How many applications did Capri Global assess with AI in Q2 FY '27?
Capri Global assessed more than 1.08 lakh applications through its Bureau Rule Engine in Q2 FY '27, up 34% from Q1 FY '27. The engine performs automated policy validation at origination and sits within Sentinel, the company's proprietary underwriting intelligence platform.
Sentinel combines rule-based automation, behavioural analytics and portfolio-informed risk intelligence. Management said its underwriting architecture brings together decision artificial intelligence (AI), vision AI, generative AI and emerging agentic AI capabilities to interpret financial information, validate documents, assess borrower behaviour and identify risk exceptions for credit managers.
The company also processed more than 21,000 bank-statement assessments through intelligent analytical workflows during Q2 FY '27. Management described the model as AI-assisted rather than fully autonomous, with real-time insights and recommendations intended to augment human judgement in credit decisions.
Management said the intended results are faster turnaround, more consistent underwriting, improved portfolio selection and higher productivity. Capri Global reported credit costs of 0.8% for Q2 FY '27 and said it expects to maintain them in a range of 0.6% to 0.9% on a sustainable basis.
How is Capri Global using digital channels for payments and lending?
Capri Global received 91.2% of inbound payments digitally across its micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) and housing businesses in September, compared with 90.7% in June. The 0.5-percentage-point increase provides an operating measure of digital payment adoption in those lending segments.
The Capri loan application facilitated more than 17 lakh transactions aggregating approximately Rs 594 crore in Q2 FY '27, with transaction value up 47% quarter on quarter. Monthly transaction value rose to Rs 219 crore in September from Rs 106 crore in January, while the application had more than 3 lakh transacting customers.
Management said the application is becoming a self-servicing transaction ecosystem. Its digital rollout has occurred alongside physical expansion, with the branch network reaching 1,609 locations after a net addition of 176 branches in Q2 FY '27.
Capri Global reported a cost-to-income ratio of 41% in Q2 FY '27, down from 44% in Q1 FY '27 and 49% in Q2 FY '26. Management attributed the improvement to technology investment, maturing branch networks, rising productivity and operating leverage rather than to technology alone.

How is Capri Global applying AI to collections?
Capri Global said technology-enabled collections in its MSME and housing businesses reached 34% in September, up from 32% in June. Its collections architecture combines Pegasus, a proprietary collections execution platform, with Kronos, a collection-intelligence model intended to support predictive and behaviourally segmented interventions.
The company is progressively extending speech AI and conversational intelligence to its gold-loan portfolio of approximately 8 lakh customers. Initial uses include delinquency management, repayment reminders and collections, while document intelligence is intended to structure unorganised information and vision intelligence to strengthen visual verification.
The collections programme is being deployed while gold loans drove the principal asset-quality movement in Q2 FY '27. Consolidated gross Stage-3 assets rose 22 basis points quarter on quarter to 1.2%, while net Stage-3 assets were about 0.8%, also 22 basis points higher sequentially.
Management attributed the movement mainly to repayment friction from shorter-tenure gold-loan products introduced in Q1 FY '27 after revised Reserve Bank of India gold-loan guidelines took effect in April 2026. Capri Global said it discontinued those products and returned to standard longer-tenure structures, but reported impairment costs of Rs 79 crore in Q2 FY '27, largely due to written-off construction-finance accounts and management overlays.
When will Capri Global make millisecond credit decisions?
Capri Global has not given a launch date for millisecond decisions. Management said it is developing an in-house decisioning framework that targets a reduction in processing latency from seconds to milliseconds for eligible automated decisions, meaning the target does not apply to every application.
The next technology phase combines agentic AI, intelligent workflow orchestration and ultra-low-latency decisioning, according to management. Capri Global is also preparing specialised AI agents for its digital customer channels to provide multilingual, round-the-clock assistance and progressively automate defined servicing workflows.
The disclosed Q2 FY '27 volumes provide the operational base for that plan, including more than 1.08 lakh application assessments and approximately Rs 594 crore of application transaction value. Management said the focus is to convert these tools into measured improvements in transactions, processing productivity, decision consistency, economics and customer experience.
Capri Global placed the automation programme within its FY '28 growth plan. Management said it is confident of achieving assets under management of Rs 65,000 crore by FY '28, with sustainable return on average equity of about 20% to 21% and return on average assets of 4.2% to 4.7%; these are management targets rather than reported results.
Conclusion
Capri Global's Q2 FY '27 disclosures show that its in-house technology programme has operating scale in underwriting, payments and collections. The Bureau Rule Engine assessed more than 1.08 lakh applications, the loan application processed more than 17 lakh transactions, and technology-enabled collections in MSME and housing increased by 2 percentage points between June and September.
The next items to watch are progress toward management's seconds-to-milliseconds target for eligible automated decisions and the rollout of specialised multilingual servicing agents. Management's FY '28 plan also sets measurable benchmarks, including Rs 65,000 crore of assets under management and a credit-cost range of 0.6% to 0.9%.
