How did Global Surfaces' H1-FY27 operating performance change?
Global Surfaces returned to a positive EBITDA of Rs 9.6 crore in H1-FY27, compared with Rs 4.4 crore in H1-FY26, while its EBITDA margin rose 424 basis points to 7.66% from 3.42%. This occurred despite revenue from operations declining 2.6% to Rs 125.3 crore from Rs 128.6 crore. Total expenses fell 6.8% to Rs 115.7 crore, a larger reduction than the revenue decline, creating the improvement in operating profit.
The first-half result also marked a turnaround from FY26, when Global Surfaces reported negative EBITDA of Rs 11.3 crore and a negative 4.85% margin on revenue of Rs 233.2 crore. The H1-FY27 margin remained below FY24's 15.53%, when EBITDA was Rs 35 crore on Rs 225.3 crore of revenue. The comparison shows that cost reductions restored operating profitability in the half year, but not to the margin level reported two financial years earlier.
Why did Global Surfaces report a net loss despite positive EBITDA?
Global Surfaces reported a Rs 5.3 crore H1-FY27 PAT loss because Rs 9.2 crore of depreciation and amortisation and Rs 7.1 crore of finance costs exceeded its Rs 9.6 crore EBITDA, even after Rs 1.8 crore of other income. The result was a Rs 4.9 crore loss before tax, followed by a Rs 40 lakh tax charge. Its PAT margin consequently moved to negative 4.23% from negative 3.97% a year earlier, despite the operating-margin recovery.
The central non-operating change was other income, which fell 80.9% to Rs 1.8 crore from Rs 9.4 crore in H1-FY26. Management attributed the lower other income to reduced unrealised foreign-exchange gains, which declined to Rs 2.172 crore from Rs 8.104 crore. The company therefore had less income outside core operations to offset fixed depreciation and borrowing costs, explaining why a Rs 5.2 crore EBITDA increase did not produce a positive PAT outcome.
Depreciation and amortisation increased slightly from Rs 9.1 crore to Rs 9.2 crore year on year, while finance costs decreased 2.7% from Rs 7.3 crore to Rs 7.1 crore. Together, these fixed charges were Rs 16.3 crore, or Rs 6.7 crore more than H1 EBITDA. In FY26, Global Surfaces also recorded Rs 21.7 crore of other income, compared with Rs 1.8 crore in H1-FY27, underscoring the lower contribution now being made by this line item.
What does the second quarter show about the H1 recovery?
Global Surfaces' Q2-FY27 EBITDA was Rs 1.3 crore, substantially below Q1-FY27 EBITDA of Rs 8.3 crore, as revenue fell 8.4% sequentially to Rs 59.9 crore from Rs 65.4 crore. The Q2 EBITDA margin was 2.17%, compared with 12.69% in Q1. This means that most of the Rs 9.6 crore H1 EBITDA was generated in the first quarter rather than evenly across the half year.
Against Q2-FY26, however, the quarter improved from a Rs 3.6 crore EBITDA loss to a Rs 1.3 crore profit as revenue grew 10.7% from Rs 54.1 crore. Total expenses increased only 1.6% to Rs 58.6 crore, versus the revenue increase. The margin therefore moved from negative 6.65% to positive 2.17%, an 882-basis-point improvement year on year.
The quarterly profit outcome remained negative. Depreciation was Rs 4.7 crore and finance costs were Rs 3.5 crore in Q2-FY27, compared with EBITDA of Rs 1.3 crore; other income of Rs 1.5 crore was down from Rs 9.2 crore a year earlier. Global Surfaces consequently reported a Rs 5.4 crore loss before tax and a Rs 5.4 crore PAT loss, compared with a Rs 6 lakh PAT profit in Q1-FY27.

What do Global Surfaces' balance-sheet figures indicate?
Global Surfaces reported total equity of Rs 266.6 crore at H1-FY27, down from Rs 270.9 crore at FY26 and Rs 304 crore at FY25, while net worth was also Rs 266.6 crore. The H1 loss reduced other equity to Rs 224.1 crore from Rs 228.2 crore at FY26. Equity share capital remained Rs 42.4 crore across all three reported balance-sheet dates.
Borrowings were Rs 155.4 crore at H1-FY27, comprising Rs 43.3 crore of non-current borrowings and Rs 112.1 crore of current borrowings. That total was lower than Rs 163.3 crore at FY26, while the reported debt-to-equity ratio eased to 0.58 times from 0.60 times. Finance costs nevertheless remained Rs 7.1 crore in H1-FY27, making borrowing costs material relative to the half-year operating profit.
Working-capital lines shifted during the half year. Inventories declined to Rs 81.9 crore at H1-FY27 from Rs 87.4 crore at FY26, but trade receivables rose to Rs 113 crore from Rs 96.4 crore. Cash and cash equivalents decreased to Rs 1.5 crore from Rs 3.8 crore. Total current liabilities increased to Rs 181 crore from Rs 171 crore, including trade payables of Rs 50.8 crore.
What plans has Global Surfaces disclosed for its next phase?
Global Surfaces said it began domestic dispatches in India in October 2026 after expanding its marketing team, a plan intended to diversify customers and reduce dependence on export markets. Management also said it is pursuing additional domestic market opportunities in the United Arab Emirates using its existing manufacturing capability, infrastructure and regional presence. The presentation does not provide a revenue target or timetable for the contribution from either market initiative.
The board approved conversion of an additional Rs 110.44 crore of unsecured loans in Global Surfaces FZE into equity, with the amount reclassified as an advance towards equity subscription pending regulatory formalities. This is a disclosed capital restructuring step, rather than a completed equity conversion in the presentation. Management also cited sourcing optimisation and cost control amid raw-material price increases of 25% to 50% and nearly five-fold higher imported freight costs.
Conclusion
Global Surfaces' H1-FY27 figures show a clear operating recovery, with EBITDA rising to Rs 9.6 crore and margin reaching 7.66% even as revenue declined to Rs 125.3 crore. But the Rs 16.3 crore combined depreciation and finance charge, alongside the fall in other income to Rs 1.8 crore, left the company with a Rs 5.3 crore PAT loss. The contrast between a positive first-half EBITDA and negative bottom line is therefore explained by costs and income below the EBITDA line.
The next reported period will show whether the Q2 EBITDA slowdown to Rs 1.3 crore was temporary or persists after Q1's Rs 8.3 crore result. Investors can also watch for execution of domestic dispatches begun in October 2026, progress in UAE market diversification, and completion of the Rs 110.44 crore Global Surfaces FZE loan-to-equity conversion pending regulatory formalities.
