What did Effwa complete at Rourkela Steel Plant?
Effwa completed the Rourkela Steel Plant (SAIL) TS-II project on time in H1 FY27, making it the company's first assignment with a contract value exceeding ₹200 crore. The presentation also describes TS-II as the largest-capacity Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) project at Rourkela Steel Plant completed by Effwa.
The company defines ZLD as a process that recovers water with no liquid discharge from a site. Management says the on-time TS-II completion demonstrates Effwa's ability to undertake large-scale, complex work within committed timelines, although the presentation does not disclose the project's capacity, commissioning date, revenue recognised or contract margin.
Effwa's H1 FY27 list of projects handed over or completed also names Vedanta Ltd, Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Afcons Infrastructures Ltd in Ivory Coast, Afcons Infrastructures Ltd in Tanzania, and TSML (Tata Steel). These completions were reported alongside present orders in hand of more than ₹675 crore and a projects-under-pipeline figure of more than ₹2,400 crore.
The disclosed JSW Steel contract threshold is more than ₹150 crore above the threshold for the completed TS-II assignment. Effwa separately identifies JSW Steel, Dolvi and JSW Steel, Dhar as high-value ongoing projects, but does not state which location relates to the project valued at more than ₹350 crore.
What does the JSW Steel project mean for Effwa?
Effwa is executing a JSW Steel project worth more than ₹350 crore, which management expects to further strengthen revenue growth in coming periods. The project is the largest individual contract value disclosed in the management outlook, compared with the more-than-₹200-crore value of the completed Rourkela Steel Plant assignment.
Effwa said it strengthened Design and Engineering, Projects, Safety, Logistics, Human Resources, and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) functions through talent additions and access to a wider talent pool. The company says these steps enhance execution capacity and enable simultaneous delivery of multiple projects, relevant to its more-than-₹675-crore H1 FY27 order book.
Effwa has implemented updated engineering software and initiated enterprise-wide ERP implementation and operational-excellence initiatives. Management says ERP is intended to provide real-time project monitoring, improve resource utilisation, tighten cost controls and improve execution efficiency, but the presentation gives no completion date or quantified savings target for the programme.
The H1 FY27 revenue base was split between public-sector undertakings, which contributed 56.0%, and private-sector customers, which contributed 44.0%. Effwa's client list includes SAIL, Tata Steel, Indian Oil Corporation Limited, JSW, Vedanta, NMDC Steel, Larsen & Toubro, AMNS, Reliance, Tata Projects and NSPCL.

How did Effwa's H1 FY27 financial performance change?
Effwa's revenue from operations increased 44.8% year on year to ₹130.649 crore in H1 FY27 from ₹90.209 crore in H1 FY26. The Chairperson and Managing Director attributed the increase to accelerated project execution, timely completion of key milestones and demand for higher-value ZLD solutions.
Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) rose 37.1% to ₹21.154 crore, while profit after tax increased 48.8% to ₹15.097 crore. EBITDA margin declined 90 basis points to 16.2% from 17.1%, whereas profit-after-tax margin increased 40 basis points to 11.6% from 11.2%.
ZLD accounted for 97.6% of service-wise revenue in H1 FY27, compared with 1.6% for effluent treatment plants with recycling and 0.7% for O&M. The concentration follows an increase in ZLD revenue to ₹127.564 crore from ₹81.730 crore a year earlier, while O&M revenue rose to ₹2.141 crore from ₹1.338 crore.
Management said Effwa advanced funds to suppliers to secure anticipated second-half revenue, reducing trade payables and temporarily pressuring operating cash flow in H1 FY27. It also said pending customer compliance approvals and software validations deferred recognition of completed deliveries beyond the reporting date and temporarily lifted inventory; management said those approvals were subsequently received.
What are Effwa's next execution priorities?
Effwa's stated priorities are to scale O&M, implement ERP, progress its Zero Material Discharge (ZMD) technology and enter desalination, data-centre water treatment and compressed biogas projects. Management describes O&M as a stable, high-visibility revenue stream expected to increase with the installed base of projects.
Effwa has filed a patent application for ZMD, which it describes as an advancement beyond ZLD that converts residual salt waste into high-purity, commercially valuable products. The technology presentation targets completion of the patent process in FY27, but does not disclose ZMD revenue, a commercial order or a commissioned ZMD project.
The Chairperson and Managing Director said Effwa plans to establish a dedicated Innovation Centre within the next 12 to 14 months. Management also identifies high-purity water for data centres as a next focus area and lists desalination and compressed biogas as new business areas, rather than reported H1 FY27 revenue segments.
Conclusion
Effwa's on-time completion of the more-than-₹200-crore Rourkela Steel Plant TS-II assignment and its ongoing more-than-₹350-crore JSW Steel project mark a higher disclosed scale of project execution. The milestone coincided with H1 FY27 revenue of ₹130.649 crore, up 44.8% year on year, while ZLD represented 97.6% of service-wise revenue.
The next disclosed markers are execution progress on the JSW Steel project, conversion of the more-than-₹2,400-crore pipeline and the effect of ERP implementation on project monitoring and resource use. Management has also set a FY27 target for completion of the ZMD patent process and plans to make the Innovation Centre operational within 12 to 14 months.
