the six months to September 2026, it instead reported net cash used in investing activities of Rs 1.80 crore.
What were Shahlon Silk's investing cash movements?
Shahlon Silk used Rs 1.80 crore in investing activities in the half year ended 30 September 2026, principally through Rs 2.68 crore of fixed-asset purchases. Fixed-asset sales generated Rs 34.20 lakh and long-term advances provided Rs 54.45 lakh, partly offsetting the asset purchases.
The investing section also recorded Rs 73,000 used for purchases of investments. In the year ended 31 March 2026, the statement showed Rs 38.39 lakh under fixed-asset purchases and Rs 19.22 crore from fixed-asset sales, producing the overall investing cash inflow of Rs 19.06 crore.
The statement of assets and liabilities recorded property, plant and equipment of Rs 44.96 crore at 30 September 2026, down from Rs 46.29 crore at 31 March 2026. Capital work-in-progress rose to Rs 3.68 crore from Rs 2.09 crore over the same dates, while the cash-flow statement separately reported Rs 2.68 crore of fixed-asset purchases.

Shahlon Silk used Rs 14.25 crore in financing activities during the half year ended 30 September 2026, led by an Rs 8.40 crore reduction in short-term loans and Rs 4.74 crore of interest paid on term loans. It also reported Rs 48.68 lakh of net repayment of finance, lease and loan obligations and Rs 62.51 lakh of dividends paid.
The Rs 4.74 crore interest payment on term loans was separate from the Rs 3.17 crore interest paid on operations. Together, the two interest-payment lines totalled Rs 7.90 crore, matching the interest-paid adjustment included in the reconciliation from profit before tax to operating profit before working-capital charges.
Financing activities were also cash-negative in the year ended 31 March 2026, when Shahlon Silk used Rs 18.61 crore. The composition was different: the previous-year statement showed an Rs 27.34 crore reduction in short-term loans, Rs 9.51 crore of interest paid on term loans and Rs 18.73 crore of net finance, lease and loan cash inflows.
Current borrowings stood at Rs 23.49 crore at 30 September 2026, compared with Rs 28.10 crore at 31 March 2026. That movement is consistent in direction with the Rs 8.40 crore short-term-loan outflow in the half-year cash-flow statement, although the filing does not provide a direct reconciliation between the two figures.
How did cash flow compare with Shahlon Silk's profit and segment results?
Shahlon Silk reported net profit of Rs 1.13 crore for the half year ended 30 September 2026, down from Rs 2.26 crore in the half year ended 30 September 2025. Operating cash exceeded reported profit because the reconciliation included Rs 2.10 crore of depreciation and working-capital movements, particularly the Rs 13.44 crore contribution from trade payables and provisions.
Revenue from operations fell to Rs 73.59 crore in the September 2026 half year from Rs 126.28 crore a year earlier. Textile segment revenue declined to Rs 55.48 crore from Rs 108.42 crore, while real estate and construction services segment revenue increased to Rs 18.59 crore from Rs 18.16 crore.
Textile segment profit before tax and interest was Rs 1.49 crore in the half year ended 30 September 2026, compared with Rs 2.62 crore a year earlier. Real estate and construction services reported Rs 8.17 crore of segment profit before tax and interest, down from Rs 9.77 crore, while finance cost declined to Rs 7.90 crore from Rs 10.17 crore.
Conclusion
Shahlon Silk's half-year cash-flow statement shows that the Rs 15.93 crore operating inflow depended materially on working-capital movements, especially the Rs 13.44 crore contribution from trade payables and provisions. Financing payments of Rs 14.25 crore and investing outflows of Rs 1.80 crore then left closing cash and cash equivalents at Rs 2.20 crore.
The next results will show whether the contribution from trade payables and provisions continues or reverses, and whether inventory, which used Rs 7.03 crore in the September 2026 half year, changes direction. The filing also leaves current borrowings of Rs 23.49 crore and total disclosed interest payments of Rs 7.90 crore as items to track in subsequent cash-flow statements.
