Why did Metal Coatings' Q2 profit fall despite higher revenue?
Metal Coatings' profit declined because expense growth exceeded the increase in income during the September 2026 quarter. Revenue from operations increased 2.7% to Rs 40.0351 crore from Rs 38.9846 crore in the quarter ended 30 September 2025, while total income rose to Rs 40.0837 crore from Rs 39.2121 crore. Total expenses, however, increased by Rs 1.2823 crore to Rs 39.5291 crore.
The faster increase in expenses reduced profit before tax by 42.5% to Rs 55.46 lakh from Rs 96.53 lakh. Other income also declined to Rs 4.86 lakh in the September 2026 quarter from Rs 22.75 lakh in the comparable 2025 quarter, limiting the benefit of higher operating revenue. Tax expense fell to Rs 16.14 lakh from Rs 26.86 lakh, but this was not enough to prevent the decline in net profit.
Which expenses increased for Metal Coatings in Q2?
Material consumption was Metal Coatings' largest disclosed cost and increased 7.8% year on year to Rs 31.9536 crore in the quarter ended 30 September 2026 from Rs 29.6521 crore. The Rs 2.3015 crore increase in material consumption was larger than the Rs 1.0505 crore rise in revenue from operations, although other cost movements also affected the total expense result.
Other expenses increased 32.0% to Rs 5.5031 crore from Rs 4.1682 crore, while employee benefits expense rose to Rs 2.1439 crore from Rs 1.9521 crore. These increases were partly offset by a change in inventories of negative Rs 20.78 lakh in the latest quarter, compared with a Rs 2.3215 crore inventory increase in the year-earlier quarter.
Finance costs declined to Rs 27,000 from Rs 1.08 lakh, and depreciation and amortisation expense fell to Rs 13.36 lakh from Rs 14.21 lakh. The company reported total expenses of Rs 39.5291 crore for the quarter, compared with Rs 38.2468 crore a year earlier, despite those lower finance and depreciation charges.
How did Metal Coatings perform against the preceding quarter?
Metal Coatings' revenue from operations rose sequentially, but profit declined in the September 2026 quarter. Operating revenue increased 4.7% from Rs 38.2451 crore in the quarter ended 30 June 2026 to Rs 40.0351 crore, while net profit fell 49.0% from Rs 77.14 lakh to Rs 39.32 lakh. Profit before tax decreased from Rs 1.0511 crore to Rs 55.46 lakh.
The sequential outcome reflected total expenses increasing by Rs 1.8859 crore to Rs 39.5291 crore from Rs 37.6432 crore. Material consumption rose by Rs 58.34 lakh and other expenses rose by Rs 1.2355 crore over the June 2026 quarter. Other income fell from Rs 44.92 lakh to Rs 4.86 lakh, reducing total income despite the increase in operating revenue.
Tax expense was Rs 16.14 lakh in the September quarter, compared with Rs 21.97 lakh in the preceding quarter, and included a deferred-tax credit of Rs 3.61 lakh. Basic and diluted earnings per share, which the company said were not annualised, were Rs 0.54 in the September quarter, versus Rs 1.05 in the June quarter and Rs 0.95 in the September 2025 quarter.

What do Metal Coatings' half-year results show?
For the half year ended 30 September 2026, Metal Coatings reported higher revenue but lower profit than in the corresponding prior-year half. Revenue from operations increased 5.8% to Rs 78.2802 crore from Rs 74.0117 crore, while total income rose to Rs 78.7780 crore from Rs 74.6401 crore. Total expenses increased 5.8% to Rs 77.1723 crore from Rs 72.9551 crore.
Profit before tax for the six-month period fell 4.7% to Rs 1.6057 crore from Rs 1.6850 crore. Net profit declined 10.9% to Rs 1.1646 crore from Rs 1.3077 crore, a smaller percentage fall than the 43.6% decline in the September quarter alone. The June 2026 quarter contributed Rs 77.14 lakh of net profit, compared with Rs 39.32 lakh in the September quarter.
Half-year tax expense increased to Rs 44.41 lakh from Rs 37.73 lakh. Total comprehensive income was Rs 1.2314 crore for the half year ended 30 September 2026, compared with Rs 1.2605 crore a year earlier, after other comprehensive income of Rs 6.68 lakh versus a negative Rs 4.72 lakh in the prior-year period.
What did Metal Coatings disclose on review, segment and dividend?
Metal Coatings said its board approved the unaudited quarter and half-year results on 5 November 2026 after review and recommendation by the audit committee. Mehra Goel & Co. LLP conducted a limited review and stated that nothing had come to its attention indicating that the results had not made the required disclosures or contained a material misstatement.
Metal Coatings said it operates in a single segment under Indian Accounting Standard 108, or Ind AS 108, and therefore did not provide segment disclosures. The filing consequently does not divide the Rs 40.0351 crore of September-quarter operating revenue or the Rs 39.5291 crore of expenses between products, geographies or business divisions.
The company also said the final dividend for financial year 2025-26 was paid during the quarter ended 30 September 2026. The dividend was Rs 1 per share, equivalent to 10% of the Rs 10 face value per equity share. The results filing did not set out a revenue target, cost-reduction programme or management forecast for later quarters.
Conclusion
Metal Coatings' September-quarter result shows that a 2.7% increase in operating revenue did not offset higher material consumption and other expenses, alongside lower other income. Net profit of Rs 39.32 lakh was below both Rs 69.67 lakh a year earlier and Rs 77.14 lakh in the preceding quarter, while first-half net profit was Rs 1.1646 crore.
The next disclosure will be relevant for whether operating revenue can grow faster than costs after total expenses reached Rs 39.5291 crore in the September quarter. Metal Coatings has not disclosed a forward revenue target, cost plan or business-segment breakdown, leaving the drivers of future profitability unresolved in the 5 November 2026 filing.
