Shilpa has entered a partnership with Orion Corporation to co-develop and exclusively supply a nivolumab biosimilar in Europe, while Orion commercializes it; the USD 12 billion-market program has entered human trials. The agreement adds a defined European route to Shilpa’s seven-asset biosimilar portfolio.

What does Shilpa’s nivolumab agreement with Orion cover?
Shilpa’s agreement with Orion Corporation covers co-development and exclusive European supply of a nivolumab biosimilar, with Orion responsible for commercialization in Europe. Shilpa says it is entitled to development and regulatory milestone payments and long-term supply revenue from the oncology product.
Nivolumab has entered human trials and is listed against an estimated USD 12 billion global market in Shilpa’s portfolio presentation. Shilpa expects pembrolizumab, another oncology biosimilar, to enter human trials in the second half of fiscal year 2027 (2HFY27), placing nivolumab ahead on the disclosed clinical timeline.
The presentation does not state the value of the milestone payments, the supply price, a European launch date or the countries covered by the agreement. Shilpa separately has an Orion arrangement for recombinant human albumin for therapeutic use in Europe, under which Orion has exclusive distribution, marketing and sales rights; that product is described as a novel biologic rather than a biosimilar.
How is Shilpa’s biosimilar portfolio positioned?
Shilpa lists seven biosimilar assets across immunotherapy, ophthalmology, oncology and respiratory therapy, and says their average product market size exceeds USD 10 billion. The portfolio comprises adalimumab, aflibercept, nivolumab, pembrolizumab, daratumumab, dupilumab and SBPL 1, an antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) biosimilar.
Shilpa says it added four new biosimilar programs, although it does not identify the programs or their addition dates. Four assets are in oncology, namely nivolumab, pembrolizumab, daratumumab and SBPL 1, while adalimumab is classified under immunotherapy, aflibercept under ophthalmology and dupilumab under respiratory therapy.
Pembrolizumab has the largest estimated market at USD 35 billion, followed by dupilumab at USD 25 billion and adalimumab at USD 23 billion. The smallest listed opportunity is SBPL 1 at about USD 3 billion, showing that the portfolio includes assets with substantially different market sizes despite Shilpa’s stated average of more than USD 10 billion.

Which biosimilar milestones has Shilpa set for FY27?
Shilpa is targeting an India launch of aflibercept in FY27 and says it has out-licensed the ophthalmology biosimilar to partners in India and Russia. It also says discussions are active in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region for aflibercept, which has an estimated USD 6 billion global market.
For nivolumab, the disclosed milestone is entry into human trials, not a regulatory filing or launch date. Pembrolizumab is expected to enter human trials in 2HFY27 and addresses the portfolio’s largest stated market, at about USD 35 billion, but Shilpa does not disclose a commercialization partner for that program.
Shilpa expects its first ADC biosimilar, SBPL 1, to enter human studies in the first half of FY28. The company also says process development for a second ADC has started, creating a stated sequence in which nivolumab is already in human trials, pembrolizumab is expected to follow in 2HFY27 and the first ADC is expected to enter studies in 1HFY28.
How do Shilpa’s biosimilars compare by development stage?
Adalimumab is the only Shilpa asset shown in the approved or commercial category, while aflibercept and nivolumab are shown in the Phase I/III category. All seven programs are marked as development completed in the portfolio graphic, but the later-stage columns differentiate their disclosed progression.
Pembrolizumab is shown at the pre-clinical stage in the graphic, consistent with Shilpa’s expectation of human-trial entry in 2HFY27. Daratumumab, dupilumab and SBPL 1 are shown only as development completed, and the presentation provides no filing date, clinical-study date or commercialization arrangement for daratumumab or dupilumab.
The development-stage ranking differs from the market-size ranking. Adalimumab, with an estimated USD 23 billion market, is already approved or commercial, whereas pembrolizumab, with the USD 35 billion market estimate, remains pre-clinical in the graphic. Nivolumab combines a USD 12 billion stated market, entry into human trials and a named European commercialization structure through Orion.
Conclusion
Shilpa’s biosimilar strategy combines one approved or commercial asset, adalimumab, with six additional programs at clinical or earlier disclosed stages. The Orion agreement gives nivolumab a specific European co-development, supply and commercialization structure, while aflibercept has an FY27 India launch target and pembrolizumab carries the portfolio’s highest stated market estimate of USD 35 billion.
The disclosed milestones to watch are the aflibercept India launch target in FY27, pembrolizumab’s expected human-trial entry in 2HFY27 and SBPL 1’s planned human-study entry in 1HFY28. Shilpa has not disclosed nivolumab’s launch timing, milestone values or supply economics, leaving those matters unresolved within the Orion partnership.
